Purpose: To be responsible for the smooth operation of all development, fundraising and donor based activities, including leading the fundraising for Southwark Playhouse’s on-going capital campaign. Job Context Southwark Playhouse exists to be a platform for new and emerging theatre companies and practitioners to showcase their work in London. In doing so it presents a varied programme of theatre from new writing to reimagined revivals in uniquely flexible and dynamic theatre spaces. It also exists to engage its local community by offering a range of drama related activities that promote learning and social cohesion. This is a very exciting time in the history of Southwark Playhouse as the organisation is undertaking a capital campaign to raise funds to open two new theatre venues in Elephant & Castle and London Bridge over the next two years. The organisation is now seeking a Development Manager. This is a brand new role that aims to consolidate, develop and lead the organisation’s fundraising activities. Detailed Responsibilities To work with – and handover from - existing consultant fundraisers who are based at Southwark Playhouse until May 2018. To take on all existing fundraising relationships with regards to the capital campaign and actively pursue new opportunities. To work with the Communications Manager on the delivery of the public fundraising. To strategise, administrate and manage fundraising and development at Southwark Playhouse, building key relationships and identifying new fundraising areas as well as maximising existing ones. To have lead responsibility in creating and implementing the fundraising strategy as part of the Theatre’s business plan, with a sustainable portfolio of income streams including trusts & foundations, individuals and corporate sector income. To research, draft and follow up on grant applications for both project and core funding to trusts and foundations, statutory funding and private sources. To develop individual giving including major donor giving, creating and implementing strategies to increase the size of donations and the number of donors. To actively seek out and identify new sources of income, pursuing potential avenues such as sponsorship, setting up new membership schemes and organising fundraising events that will support the Theatre’s activities and key objectives. To support the Chief Executive and General Manager in setting fundraising and income generation targets and ensure that these are achieved. To manage departmental income and expenditure. To develop networks of potential donors, making approaches through written correspondence, telephone conversations and meetings, ensuring that they are personal, tailored and tracked. To prepare persuasive proposals, applications and presentations. Southwark Playhouse Theatre Company Ltd Registered in England no. 02994954 Registered charity no. 1042870 To foster effective relationships with all existing donors, supporters and sponsors, including monitoring and evaluation report writing and reapplications, and maintaining an appropriate system of donation acknowledgement. To take the lead on organising fundraising events for Southwark Playhouse. Working with the CEO and General Manager, to design and produce materials in support of fundraising. To develop and maintain efficient and comprehensive records and systems covering all aspects of fundraising work. When appropriate, to attend Board meetings to report on fundraising progress and targets. To represent Southwark Playhouse within theatre, education and arts sectors and at public events with a view to developing contacts that will aid fundraising and increase awareness of the organisation’s activities. To develop an in-depth understanding of the company’s ethos including the artistic and education policies, equality and diversity, programming and audiences; and to work in line with the current management values and objectives To perform any other reasonable activities as required. Person Specification Essential skills, attributes and experience: Educated to degree level or equivalent, with at least two year’s professional fundraising experience Proactive, entrepreneurial and creative in identifying new income sources Broad knowledge of, and a proven track record in successful fundraising from, a range of sources including trusts and foundations and corporate responsibility funds Experience of working on a capital fundraising campaign Experience of managing existing and new relationships with charitable trusts/foundations and individual donors Strong commercial acumen, with experience in budget development and control and ability to think strategically Target-focused and results-driven approach, ability to plan and manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and respond effectively to changing situations and circumstances Good organisational and administrative skills, with meticulous attention to detail Persuasive and consistent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills A passion for, and commitment to, the performing arts Proficient IT skills including MS Office and database management Ability to work within a small, multi-disciplinary team Desirable skills, attributes and experience: Knowledge of UK theatre and current arts scene and/or experience working in the arts or creative industries Knowledge and/or experience of arts education Knowledge and/or experience of using Salesforce CRM software Basic knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop Please Note This is a brand new role so this job description is indicative of the expected responsibilities of the position but the candidate should expect that as the job evolves the scope of the role may be subject to change. After the probationary period, the notice period is three months. • Salary: £26,643.18 per annum, pro rata (0.6 FTE) - £15,985.91 • Holiday: 28 days (pro rata) per annum including statutory holidays • The basic working week is 24 hours (3 days equivalent) per week. General office hours are 10am to 6pm Mon-Fri.
