Head Coach Andy Lambert

Andy Lambert is entering his ninth season as the head coach of the Sterling College Warrior football program and his sixteenth as a head coach. Lambert has an overall record of 76-79.

In his eight seasons at Sterling, Lambert has gone 46-36, leading the Warriors to top three finishes in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) during five of those seasons. While at Sterling, Lambert has won KCAC Coach of the Year in both 2004 and 2007.

Sterling College took a big drop in 2011 after seven consecutive years of finishing at or above 0.500 and went 1-10. Even though the Warriors struggled with results, the defensive was stellar. The Sterling defense finished in the top 25 in the NAIA in four statistical categories under Lambert. SC ranked fourth in defensive pass efficiency, fifth in pass defense per game, 12th in scoring defense per game, and 22nd in total defense per game. Mike Talton was named to the BSN All-America Team for his performance under Lambert.

Prior to coming to Sterling, Lambert served as head football coach at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. Lambert was the head coach at Trinity for seven years, but he was associated with TIU football as both a player and coach for fifteen years. During his last three seasons at Trinity, Lambert led the Trojans to an overall record of 22-11. During his final year at Trinity, Lambert’s squad finished with an overall record of 8-3 and 19th national ranking in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Trojans were also Mid-States West co-conference champions in 2003. Lambert was named Mid-States West “Coach of the Year” in both 2003 & 2001. A native of Smith Center, Kansas, Lambert played football for legendary high school coach Roger Barta at Smith Center High School. After graduating from Smith Center High School, Lambert played wide receiver at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas.

From Dodge City Community College, Lambert transferred to Trinity International University where he played receiver during his junior and senior seasons.

Andy and his wife Betsy have four daughters: Hannah, Lydia, Emma, and Sylvia.

Lambert holds a master’s degree in education from Chicago State University and a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Trinity International University. Probable Starters & 2-Deep Sterling College at Tabor College September 1, 2012

Gardner led the 2005 Bluejays to an 11-1 record with an NAIA national playoff victory and a No. 6 ranking in the final NAIA poll. And he led his 2004 squad to the NAIA playoffs and finished the season with a 9-2 record and a No. 14 final ranking.

Prior to becoming Tabor’s head coach, Gardner had been Defensive Coordinator under Coach Tim McCarty from 2001 to 2003. He helped the Bluejays earn their first-ever NAIA national playoff appearance in 2003 and a No. 15 national ranking. That same year, Gardner was named the AFCA NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year and the AFLAC Assistant Coach of the Year. The Tabor defense was ranked 11th in the final NAIA statistics in 2003, and was ranked second in 2002.

Prior to his first stint at Tabor, Gardner spent five years at Lindenwood (Mo.) University, where he served as Special Teams Coordinator, from 1996-1999, and Defensive Coordinator, in 2000. Gardner also was quarterbacks and receivers coach at Bethel College, from 1993-1996, and the Special Teams and Recruiting Coordinator at Hastings (Neb.) College from 1990-1993.

At , Gardner wasted little time in instituting a drastic turnaround, developing a winning attitude for a Pioneer football program that had struggled prior to his arrival. In four years as head coach at Malone, which plays in the rugged Mid-States Football Association (NAIA), Gardner directed the Pioneers to a 7-4 record in ‘06, an 8-4 tally in ‘07, a 6-4 finish in ‘08, and a 4-6 record in ‘09.

Entering the 2012 season Mike Gardner’s career record of 52-34 currently ranks him as the 18th winningest coach in the nation while his win percentage places him 13th among all active coaches in the NAIA. He currently is the most successful coach in Tabor history.
