URBAN PROJECTS IN SCYTHIA MINOR Ioana-Iulia OLARU, Lecturer, Ph.D. (George Enescu University of Arts, Iaşi, Romania) Abstract 223 This study presents some examples of cities – Histria, Tomis, Callatis, Tropaum Traiani, L Troesmis, Noviodunum, Arganum, Dinogetia, Capidava – that focus on the urban projects im that the Romans put into practice in the province of Scythia Minor, where they developed ba j Greek urban types in order to put into practice the new conceptions according to which the ş i architectural model of Urbs should be a living example. c o n t Keywords: urban type, architectural model, city. ext Rezumat , A Studiul prezintă câteva exemple de oraşe – Histria, Tomis, Callatis, Tropaeum Traiani, nu Troesmis, Noviodunum, Arganum, Dinogetia, Capidava –, care aduc, în prim-plan, proiecte l I urbanistice pe care romanii le-au pus în practică în provincia Scythia Minor, unde au V dezvoltat tipuri urbanistice greceşti, găsite aici pentru a pune în practică noile concepţii, , vo conform cărora modelul arhitectural al lui Urbs trebuia să fie un exemplu viu. l. Cuvinte-cheie: tip de urbanizare, model arhitectural, oraş. 1 , 201 Immediately after the Roman conquest, urbanism and architecture as well 2 reached their peak of development in ancient times and even in the first part of Late Antiquity. The role of the peripheral regions had started to grow in the Empire, beginning with the period of the Antonions, while the Late Empire, opened by the dinasty of the Severs, affirms its force in architecture, urbanism extending itself in provinces, too. Our newly founded cities will respect the same construction techniques of buildings, the most frequent being opus incertum, opus caementicum, opus quadratum, opus listatum.

  • NORTHERN DOBROGEA Abundant Andthefishare Nervous
© Lonely Planet 290 Northern Dobrogea Northern Dobrogea is undeniably a kingdom unto itself within Romania. Despite the lack of prevailing Romanian icons (breathtaking mountains, ancient churches, the undead), the Danube River (Râul Dunărea) and the Black Sea coast (Marea Neagră) contain offerings rang- ing from all nature to au natural. The 194km coastline (litoral) attracts waves of wildlife and party animals alike. Equally, those seeking waterfront seclusion, archaeological stimulation and overwhelming numbers of exotic birds won’t be disappointed. Though widely considered to be the least ‘Romanian’ part of the country, ironically, this is where the strongest evidence of Romania’s conspicuously proud connection to ancient NORTHERN DOBROGEA Rome is found in the form of statues, busts, sarcophagi and other archaeological finds. The cultural distance from the rest of Romania can be partially explained by the unusually broad ethnic diversity in the area. Sizeable Turkish, Tatar, Bulgarian, Ukrainian and Lippovani/Old Believer settlements add to the mix, giving the area a refreshing burst of multiculturalism. History and culture notwithstanding, marine life still rules supreme here, despite tenacious attempts by humans to usurp the crown. On one hand we have the 65km stretch south of Mamaia where humans converge in beach resort towns to soothe their bodies with sunshine and curative mud. These restorative pursuits are then promptly annulled hours later by glut- tonous feasts and some of the wildest clubbing in the country. Alternately, the calming and notably less opulent Danube Delta draws bird-lovers and seekers of solitude. A fantastic, tangled network of ever-eroding canals, riverbeds and wetlands in Europe’s second-largest delta boasts remote fishing villages and stretches of deserted coast, where the pelicans are abundant and the fish are nervous.

ARS Medica Tomitana - 2016; 1(22): 10 - 14 10.1515/arsm-2016-0002 Ruben I.1, Preda Cristina1, Tuta Liliana Ana2,3 Spatial statistics detect clustering patterns of kidney diseases in south-eastern Romania 1 Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, Ovidius University of Constanţa, Romania 2 “Sf. Apostol Andrei” Clinical Emergency Hospital of Constanţa, Romania 3 Faculty of Medicine, ”Ovidius” University of Constanţa, Romania ABSTRACT Introduction Medical geography was conceptualized almost ten years ago due to its obvious usefulness in epidemiological research. Still, numerous diseases in many regions were neglected in these aspects of research, and the prevalence of kidney diseases in Eastern Europe is such an example. Medical geography was conceptualized We evaluated the spatial patterns of main kidney almost ten years ago due to its obvious usefulness diseases in south-eastern Romania, and highlighted the in epidemiological research[1]. Since then, many importance of spatial modeling in medical management spatial statistics and tests were applied on public in Romania. We found two statistically significant health data in order to evaluate research questions hotspots of kidney diseases prevalence. We also found such as space clusters of diseases, relation of these differences in the spatial patterns between categories of clusters with possible factors as waste and pollution diseases. We propose to speed up the process of creating sites, management of medical services, etc.[2]. The a national database of records on kidney diseases. Offering the researchers access to a national database majority of the medical systems already evaluated will allow further epidemiology studies in Romania and the long term spatial patterns of different epidemics finally lead to a better management of medical services.
