Commerce Observations & Comments Monthly Message from Chamber President Frank McCormick

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR NEW BUSINESS IN SAINT ALBANS. Attend grand openings and ribbon cutting ceremonies.

SHOW BUSINESSES THAT YOU WANT THEM TO BE IN SAINT ALBANS. Attending ribbon cutting ceremonies and grand openings is something that can be done with little effort but can produce great impressions on a new business and also on a business that is thinking about starting up in Saint Albans.

SHOW YOU CARE; SHOW UP AND BE COUNTED. If we want more shops and stores to open up in Saint Albans, we as individuals, need to take the time to show up, to let them know that we want them here, and that we are glad that they chose Saint Albans as a place for their business.

I challenge the businesses of Saint Albans to help support new businesses by encouraging your employees and work associates to attend these events. As a business owner in Saint Albans I see the value in this, and I hope you do, too.

The more businesses we have in Saint Albans, the stronger we become as a city and as a community.

Saint Albans: A Remarkable Opportunity!

They have a promotion going on now that ends on February 7, so we must all act quickly to submit our town, Saint Albans, for HGTV’s HOMETOWN TAKEOVER! Stars of the HGTV series Home Town— Ben and Erin Napier are looking for a hometown in America to make over.

HERE ARE THE REQUIREMENTS: ü The town must have a population of less than 40,000. ü The town must have homes with great architecture longing to be revealed. ü The town must have a Main Street that needs a facelift.

WHAT HGTV PLANS TO DO IN THE WINNING HOMETOWN: • Rehab multiple individual family homes • Rehab local diners and restaurants • Rehab outdoor places and recreational areas

WHAT YOU CAN DO: • Go to HGTVHometownTakeover.com and register our town, Saint Albans. • Upload photos of places around town that need a facelift. • Upload videos that show historic homes and a tour around town. • Tell what what makes Saint Albans special and how you would like HGTV to make it better.

The more people who submit photos, videos, and paragraphs—the better chance we have of being selected for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Let’s all pull together to show America how much we love our hometown by giving our time, photos, videos, and written word—for the common good of Saint Albans. The Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Community!

Community Celebrations: Saint Albans Businesses Decorate the City!

When the Friends of Christmas announced their Christmas Storefront Window Decorating Contest, the businesses in town got busy! By December, the businesses around town were aglow with beautiful decorations and lights! The judging committee had their work cut out for them. The independent judges came to Saint Albans with the task of selecting one winning storefront window. They just couldn’t do it, so they settled on three!

The winners are: Flowers On Olde Main, Chandler’s Floor and Wall Covering, and the Saint Albans Shoe Repair Shop. Congratulations to the McCormick family, the Chandler family, and Charlie McCoy for a job well done! And thanks to all of the area businesses that participated and made our city look beautiful for the Christmas holidays!

The Christmas Tree Decorating Contest at City National Bank and BB&T Bank on Sixth Avenue had festive decorations that were enjoyed by the entire community. Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home was the winner with its tribute tree honoring the first responders in town. EMS, police, and fire department members were shown much love and respect with this tree. Congratulations to Tom and Eva Nichols for a remarkable tree! And thanks to all of the groups who entered a tree in the contest! You certainly showcased your love of Saint Albans and your Christmas spirit!
