Items of Interest from the Years 197780 (taken from The Official Guide of 1981/82). Gathered from the Local Newspapers, etc. during the past year. Every care is taken to make the following list correct but no item or date is guarenteed by the publisher.

!!! Of interest in this issue is the 'saga' of a market in the village. An independent market was started on a Sunday in April 1977, just outside the village by the river. This proved very popular with the local villagers with over 5000 people turning up for the first one, however the Parish Council were not pleased as an application to hold a market in had been turned down just two months earlier. The organisers of the Sunday market were taken to court for infringing Sunday trading laws and the Parish Council looked into setting up their own market. After the court case the Sunday market reopened as a 'shopping club' but it gradually got smaller and smaller until it stopped altogether. The weekly market that came out of this episode is still held every Tuesday in the carpark of the Crown public house.
