LIONS PRIDE Lions pride Monthly Newsletter ISSUE: MAY 2018 C ontinued Prayers……… We want to ask our HCA Family for continued healing prayers for Dr. Bryan. We look forward to a fast recovery and having him back soon. God Bless! LIONS PRIDE | May 2018 2 May in Athletics Update for our Lady Lions Varsity Softball Team Congratulations to the Lady Lions Varsity Softball team on their win in the District 2A-5 quarterfinal game. They defeated Foundation Christian Academy by a score of 11-1. Despite a slow start offensively, the Lions' defense was unstoppable and committed no errors in the game. Pitcher Madison Hamilton faced a total of 23 batters, but only had two hits and two walks against her. The entire defense backed her up with solid play on the ground and in the air. Once the bats started getting hot in the fifth and sixth inning, the Lions were able to put it away with a walk off run by Esther Jackson. This was truly a team effort and everyone had a part in the win. In the semifinal game, the Lions faced Academy at the Lakes on Tuesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. The team went into the game strong, but Academy at the Lakes ended up with the win. Congratulations to our Lady Lions for a fantastic softball season! Check out our Lady Lions Tennis! This year our HCA girls’ team had a first. All girls had a winning record for the 2018 season. Additionally, the Lions had two district champions: At #4 Singles, Courtney McLain and #5 Singles, Ann Manuel. Both went undefeated to capture these titles. We are very proud of these two girls and all their hard work and dedication. The Lady Lions placed third at district, missing a regional berth by one point. Great job ladies and look out next year! Are you playing a sport next year at HCA? If so, you will need a Sports Physical to be completed. HCA is offering FREE Sports Physicals on Monday, May 21st from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Clinic. LIONS PRIDE Elementary News It is hard to believe we are on the home stretch for the 2017-2018 school year. Stanford 10 and the OLSAT test are over and the classes are back to a normal schedule. All classes are focusing on the remaining academic skills to prepare them for the next grade level. We want to keep up the pace and not get summer fever too soon. We still have a lot of work to do and must continue to strive to do our best. Field trips are starting to be scheduled for the end of the year and the students are excited. Check out some of the great things that have been happening in Elementary this past month. A Day with the Reptiles! Our Kindergarten classes celebrated Animal Day on April 20th. J.T. Reptiles brought in several critters to show the students in the gym. He arrived with snakes, frogs, centipedes, and an alligator. The students enjoyed learning all about these animals. They ended the day with fishing on the playground. The students were excited to share the experience with their families after school. An exciting way to learn about our history! Mr. Leonhart visited Ms. Thomas' 5th grade class to tell them about WWII. He brought in objects and memorabilia to help explain. The kids loved him! He did a great job helping them understand the sacrifices of men and women in the armed forces. Thank you Mr. Leonhart! LIONS PRIDE | May 2018 4 Elementary Cont.
