Dr. John W. Poynor ’58 My kids (8th & 11th grade) both think they’ve died and gone to heaven. I don’t quite understand that because a lot of times they have so much work to do that there seems to be absolutely no way to do it.

Take the Lead.

Students can hear the word “responsibility” anywhere. Here they learn what it means and put it into practice.

At Indian Springs, students and faculty work together in a model of “shared governance.” A school constitution explains our individual and collective set responsibilities in the day-to-day operation of the school. Our school is our town. The student government is the shared voice in determining how the school operates and evolves.

Responsibility is about the tutoring system run by the Commissioners of Education. It’s about planning student concerts and Lake Day, organized by your the Commissioners of Recreation. And it’s about planning an entire day of giving back to the community, coordinated by the Commissioners of Service.

Responsibility isn’t limited to elected town officials. All students are responsible for their own educational experience. Students choose their own classes and manage their own time. If a desired course doesn’t exist, a student can work closely with a faculty member to create the coursework.

As much as personal responsibility and individuality are valued, working well with others is perhaps one of the most distinct characteristics of an Indian Springs student. Respect for individuals, values, ideas and beliefs is at the course. very core of Student Government and at the very heart of Indian Springs.
