2. Data distribution policy for Earth Observation Satellites (revised in August, 2013)

Defined two categories as follow;

A. Data with Low or Middle resolution B. Data with High resolution

A. Data with Low or Middle resolution

i) In principle, the data with Low or Middle resolution such as earth environment monitoring data is distributed with “ full and open access” policy. ii) JAXA accepts non-discriminatory use and re- distribution of those satellite data by users.

A. Data with Low or Middle resolution

Following conditions remain unchanged  The data itself is free-of-charge (*: such as cost for media) Distribution cost* could be charged by JAXA  Registration is required for only direct distribution  Source of the data should be indicated

In general, the policy is applied to the distribution of standard data products. Data policies for other data products such as Level 0 data (raw data) and value added data products are determined respectively.

Data with High resolution i) Limited amount of data is provided to the user for the purpose of Disaster Management, Scientific Research, free of charge ii) Distribution with the marginal cost to government users under the cooperative agreement iii) Private business operator distribute data with commercial price

3. Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2)

ALOS-2 Data will be distributed under “full and open access” policy.

 JAXA will directly distribute the limited amount of data to agencies or organizations at the marginal cost or free-of- charge under cooperative agreement framework for the government’s disaster measures, other government inter- national cooperations and calibration & validation purposes.  JAXA will distribute limited amount of the data for Research Announcement (RA) users for scientific research use.  JAXA will distribute the data through a private business operator for general use.
