WATCH THE BAND'S NEW VIDEO FOR "THE ALCHEMIST" Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #4 in CDs & Vinyl (See Top 100 in CDs & Vinyl) #2 in Rock (CDs & Vinyl) The wait is over. The new Blue Öyster Cult album, "The Symbol Remains" is officially released, along with a new video for the song "The Alchemist." With 14 new songs, Blue Öyster Cult's new album, "The Symbol Remains," is packed with killer riffs, sweet harmonies, crunchy guitars and a dash of twang. The album captures, at long last, the creative side of a band that has been playing shows on the road consistently for nearly two decades. "Symbol" offers a palette of sonic variety and interesting song topics, including sword and sorcery, vampires, modern technology, and apathetic bar brawls, courtesy of lyricist , a frequent contributor to the band's later catalogue, as well as O.G. back-in-the-day writer Richard Meltzer—author of some of BÖC's most cryptic lyrics. And a special surprise with an appearance of founding member , who returns to add percussion (cowbell, of course) and backing vocals to the opening track, "That Was Me." Lead guitarist Buck Dharma wrote six of the tracks, including "Box In My Head," an earworm of a song that is rich in melody and intricate vocal harmonies. Of the contributions by guitarist Richie Castellano, the palace intrigue in the lyric of "The Alchemist," based on a story by H.P. Lovecraft, matches perfectly with the sinister music, and is a standout track. Jules Radino also contributes a song with the hard-rocking "There's A Crime." Mixed by master mix engineer Tom Lord-Alge, the album packs a punch and is extremely diverse yet continually rocks hard. Blue Öyster Cult is BACK! Both Dharma and Castellano share lead guitar duties, weaving in and around each other, their personal styles representing both the classic melodic and modern styles of guitar playing. The album is available on CD, 2xLP, Limited Edition Color 2xLP (white vinyl has limited remaining copies), and Digital formats. Video for "The Alchemist" premieres! Fourth Video from the new album "The Symbol Remains"—both released today! Along with the release of "The Symbol Remains" comes the fourth video—"The Alchemist" is a song written by Eric Bloom and Richie Castellano, and portrays the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name. Featuring Eric Bloom on the lead vocal, and a twin guitar volley between Richie Castellano and Buck Dharma, the song fits in perfectly with the best of Blue Öyster Cult's songs. The album is available on CD, 2xLP, Limited Edition Color 2xLP, and Digital formats. Click here to order "The Symbol Remains" September 25, 2020. It’s that time of year again. Husbands and boyfriends everywhere will be flooding the stores on February 13 th gathering up boxes of chocolates, roses, teddy bears, and whatever else their significant others may desire. Valentine’s Day is a time for couples to show their appreciation for each other and for retail stores to have another opportunity to capitalize on love-stricken individuals. If chocolates and flowers don’t appeal to that special person in your life, check out our list of fourteen alluring blues love songs to get them in the mood. Layla. An all-time classic 70’s hit by Eric Clapton and his band Derek and the Dominos. Clapton was inspired by an ancient Arabian love story and poem by a Persian poet. It is also assumed that his love for Pattie Boyd, then married to George Harrison may have added to his inspiration for the tune. Do you know who’s ripping it on the slide guitar? Love in Vain. This heavily covered, long-standing blues tune was originally written by the traditional bluesman himself, Robert Johnson in 1939. The song is about “unrequited love, using a departing train as a metaphor for loss” which countless blues musicians have done since. Other notable versions of the song include the Rolling Stones, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, and Keb’ Mo’. At Last. I know that most of you, if not singing this song at the top of your lungs already, are imagining Etta James’ sultry vocals belting out this soul-blues classic. The song was originally written for films and was performed by Glenn Miller and his orchestra in the 1940’s. Sweet Little Angel. Known by other names like “Sweet Black Angel” or “Black Angel Blues,” this blues standard has been performed and recorded by many musicians throughout the years, starting with Lucille Bogan in 1930. Other big names in blues like Buddy Guy, Tampa Red, Earl Hooker, and most popularly, B.B. King all have incredible renditions of the song. I Can’t Quit You Baby. A great blues tune that was written by the highly influential Willie Dixon who wrote some of the most popular blues songs of all time. His songs helped to bridge a gap between rock and blues when a lot of artists like Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Jeff Beck, and other bands started covering his songs. “I Can’t Quit You Baby” was famously covered by Led Zeppelin on their debut album. I Just Want To Make Love To You. Another hit blues song originally written by Willie Dixon in 1954. The great bluesman Muddy Waters first recorded the song as “Just Make Love to Me” which went on to dominate the R&B charts. Other notable covers are by Etta James and the blues-rock band Foghat. Asking Around For You. Although he is known for his fiery, ripping blues solos, blues-rock titan Joe Bonamassa has a softer side and delivers incredibly moving ballads. “Asking Around For You” is an incredible original ballad featured on the 2006 album You & Me. This is a must-listen for any Joe fan! All That I Need. Tedschi Trucks Band are unstoppable and redefining the blues-jam genre with every album they release. “All That I Need” is a great touching love song featured on their 2013 album Made Up Mind. Big Mama’s Blues (My Love) Strait from the powerhouse vocalist herself, Big Mama Thornton whose deep overpowering vocals will resonate with you long after you turn off the track. This great track features the great Muddy Waters on guitar! Wonderful Tonight. This standout and widely popular blues ballad was written by the one and only Eric Clapton in 1977. Where “Layla” was loosely based off his love for Pattie Boyd, this song was undeniably about her. The song is still a go to ballad and went Platinum in multiple countries. Love Blues. Keb’ Mo’ is one of those few artists that has stayed true to his original blues roots ever since he came on the scene in 1980. This straight acoustic blues love song is a perfect representation on how pure his music is. Slow Hot and Sweaty. A different version of a love song from the Southern Blues band JJ & Mofro. This song pretty much speaks for itself… I’m Gonna Find Another You. John Mayer will continue to be one of the blues guitarists that purists will debate against. Either way you feel about him, he is a fabulous musician who has written many hit tracks. “I’m Gonna Find Another You” is a song that most people who have been dumped can relate with and is a great blues song at that. Dolly Dagger. Here comes Dolly Dagger Her love’s so heavy, gonna make you stagger. Dolly Dagger, she drinks her blood from a jagged edge… Ah Drink up baby. You may have never heard this gem by Hendrix, but it is a great track that was the last Hendrix single to show up on the Billboard top charts. The tune was released in 1971 on the posthumous album Rainbow Bridge. The song was written about Hendrix’s troubled relationship with girlfriend Devon Wilson and an incident where she sucked Mick Jagger’s blood after he cut himself with a knife.
