July/August 2018 Av/Elul 5778 3 The IsraeLight From the President’s Desk By Richard Freedman I am writing this as the summer solstice is about to begin. Summertime at Temple Israel Ner Tamid means that our esteemed Rabbi will be heading north to Alaska. He will spend the month of July resting, communing with nature and his family, and recharging his batteries. During his absence, Bill Droe, Joy Gray, Alan Miner, and Mark Siegel will each help Rachel lead a service. I thank these brave volunteers for going above and beyond in taking their turn on the bima. Remember, each of them needs some help. Your presence and voices will ease their burden. Please attend as many of these Shabbat services and you can. They will be fulfilling spiritually and you will have performed an act of gemilut chassidim. This act of kindness toward our volunteers will be rewarded. Save the date of August 10, 2018. We will combine our “Shabbat at Lakeside Yacht Club” service/boat ride event with an Open House designed to introduce our congregation to potential new members. Please see page 8 for details, and bring friends you think might be interested in joining TINT.
