Notts 1911 – Part 1 This Is the Kipling Family Group with the Largest Notts 1911 – Part 1 This is the Kipling family group with the largest number of households in the 1911 census. All originate with William Kipling who married Ann Fleeman at Marnham in 1765 (‘both of Grasthorp’). See Appendix 1 for William’s origins. They had children William (1767?), John (1768), Joseph (1771), Benjamin (1777), Ruth (1779), Robert (1780), Mary (1782), George (1783), Gervas (1786), Sarah (1789) and Ann (1797)1. All were baptised at the nearby parish of Laxton. William paid window tax in 1771 (of 3 shillings on six windows; most houses in Laxton having 6 or 7 windows taxed). Ma S 16 : Ma B 192/1176: Laxton window tax return, 1771 William (75) and wife Ann (72) both died in 1814 and daughter Mary in 1816, all ‘of Lexington’ and buried at Laxton.2 For son George and his descendants, see ‘Notts 1911 – part 2’ and for William and his descendants, see ‘Notts 1911 – part 3’ William (1739-1814) ,---------- ----------------------,--------- -------|------- --------------- --------------- ----------------------,----------------,----------------,--------- ------¬ William John Joseph Benjamin Robert George Gervas (1767?-) (1768-?) This might therefore have been a child of son William and Mary or a disguised illegitimate child of a daughter (or, of course, a clerical or transcription error). 2 Lexington is another name for Laxton, being the family name of the long-time lords of the manor. John probably married a Mary Taylor, at Mattersey, further north in the county, in 1798.3 A daughter, Elizabeth, was baptised there in 1799. A further daughter, Ann, was baptised at adjacent Everton, in 1801. Mary (1804), Sarah (1807), Ann (1810) and Ruth (1812) followed. Mary died in 1813 and John remarried, to Elizabeth Cobb, at Sutton cum Loud in 1815. Further children were Elizabeth (1816), William (1819), Martha (1821) and John (1824). I have not identified when the first Elizabeth and Ann died, which they presumably did. John (senior) must also have died by the time of the 1839 tithe apportionment. Elizabeth, daughter Elizabeth and Sarah (probably Sarah Ann, an illegitimate daughter of Ann, bpt Everton 1833) were still there in 1841. Scaftworth 1841. Scrooby 1841 Scaftworth 1851. 3 However, receipts exists for rent paid by a John Kipling at Laxton in 1820-22. University of Nottingham Ma B 174/308-311 Charles was the illegitimate son of Martha (1821). His father was named as Charles Mellitt in the Everton baptismal register. Scaftworth 1861 William (1856) was a further illegitimate son of Martha (who lived as a Scaftworth spinster for the rest of her life). Scaftworth 1871 Scaftworth 1881 Scaftworth 1891 Martha died in January 1901. Sarah Ann invented a fictional father when she married in Sheffield in 1866. Charles (1850) Charles enlisted in the army in early 1871. It is unclear whether he joined the 97th Regiment of Foot or 2nd Bn 14th (Buckinghamshire - The Prince of Wales's Own) Regiment of Foot as records exist apparently showing both Records of 97th regiment of Foot (Ancestry). Findmypast suggests the other regiment. He was at Sheffield Barracks on the date of the census a few months later. Sheffield. 1871 A decade later, he was back at Scaftworth, working on a farm. Scaftworth. 1881 He married Dinah Gorrill in 1883. Bawtry Rd., Scaftworth. 1891 Bawtry Rd., Scaftworth. 1901 (#228) Charles died in 1921. Son John probably died in 1959 in Nottinghamshire. Son Charles died at Spilsby, Lincolnshire in 1977. In 1911, son Fred was boarding at Killamarsh, Derbyshire (#4). He died in Derbyshire in 1977. William (1856) William married Martha Ann Hitchen in Sheffield in 1880, Lumley Street, Sheffield. 1881 A son, William Burkinshaw, was born in 1884. Sheffield parish church Bradfield, Sheffield., 1891 1901, Lumley Street, Sheffield (#349) Sheffield Daily Telegraph - Tuesday 21 February 1922 I can’t trace when William died. William Burkinshaw (1884) William B married in 1909. In 1910, they had twin sons William and Rothwell. Wincobank parish church, Sheffield. (#345) He died in Sheffield in 1938. William B junior died in 1973 and Rothwell in 1977, both in Sheffield. William (1819) Cromwell 1841 (may be him but Cromwell is well south of Scaftworth) William later enlisted in the army, where he served until 1850. He was discharged after suffering chronic ill-health. 1851 Carlton in Lindrick William married Mary Ellen Rowland at Carlton in May 1851. William moved to Sheffield, where Mary Ellen died in 1853. He remarried the following year. They had sons William Henry (1859) and John Arthur (1861). Queen Street Chapel, Sheffield. 1861 (John was also baptised at Watery Street Wesleyan Reformed Chapel on the same day) 1861. Bardwell Road, Sheffield 1871. Bardwell Road, Sheffield 1881. Neepsend Lane, Sheffield Mary Ann died in 1882 and William in 1887. William Henry (1859) Creswick Road, Sheffield. 1881 Wicker, Sheffield. 1891 Jane died later in 1891. Electoral register, 1900. WadsleyHamlet, Sheffield. Holme Lane, Wadsley. 1901 William Henry remarried in 1903, to Rosina Smith. A daughter, Grace, was born in 1904. William Henry died in 1909. Rosina was living with Grace in 1911 (#344). White’s Directory of Sheffield & Rotherham 1911 Rosina remarried in 1911. Marlcliffe (Hillsborough) Temporary School. Admissions 1911 The family then emigrated to Canada. ‘Virginian’. Liverpool to Quebec. July 1913 1921, York, Ontario In 1911, daughter Lily was living with her brother-in-law in Dalton-in-Furness In 1939, Lily was living in Nottingham. Shakespeare St., Nottingham. 1939 It’s possible that Lily died at Blackpool in 1966. John Arthur (1861) John Arthur married Annie Maria Coates in Sheffield in 1886. In 1888, he was left £100 in the will of his employer. Sheffield Daily Telegraph - Monday 18 June 1888 A son, Frank, was born the same year. Trinity Church, Darnall, Sheffield 1889 After the birth of a son, Frank, they moved to Pollockshields in Glasgow, where daughter Edith was born. Post Office directory. Glasgow 1890-91 1891 Kenmuir St, Pollockshields, Glasgow. Further children Alice and Edgar were born in Scotland. The family subsequently relocated to Penarth in South Wales, where a further three children were born; May, Harold and Arthur. Penarth Parish church. 1899. John’s sister, mary Elizabeth, must have lived with them, as she died in Penarth in 198 The children attended the local school. Albert Road School, Penarth. Similar records exist for Harold (started 1903) and Arthur (1905). Clive Place, Penarth. 1901 Son Frank died in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire in 1906 but was buried back in Penarth. Penarth Parish Church 1906 In 1907, John Arthur was initiated into the freemasons’ Windsor Lodge, Penarth and in 1918 into the Hendre Lodge, Cardiff. In 1911, the family was still in Penarth (#144). Western Mail - Monday 22 April 1918 Western Mail - Tuesday 23 April 1918 John Arthur died in 1928. Sheffield Daily Telegraph - Friday 28 September 1928 In 1939, son Harold and two daughters were living with Annie Maria. 12 Clive Place, Penarth. Annie Maria died in 1941. Penarth. 1941 Son Edgar was a marine engineer. On the outbreak of World War One, his ship’s crew was interned (at Ruleben camp, near Berlin) After the war, he returned to sea. In 1934, he was one of a group of ‘distressed British seamen’ who embarked upon the RMS Orduna at Nassau, bound for Liverpool. 1939. Plymouth Road, Penarth. Edgar probably died in East Glamorgan district in 1969. Harold also went to sea, as a radio operator. He died in South Wales in 1995. Arthur also went to sea. He married Jessie Sims (nee Davies) in 1931. 1939. Station Approach, Penarth In 1942, when Chief Engineering Officer of MV British Splendour, Arthur was killed when his ship (a gasoline tanker) was sunk by U552 off Cape Hatteras whilst travelling from Houston to Britain. His name is on panel 21 of the Tower Hill memorial. John (1824) John married Mary Nutt in Sheffield in 1855. Sheffield Daily Telegraph - Tuesday 28 March 1865 Eyre Street, Sheffield. 1881 John died in 1883 and was buried at Derbyshire Lane Cemetery, Norton. Sheffield. 1891 Sheffield. 1901 Mary died in 1910 and was also buried at Derbyshire Lane Cemetery, Norton (under the name Mary Jane). Joseph (1771) Joseph married Mary Gabbitas at Everton in 1803. I can find no evidence that they had children. Could this be them (Joseph is 10 years younger than would be expected and the age gap to Mary seems large)? Scaftworth 1841 Stamford Mercury - Friday 24 February 1843 It is not known when Joseph died. Benjamin (1777) Benjamin married Elizabeth Roe at Weston in 1799. A son Joseph was baptised there in 1800 and a daughter, Hannah, at Marnham in 1802 (when Benjamin was a labourer of Skegby). William (1804), Mary (1808), Ann (1810), George (1813) and Benjamin (1815) followed. I have not discovered when Benjamin and Elizabeth died. Joseph (1800) Stamford Mercury - Friday 29 November 1839 Welham Hamlet 1841 Clarborough 1851 Nottinghamshire Guardian - Thursday 05 January 1860 Welham. 1861 Bollam Lane, Clarborough.

CENTENARY INDEX To the TRANSACTIONS OF THE THOROTON SOCIETY of NOTTINGHAMSHIRE Volumes 1 - 100 1897-1997 Together with the THOROTON SOCIETY RECORD SERIES Volumes I - XL 1903-1997 and the THOROTON SOCIETY EXCAVATION SECTION Annual Reports1936-40 Compiled by LAURENCE CRAIK ã COPYRIGHT THOROTON SOCIETY AND COMPILER ISBN 0 902719 19X INTRODUCTION The Thoroton Society began to publish the 'Transactions' in 1897. This volume is intended as an Centenary index to all material published in the 'Transactions' from 1897 to 1996, to the contents of the Record Series volumes published from 1903 to 1997, and to the reports of the Excavation Section published between 1936 and 1940. Earlier indexes were published in 1951 and 1977; these are now superseded by this new Centenary index. Contents The index is in two parts: an author index, and an index to subjects, periods, and places. AUTHOR: this lists articles under the names of their authors or editors, giving the full title, volume number and page numbers. Where an article has more than one author or editor, it is listed by title under the name of each author or editor, with relevant volume and page numbers. SUBJECT: The contents of articles are indexed by subject and by place; topics of archaeological importance are also indexed by period. Cross-references are used to refer the enquirer from one form of heading to another, for example 'Abbeys' see ' Monastic houses', or from general headings such as 'Monastic houses' to the names of individual buildings. Place-names in the index are often followed by sub-headings indicating particular topics.

Following receipt of your request searches were conducted within Nottinghamshire Police to locate the information you require. Please find below answers to your questions:- RESPONSE Under S 1 (1) (a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), I can confirm that Nottinghamshire Police does hold the information you have requested. Please send me: The revenue raised through all speed cameras, both static and mobile, in the Bassetlaw district for the last three years. The only revenue raised is by way of a referral fee paid to the police when an offender completes a Speed Awareness course, which is £35.00. If an offender is given a conditional offer (fixed penalty) then this fine is paid direct to central government and the police do not receive any part of it. A total of 18,355 courses were completed by offenders committing speeding offences on Bassetlaw sites during the past three years. Referral fees paid to the police for these were £642,425.00. The three years used for these figures were 2012, 2013 and 2014 (calendar years) I would also like to know the number of fixed penalty notices issued for all static and mobile speed cameras in Bassetlaw (including a breakdown of the corresponding locations of the cameras).
