don’t have to be the one to tell you that this year has been Iunlike any other in memory. Nor are many of us sorry to see 2020 go. Looming over the year was a worldwide coronavirus pan- demic, one that’s presently on the verge of having infected a billion people, and which has killed over two million worldwide so far, and which has put many economies, large and small, on the brink of disaster. America’s businesses and industries have suffered like no time since perhaps the Great Depression. Certain industries, such as those making hand sanitizer or masks, have done all right or even flourished, some have stayed about the same; but many, including the bar and restaurant industries, entertainment industries, travel-related industries, casinos, and even the auto parts industry have taken massive hits. Some, such as the movie theaters or certain bars, restaurants or retailers, may never recover, and sadly we may end up losing more than a few of them permanently. Amid this gloomy reality, there is hope: the virus is better understood now; people are clamoring to rejoin society; warmer weather is coming, where more outdoor activities can happen more easily and involve more people. It has been no different in Hamtramck. The city’s mayor, Karen Majewski, has been giving weekly Monday updates -- primarily concerned with the virus, and its local effects. Some of our businesses have been closed for ten months and counting. Times have been tough here, as everywhere around the globe, to varying degrees. Within this difficult climate, we have attempted to provide you, the citizens of this wonderful city, with a Business Directory that is as accurate and up-to-date as humanly possible. Bear in mind that many businesses, while still open, may have significantly reduced, or otherwise altered, their hours, or even days, of operation. In conclusion, let’s all hope for, visualize, pray for, and expect a much, much better 2021; one where we can all return to a more normal way of living, a dare-I-say American way of living free – a Hamtramck way of living.
