Descendants of Henry WEBB 1-Henry WEBB1 was born on 15 May 1350 in Warwickshire, England.1 General Notes: Webb history from Virginia Webb. The WEBB family was originally from Dorset, a shire on the southern coast of Wales in England. For nearly two hundred years the WEBBs had resided in this place which is near Stratford-on-Avon before Alexander Jr with his four sons came to America. The brothers had become quite wealthy. They sold their estate in England for a large sum of money prior to their departure. This English property was inherited through their ancestor, Sir Henry Webb. A copy of the letter which Queen Catherine Parr sent her Council (Cabinet Ministers) asking them to grant her beloved friend, Henry Webb, the lands and estates that had been mentioned for him is still extant and in possession of Dr George F Webb of Astabula, Ohio to whom much of the historical data of the Webb family is credited. These lands had been confiscated by the King at the suppression of the monasteries and were located in Dorsetshire, England. In later years they became of value to the children who came to America. William married and had 1 child, John 5-John WEBB1 was born on 9 Jul 1450 in Oldsrck, England1 and died in Stratford, Warwickshire, England.1 John married and had 1 child, John Alexander 6-John Alexander WEBB1 was born on 11 Jan 1484 in Stratford, Warwickshire, England.1 General Notes: See " Norwalk " by Rev. Dr. Selleck 1898 page 403. Sir Alexander Webb b: 1484 was an Officer of rank in the army of King Henry VIII and had Henry, Mary and Abigail. The name of his wife is unknown. John married and had 3 children, Henry Alexander, Mary, and Abigail. 7-Henry Alexander WEBB1 was born on 11 May 1510 in Stratford, Warwickshire, England.1 Henry married Grace ARDEN1 in 1533.1 Grace was born about 1512 in Wilmcote, England. They had one son: Alexander. 8-Alexander WEBB1 was born on 24 Dec 1534 in Stratford, Warwickshire, England1 and died in 1573 in Stratford, Warwickshire, England1 at age 39. This was the beginning of the great WEBB family in the United States. From Bates’ Braintree town records, p658, “Humility Webb, widow dyed, November, 1687 aged 99.” If the last statement is true, then the birthdate of her husband Christopher must be somewhere closer to 1580-1590. Date of Death : June 1671 Place of Death : Braintree, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Probate : According to the notes of Webb Hester, his will was proved 2 November 1671 and inventory valued at £109.16.10, by Saml Thompson & Joseph Adams (Suff.Prob. 8:15) Military Service : unknown Occupation(s) : He is listed as a Freeman at Braintree, Massachusetts, May 1645. Pattee made note of an entry in the Mass. Hist. Coll, (2nd Series, Vol6, p414), “1645 - That year twenty families petitioned the court for liberty to begin a plantation where Grouton and his company had erected two or more houses at Shanamet, some point of Punhom’s land, but challenged by Mr. Brown of Plymouth as belonging to their jurisdiction.” Christopher Webb’s name was subscribed to the petition. They had one son: Christopher Jr.. General Notes: She may have been a COOPER, daughter of Robert COOPER and Joan Gresham 11-Christopher Jr. WEBB1 was born in 1630 in Crediton, Devon County, England1 and died on 30 May 1694 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts1 at age 64. General Notes: Christopher was a representative of his town and was referred to as "Honorable Christopher Webb". From him is descended the Baltimore branch of the family. For a period of seventeen years he served as town clerk of Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He recorded the dates of marriages, births and deaths of the citizens of Braintree in Norfolk County Massachusetts. He did so in the OLD STYLE, following the precepts set forth in the Julian Calendar. To my son John Webb and his heirs twenty pounds, to be paid immediately after my wife’s decease. Inventory, lands, meadows, dwelling-house, and outhouses, £240.10; salt march, £30; dwelling house at Monatiquit (the present township of Braintree) and half and acre of orchard, £35; sundries, £80.2.6; total, £385.12.6.” Military Service : In 1675 Indian raids nearby caused the town to establish a garrison and they appointed Richard Thayer to be in command of it. He turned out to be quite a scoundrel who attempted to cheat the Town of Braintree of money by making false allegations concerning his military exploits against Indians on the town’s behalf.
