The presiding deity of the temple is the Mother Goddess popularly known as Punnakkal Bhagavathy. The Mother is believed to have come from a place called Oliyolakkavu and manifested in her divine form at Ajanur. The festival celebrates the power of the Goddess and is a way of offering prayers and seeking her blessings. The temple is said to be over 400 years old. Local Over 3000 RELEVANCE- NO. OF PEOPLE (Local / National / International) PARTICIPATED EVENTS/PROGRAMS DESCRIPTION (How festival is celebrated) The festival starts with a ritualistic ceremony called Deepavum Thiriyum Konduvaral from the Madiyankoolom Deepavum Thiriyum Temple. The festival is an ensemble of various rituals and Konduvaral traditional ceremonies. The Poovum Ariyum Kodukkal is one Poovum Ariyum Kodukkal such unique ritual. Traditionally dressed little girls carrying Procession decorated Thalams are a visual treat. The holy weapon of Ilaneerattam the deity is taken out as a procession. Ilaneerattam is a Annadanam special event in which the deity is taken for a holy dip in the Kalathilariyidal river. Annadam or free food serving is organized for all Arangu Parikkal devotees in connection with the festival. Kalathilariyidal and Arangu Parikkal marks the end of the festival..
