LOCATION: All Summer Arts classes are held at the Emporia Arts Center at 815 Commercial Street.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE: The Emporia Arts Center CANNOT be responsible for a child’s care before or after a class. Please drop off and pick up your child promptly. You or an adult designated by you will be asked to sign your child in and out before leaving the area. Children under the age of 10 must be picked up from their specific classroom.

CLASS FEES: Payment is required at time of enrollment. Art supplies for all classes are included in class fees, unless indicated in the class description.

ENROLLMENT: Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. EAC cannot “hold” space in a class without payment in advance. Confirmations are not sent. Assume that you are enrolled in the class for which you registered. We will contact you in the event that the class is full or cancelled. Refunds are given only when a class is full or is cancelled by EAC.

MAKE-UP: If a class meeting is cancelled by EAC, a make-up class will be scheduled. If a student is unable to attend a class, EAC is not responsible for providing a make-up. Class fees are not pro-rated for classes misses by students or for late enrollments.

Students will use their senses of sight, touch, and sound as they incorporate the use of jingle bells into their creative process.

In this fun class, layers of colored sand are poured into a bottle to create a fun keepsake, reminiscent of an island getaway!

Students will create their own peacock using finger paints.

In this fun class, students will use noodles, yarn, and other items to explore alternative methods of painting. This class gets messy, so wear old clothes!

In this fun class, students will explore the differences between humans and dinosaurs, and create a painting using the same imagined techniques as our prehistoric pals!

CHINESE DRAGON DRUMS Date: Wednesday, July 16 Fee: $14 Min/Max: 2/10 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. CODE: 14-PRE-017 All percussionists to the stage! In this class, students will create a functional replica of a Chinese Drum. It’s the perfect project for the musically-inclined, with energy to spare!

Students will get the choice of creating and decorating several different musical instruments. Drumming enthusiast? Aspiring guitarist? ‘C’ IS FOR CIRCLES Date: Wednesday, August 6 Fee: $14 Min/Max: 2/12 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. CODE: 14-PRE-031 Hula hoops, basketballs, oranges, and cookies… think of all of the fun things that are shaped like a circle! In this class, students will use paper towel rolls to create paintings covered with circles in every color of the rainbow.

GEORGIA O’KEEFFE: ABSTRACT FLOWERS Date: Tuesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 12 Fee: $26 Min/Max: 2/10 Time: 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. CODE: 14-K2-004 While being encouraged to experience nature through their own eyes, students will create a flower painting using the work of Georgia O’Keeffe as an inspiration. Students will leave this class with wonderful memories and a beautiful 11”x14” canvas painting.

CRAZY LINE PAINTING Date: Wednesday, June 11 Fee: $12 Min/Max: 14-K2-003 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. Draw a line…any old line…and see where it goes! Using oil pastels, paint, and simple line-making techniques, students will create a vibrantly-colored, one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

METAL TOOLING Date: Thursday, June 12 Fee: $20 Min/Max: 2/10 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. CODE: 14-K2-011 Be prepared for lots of hammering! Students will learn basic metalworking techniques by embossing lines, patterns, colors, and textures into a soft metal.

POINTILLISM PAINTING Date: Friday, June 13 Fee: $12 Min/Max: 2/10 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. CODE: 14-K2-007 After an introduction to the pointillism technique used by artist Georges Seurat, students will create a beautiful painting using this “dot” technique. Bonus: pointillism is an excellent practice for refining fine motor skills!

Using carving and stamping techniques, students will create unique clay tiles, use those tiles as a relief for plaster, and then decorate the final product!

PAINT LIKE VAN GOGH Date: Friday, August 1 Fee: $14 Min/Max: 2/10 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. CODE: 14-K2-031 The work of Vincent van Gogh serves as the inspiration for this painting class. Students will create their choice of van Gogh work using sponges and brushes to mimic his texture.
