IRVING VOICES IS THE VOICE FOR THE PEOPLE Elect Council Who Will Get Transportation and Wa ter Consultant Contracts “Right” We must elect council persons who realize that consultants have a responsibility to the city per their contract. It recently came as a surprise for City staff to discover that the long awaited Hwy. 114 construction would negatively im- pact a restaurant pad (part of the convention center hotel planning) which has been greatly anticipated. Both the hotel and the anticipated highway construction should have been under the radar of Dean International per his contract, but the oversight was discovered by staff, not by our million dollar consultant. We have paid millions of dollars in lawsuits at Dean’s instruction on water law suits, and we are still no closer to having rights to water in Oklahoma. We need to elect councilmen who will hold consultants’ responsible, not just hand over millions to the same consultants year after year. Do we need Transportation Summits every year? Do we need Transportation Consultants? Do we need Water Consultants? Ask your candidate about his ideas on transportation and water.

Elect Council Who Will Push for Forensic Audits We have candidates running who are professionals, who know the importance of budgets and accountability. We need to elect professionals with experience who will push for audits and balanced budgets. Ask your candidate what his experience is with budgets. A candidate needs business sense, budget sense, and leadership ability.

Elect Council Who Will Ask the Hard Questions Will you pay the Chamber over $1M for Economic Development when we already have staff capable of doing this job? Frequently there is a conflict of interest between the City’s interest and the Chamber’s interest and the City could easily save this money given to the Chamber while utilizing current staff and maintaining better control? Will you hire a permanent Fire Chief? We need a permanent chief BEFORE we buy a fire engine. Will you pass the Ethics Policy that has been presented? We Want Ethical Councilmen and Employees. Will you support a legal staff that can handle general lawsuits and answer council questions when addressed?

Elect Council Who Will Tell You Up Front That I am not a Pre-Owned, Recycled, Retread Candidate. I am not beholden to any consultant, group or lobbyist. I do not support private/public partnerships such as LCG/Entertainment Center or McDougal/Heritage Crossing. I do not support a Chamber who advocates with taxpayer money to the Texas Congress for gambling by calling it economic development. Whether you are for or against gambling, this is a misuse of taxpayer dollars given them by the City in the name of economic development. We don’t need an old regime councilman who said, “We do have time to sit back and make other plans, so if we lose our court battles, we have a backup plan.” (A. Meagher, DMN 1/16/11)(Referring to LCG lawsuit.)
