His eyebrows are thick and black and move up and down one at a time, fast as pinball flippers. His left eyebrow is interrupted by a hanging ball of skin. I shiver with laughter and duck under the thick stream of smoke. “You call this smoke, Daddy, you don’t even know what smoke is.” My father calls me Daddy. He belongs to me. He lays the cigarette down on a plate. The smoke rises in one white rope that curls around the wagon wheel chandelier and spreads out across the tin ceiling patterned like ten thousand pizzelle. We sit together most nights, just me and him at the maple table. My brothers and sister are old enough to be out. Rosemarie works at Macy’s. CarKey and Ant’ny run the streets. My father says with boys, you don’t need to know where they are all the time. I wanna be a boy. I put my feet up on the table, eat with my hands, get my clothes filthy, lean back on the hind legs of the chair. When the women do the dishes, I sit with the men at the table. I feel like a boy most of the time, but I’m not as free as real boys. I feel most free when I’m alone with my father.

    Albert Goodwill Spalding begins his professional baseball career with the Boston Red Stockings. Over his career, 1871 he achieved a .323 batting average, an earned run average of 2.14 and an overall winning percentage of .796, a record that still stands today. He also became baseball’s first 200 game winner. The first A.G. Spalding & Brothers sporting goods store opens in Chicago. Combining his baseball experience with 1876 his business skills, A.G. Spalding & Bros. emerges as a dominant company in the sporting goods industry. Spalding makes the First Major League Baseball and becomes the official ball of the National League for the first 1876 100 years (1876-1976) and of the American League (1889-1973). Spalding makes the First Major League Baseball Glove. Throughout its’ history, dozens of Hall of Fame players have 1877 worn Spalding fielding gloves. 1878 Spalding publishes first “Official Rules Guide for Baseball”. 1882 A.G. Spalding becomes President of the Chicago White Stockings, leading the team to 5 pennants in 10 years. A.G. Spalding takes the top pro ball players around the globe playing exhibition games 1882-1889 to introduce the sport of baseball to the world. Spalding had factories across the nation and was producing 1 million bats per year, an 1900 unheard of number at that time. A.G. Spalding was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame the 1939 year it opened. JOSH: It was written by Aaron Sorkin, one of the best West Wing writers, and it was directed by Alex Graves, one of the best West Wing directors. It first aired on April 4th, 2001. HRISHI: And here’s a synopsis from TV Guide: Toby puts two and two together and finds out about the President's "thing"—his multiple sclerosis—in this episode. Toby is the 17th person to find out—but only the second (after the First Lady) to challenge him on it. And he does so forcefully. Also challenging Bartlet is a terrorist threat, and he must decide whether to beef up security at U.S. airports. Meanwhile, Josh and Donna bicker over their "anniversary"—lots of quote, unquotes.
