Revision and New Data of the Ammonite Family Pseudotissotiidae Revision and new data of the ammonite family Pseudotissotiidae in the Iberian Trough, Spain Re´vision et nouvelles donne´es de la famille d’ammonites Pseudotissotiidae dans le Bassin Ibe´rique, Espagne Revisio´n y nuevos datos de la familia de ammonites Pseudotissotiidae en el Surco Ibe´rico, Espan˜a Fernando Barroso-Barcenilla *, Antonio Goy Departamento y UEI de Paleontolog´ıa, Facultad de Ciencias Geolo´gicas e Instituto de Geolog´ıa Econo´mica, CSIC - Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Ciudad Universitaria, 28040 Madrid, Spain Abstract The ammonites assigned to the family Pseudotissotiidae of the Wiedmann (Tu¨bingen, Germany) and Goy, Carretero and Mele´ndez (Madrid, Spain) collections obtained from the Iberian Trough have been revised. New, mainly lower Turonian, specimens of the species Pseudotissotia sp., Choffaticeras (Choffaticeras) quaasi (Peron, 1904), C. (C.) pavillieri (Pervinquie`re, 1907), C. (C.) segne (Solger, 1903), C. (C.) sinaiticum (Douville´, 1928), C. (Leoniceras) luciae (Pervinquie`re, 1907), C. (L.) barjonai (Choffat, 1898), Wrightoceras llarenai (Karrenberg, 1935), W. munieri (Per vinquie`re, 1907), W. submunieri Wiedmann, 1975b, and Donenriquoceras forbesiceratiforme Wiedmann, 1960, have been also presented. In addition, we designate and refigure the lectotype of Pseudotissotia (Leoniceras) alaouitense Basse, 1937, and refigure the lectotype of P. barjonai Choffat, 1898. Studies on the morphologies and the geographical and temporal distributions of all of these species have led to the identification of several phylogenetic relationships between them, and to distinguish four main phases in the evolution of the family, characterized by the successive dominance of Choffaticeras (Choffaticeras), Choffaticeras (Leoniceras), Donenriquoceras and Wrightoceras with Donenriquoceras. # 2007 Elsevier Masson SAS. Introduction do Instituto Geolo´gico e Mineiro of Lisboa, Portugal, and in the Muse´e National d’Histoire Naturelle of Paris, France. This paper first presents a revision of ammonites assigned to From a stratigraphical point of view, the ammonites the family Pseudotissotiidae Hyatt, 1903, from the Iberian presented herein have been mainly collected from the Margas Trough that are currently held in the Institut und Museum fu¨r de Puentedey (Floquet et al., 1982) and Margas de Picofrentes Geologie und Pala¨ontologie (GPI), Tu¨bingen, Germany and the (Floquet et al., 1982) formations, deposited respectively in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Madrid, Spain. inner and in the marginal environments of the platform. These These centres hold the Wiedmann, Goy, Carretero and Mele´ndez formations are remarkable for containing the most complete palaeontological collections, which include most of the and characteristic marls of the studied interval in the entire Pseudotissotiidae specimens from the mentioned palaeogeo- north and centre of Spain, as pointed out by Wiedmann (1960, graphical region. Subsequently, a detailed taxonomic analysis 1964, 1975a, 1975b, 1979), Wiedmann and Kauffman (1978), has been made of the members of this family obtained during Floquet et al. (1982), Floquet (1991), Santamar´ıa-Zabala (1991, fieldwork carried out for this investigation. The fieldwork took 1992, 1995) and Segura et al. (1993), among others. The study place in the upper Cenomanian and lower Turonian outcrops of these formations is highly convenient, as the biostratigraphic situated in the localities of Puentedey and Soncillo, in the north of and taxonomic information obtained from them allow inferring the province of Burgos, of Fuentetoba, in the centre of Soria, and the evolutionary pattern followed by the Pseudotissotiidae of Cantalojas, Galve de Sorbe, Condemios, Somolinos and family during the early Turonian in the Iberian Trough. Tamajo´n, in the north of Guadalajara, Spain (Fig. 1). Finally, the information obtained has made it possible to reach several conclusions concerning the taxonomy, distribution and evolution 2. Historical background of the pseudotissotiids. In order to establish a more precise systematic classification From the beginning of the 20th century, many ammonites of the taxa being dealt with, the first author has also studied the have been collected from the upper Cenomanian and lower original types attributed to this family that are held in the Museu Turonian, not only in the Iberian Trough but also in the whole of Spain, and assigned to Pseudotissotiidae Hyatt, 1903, by several authors. However, only a few detailed taxonomic studies of them have ever been carried out, since only a few specimens have been described and illustrated appropriately. Among the first systematic analysis concerning the palaeontology of the upper Cenomanian and lower Turonian cephalopods in the north of Spain, that of Karrenberg (1935) is the most noteworthy. He described many new species and mentioned several ammonite taxa, some of which can be attributed to this family. Some years later, Bataller (1950) published a synopsis on new species from the Cretaceous of Spain in which many ammonite taxa were mentioned and, among them, one pseudotissotiid. After collecting and studying a large number of cephalopods from the Upper Cretaceous of the Iberian Trough, Wiedmann (1960, 1964) identified numerous ammonite species. He described several new taxa from the Celtiberic and Vascogotic Fig. 1. Geographic provenance of the specimens presented in this paper. North-Castilian Sector and the Outer Navarro-Cantabrian Platform, respectively. Among the obtained specimens, contrasted with the ones obtained in other regions of the Iberian Wiedmann cited an important number of representatives of Trough by Barroso-Barcenilla, Goy and Segura (manuscript in the family. Later, Wiedmann (1975a) described some review), who presented a new ammonite zonation of the upper cephalopods from the La Demanda Area, citing some members Cenomanian and lower Turonian in the Iberian Trough, and of Pseudotissotiidae. In this same year, from the ammonite identified several species assigned to the Pseudotissotiidae. sequences obtained in the Upper Cretaceous of the Central Likewise, in the latest years, several biostratigraphic Sector, Wiedmann (1975b) obtained several pseudotissotiids investigations were carried out in other palaeogeographical and proposed

REYMENT, B.Sc. Geological Survey Department, Nigeria Abstract THREE NEW AMMONITE GENERA AND A NUMBER OF AMMONITE SPECIES ARE DESCRIBED from the Turonian and Coniacian of Nigeria. The new genera are Onitshoce,.as of Desmoceratidae, Kamerunoceras of Collignoniceratidae and Ezilloella of Vasco ceratidae. Some new species of Pseudaspidoceras Hyatt, Gombeoceras Reyment, Pachyvascoce,.as Furon and Solgerites Reeside are recorded. A discussion of the family Vascoceratidae appears. · Introduction IN A RECENT PAPER (Reyment, 1954) some new genera of Lower Turonian ammonites from Nigeria were established and their types and a few other species briefly described. The present paper contains descriptions of two further species of one of these new genera and of species of associated genera that have a wide distribution in both southern and northern Nigeria. Three new genera from the Turonian and Coniacian of southern Nigeria and the Cameroons are treated. This paper also includes a brief discussion of the family Vascoceratidae which provides an important element of the Lower Turonian faunas of many areas in Africa, Europe, Asia and North and South America. Both this and the previous work are preliminary to a larger review of the Upper Cretaceous-ammonites of southern Nigeria that is in active preparation;· but whose publication will in,evitably be delayed. Mean while, it is hoped that the new gehera described below and the informa tion on taxonomy and phylogeny becoming a\7ailable from studies of the Nigerian faunas will be of value both to palaeontologists and strati graphers.

Acta Geologica Polonica, 66 (4), 729–736. Warszawa. An unusual, exotic, ammonite fauna including Romaniceras mexicanum Jones, 1938, Prionocyclus hyatti (Stanton, 1894) and Coilopoceras cf. springeri Hyatt, 1903 is recorded from the late Middle Turonian of Vau- cluse and Gard, southern France. It is the first record of this ammonite association outside the Gulf Coast region and the Western Interior of the United States of North America. Up to present, these species were con- sidered as endemic to the Western Interior sea-way.

Palaont., Abh., 203: 1-21; Stuttgart. Abstract: Phylogenetic analysis of Euomphaloceratinae COOPER, 1978, a group within highly diversified and heterogeneous Acanthocerataceae, indicates a fundamental dichotomy which suggests promotion of this taxon to family rank with recognition of two subfamilies. Nominate Euomphaloceratinae comprise E. (Euomphaloceras), E. (Kanabiceras), Burroceras, Paraburroceras, P. (Pseudaspidoceras), P. (Ampakabites), and Morrowites, and Romaniceratinae subfam. nov. is made up of Schindewo/fites, Kameruno ceras, Codazziceras, Proromaniceras (Proromaniceras), P. (Obiraceras), Neomphaloceras, Yubariceras and Romaniceras (?with Shuparoceras as a subgenus). • Phylogeny, Diversity, and Ecology of the Ammonoid Superfamily Acanthoceratoidea Through the Cenomanian and Turonian
PHYLOGENY, DIVERSITY, AND ECOLOGY OF THE AMMONOID SUPERFAMILY ACANTHOCERATOIDEA THROUGH THE CENOMANIAN AND TURONIAN DAVID A.A. MERTZ A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE August 2017 Committee: Margaret Yacobucci, Advisor Andrew Gregory Keith Mann © 2017 David Mertz All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Margaret Yacobucci Both increased extinction and decreased origination, caused by rising oceanic anoxia and decreased provincialism, respectively, have been proposed as the cause of the Cenomanian Turonian (C/T) extinction event for ammonoids. Conflicting evidence exists for whether diversity actually dropped across the C/T. This study used the ammonoid superfamily Acanthoceratoidea as a proxy for ammonoids as a whole, particularly focusing on genera found in the Western Interior Seaway (WIS) of North America, including Texas. Ultimately, this study set out to determine 1) whether standing diversity decreased across the C/T boundary in the WIS, 2) whether decreased speciation or increased extinction in ammonoids led to a drop in diversity in the C/T extinction event, 3) how ecology of acanthoceratoid genera changed in relation to the C/T extinction event, and 4) whether these ecological changes indicate rising anoxia as the cause of the extinction. In answering these questions, three phylogenetic analyses were run that recovered the families Acanthoceratidae, Collignoniceratidae, and Vascoceratidae. Pseudotissotiidae was not recovered at all, while Coilopoceratidae was recovered but reclassified as a subfamily of Vascoceratidae. Seven genera were reclassified into new families and one genus into a new subfamily. After calibrating the trees with stratigraphy, I was able to determine that standing diversity dropped modestly across the C/T boundary and the Early/Middle Turonian boundary.

CHAPTER III SiSTEMATIC DESCRIPTION CIUPTER III systematic description Section I : Mortonlceratinae Introduction : The ammonoid species described by Stoliczka under the group of Ammonites crlstatl were sub divided by him into species 1, Ammonites blanfordianus, 2, Ammonites inflatus, condollianus. ootatoorensis and corruptus, 3, Amnionites propinquus. 4. Ammonites obesus, 5. Ammonites se rratocarlnatus. 6, Ammonite s subtricarinatus. These were transferred by later workers e.g. Kossmat to Schloenbachia and its subgenera as : Schloenbachla (Tropitoldes) . S. (Prlnotropis) . S. (Peroniceras). S, (Munerlceras) etc. According to present ideas the above mentioned species have undergone further transfers and except those of the Inflata group, are placed under different subfamilies, viz. Peroniceratlnae, Mune rice rat inae, etc. These species are, therefore, not considered under the present section; but those of the Inflata group which are now found to belong to the sub family Mortonlceratinae are dealt with here. The species which represent this subfamily in the present collection, viz. Mortoniceras (Mortoniceras) inflatum (Sow.); M. (M.) rostratum (Sow.), Mortonioeras (Peiradoceras) indicum spo nov., M. (Purnovarites) perinflatum Spath., M. (p.) - 17 - - 18 - subquadratum Spath, M. (d .) sp. Indet; ?Mortonicera8 (?Mortoniceras) deshpandel sp, nov., Prohysteroceras (Goodhallltes) stoliczkal sp. nov. are dealt with here., Of these eight species Mortonlceras (Mortonlceras) inflatum was described by Stoliczka and Kossmat from these rocks. Three species viz. Mortoniceras (M.) rostratum (Sow.), M. (Durnovarites) perlnflatum Spath., M. (D .) subquadratum Spath. are species already known and are recorded from outside South Indian basin; they are now recorded here for the first time. The remaining species described here are new to science. The subfamily Mortoniceratinae has an interesting history, being used in the first instance by Spath (1925) to comprise species of texanum group of Senonian.

• Ammonite Faunal Dynamics Across Bio−Events During the Mid− and Late Cretaceous Along the Russian Pacific Coast
Ammonite faunal dynamics across bio−events during the mid− and Late Cretaceous along the Russian Pacific coast ELENA A. JAGT−YAZYKOVA Jagt−Yazykova, E.A. 2012. Ammonite faunal dynamics across bio−events during the mid− and Late Cretaceous along the Russian Pacific coast. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 57 (4): 737–748. The present paper focuses on the evolutionary dynamics of ammonites from sections along the Russian Pacific coast dur− ing the mid− and Late Cretaceous. Changes in ammonite diversity (i.e., disappearance [extinction or emigration], appear− ance [origination or immigration], and total number of species present) constitute the basis for the identification of the main bio−events. The regional diversity curve reflects all global mass extinctions, faunal turnovers, and radiations. In the case of the Pacific coastal regions, such bio−events (which are comparatively easily recognised and have been described in detail), rather than first or last appearance datums of index species, should be used for global correlation. This is because of the high degree of endemism and provinciality of Cretaceous macrofaunas from the Pacific region in general and of ammonites in particular.
