The Local's Tourist Guide to Tivat
The Local's Tourist Guide To Tivat Porto Montenegro Marina A few years ago Tivat was a rather unattractive town in the Bay of Kotor. The first time I went there I said 'Ugh. Who would want to live here? The Commie blocks (depressing, grey, Communist-era apartment blocks)! There's no old town! This is NOT a tourist destination.' Fast forward a few years and Tivat has been transformed! From a grey town with no attractions, it's become a fantastic destination to stay during your holiday in Montenegro. Here's why: • There's an airport just 5km from town so you can touch down and be sipping a Mohito overlooking the sea in less than an hour. • It's close to major tourist destinations: 15 minutes from Kotor, 30 minutes from Budva and 15 minutes from Lustica Peninsula's amazing sandy beaches. • There's a lot of great restaurants to choose from. • Street parking in the town is FREE! • And if you don't have a car, the town is so compact you can easily get around on foot. • Porto Montenegro and it's super yachts are a great place to eat, stroll and shop. About Tivat Tivat is rumoured to be named after the Illyrian queen Teuta, who ruled part of Montenegro. She was attacked by the Romans in 229 B.C. and had to retreat from Lake Skadar to Risan in Kotor Bay and built herself a summer residence in Tivat. The town is quite small and is based around the centre and waterfront. If you're staying in town, you can easily get around on foot and will only need a rental car if you're sightseeing. -

A country small in size but great in challenges. A country with 620,000 citizens and two million guests. A hidden corner of the planet that the world has just started to discover! 2 MONTENEGRO Lake Bukumirsko Sveti Stefan ontenegro is extraordinary, different and unique. This pearl of the Mediterranean is to be found only two hours away by plane from most major European centres. Situated on Mthe coast of the old continent, washed by the Adriatic Sea, this small country has been creating its history for centuries under the influence of the Illyrians, Greeks, Romans, Venetians, Austro-Hungarians, and others. This is where Montenegro’s specific quality comes from: the clash of civilizations, the heritage of different cultures, all leading to inter-ethnical and religious toleran- ce and respect. What makes this country unique, however, is primarily its extraordinary and wild beauty. In an area of only 13,800 square kilometres, city of museums, or impressed by Mount Lovcen, many great contrasts are intertwined: deep ca- the eternal resting place of the great poet Njegos, nyons, as exciting as the one of the Colorado Ri- you can be soothed by the soft summer breeze, ver, crystal clear seas, unexplored mountain crags, cheered up by a kind word from your hosts, but rapid untamed rivers, and quiet lakes. -
