EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Peter Physick

I’ve had the pleasure of writing fifteen of these Year Book reports as your President, but I doubt that any have filled me with more emotion than this one. Sadness is one feeling because it will be the last one, but more about that later.

The overriding sentiment I have is joy. Joy because East Coast didn’t die when it could have. The club is alive and very well indeed, thanks to a fantastic membership and supporter base who took it upon themselves to do everything in their power to ensure that our players had a place to call home. The outcome of all that massive work materialised on September 17th when Michael Sankey’s Premier Division side won the flag, with perhaps the most courageous performance I have yet seen. Mick writes in glowing terms from page 53 about how he saw the year unfold for him. It is a great read and very informative about how a season is viewed through coaching eyes.

The ultimate prize was secured and Sanks and the players should be as proud and excited as I know they really are. We all went crazy, but for me, holding the Cup there in the same changerooms where we had held three others years before, was more about the deliverance of a plan that had been like walking in a minefield for nearly three very long years. Take one wrong step at any time and bang you’ve disappeared.

The pride we should all have in that single achievement alone should never be forgotten, or lessened, by future success at the Eagles. 2016 should and must be remembered as the year in which a Footy club full of wonderful people achieved the impossible.

As Jon Gawley says in the Financial report on page 8, we are now very well positioned to steam ahead. Long term debt will be an issue for the club for another eight years, but thanks to the Fighting Fund contributors we are managing the repayment process beautifully. Revenue streams from partnerships with Vesta Homes, Stonemasons and Landscapers, Kanebridge, Mansfield Corporation, Jatec Transport, KFC, National Australia Bank and the Fiddler provide the source of all income required to run the club on a day to day basis. That, combined with player fees and catering income, means the club is in very good hands indeed.

However there remain many other opportunities which your Board of Directors will be looking closely at over the next 12 months. One such example is functions. We simply don’t hold enough of them. Not just from a revenue perspective either. The flip side is that we actually have a bloody good time at them and enjoying each other’s company is something we haven’t done enough of.

Further opportunities are on the field. Unfortunately in the lower grades we are paying the short term price of the NEAFL era where many players left for other clubs. Whilst it is every club’s goal to win a senior Premiership, we realise that every team needs to be successful and winning games. The Divisionalisation system which operates in Sydney football is now such that non Premier Division clubs have very strong First Grade sides. Not strong enough to be in the top division, but very strong when playing the Reserve Grade side of a Premier Div club. Similarly that strength differential then cascades itself down through the lower grades. 2017 should see some re-classification of where our teams play after discussions with the AFL.

As I write this, the national AFL Clubs are in the middle of “Trade Week”. These days much is made of clubs being in a re-building phase to win a premiership in perhaps three to five years. It is almost too transparent at times, but it happens. East Coast will have a strong Premier Division team again in 2017 and will be contending for further success, but significant planning and action must occur to capture the hearts and minds of kids aged 10-14 right now. To that extent you might be amazed to read David Hemmings’ story on page 35 about the Magpies Academy.

6

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

The Academy is in its second year now and going from strength to strength. In 2016 the kids formed a very special bond with the Eagles. Many of our players are coaching there under the tutelage of Academy Head coach Michael Sankey , who in 2016 had dual roles with East Coast and the Academy. In time, the majority of these kids will wear an Eagles jumper at some point within our club. It will start at U19 level when an avalanche of young men and women will roll into the club through the Academy via Kellyville-Rouse Hill Magpies, Baulkham Hills and other junior clubs in the area. The continuity of the Academy and its on-going effectiveness and success is critical to our future.

The footy club is in good hands thanks to the outstanding community minded people within it. We will grow exponentially in future years and recover to a position where things like building a Social Club at the ground can be put back on the drawing board again. Increasing player participation is assured, but for a few short years we may continue to struggle in the lower grades. However if we can manage our way through that period, I can certainly envisage success across the board in all teams.

I will not be standing for re-election as President at the AGM on December 14th. The time has come to pass the baton to my successor on that night. The ride has been remarkable since way back in 1996. So much has happened, so many initial setbacks. Reading back on various yearly reports like this one makes me realise just how far we have come. Despite the NEAFL saga, it has been great fun and an enormous learning experience for me every day I went to the footy. I’ve learnt just how much passion there is in football clubs. But always remember, that although passion keeps clubs alive, decisions on what to do next within the club must be made from the head, not the heart. Tough hard decisions simply make football clubs better and better. Just ask Alistair Clarkson.....

Special mentions. Jon Gawley. You have been outstanding in your service to the Club. It was recognised last year with a well deserved Life Membership, but you continued on this year as though your life depended on it. Thankyou for everything you have done.

Michael Sankey. Retiring as a Premiership coach is some feat. Congratulations on engineering such a marvellous season in 2016. May your creativity continue with the Academy.

Laima. What more can I say other than it’ll be wonderful to now spend more time with you!!

And thankyou (but not farewell) to everybody whose paths have crossed with mine through the last 24 years in Sydney footy. It’s all been wonderful fun, but this year meant more than any other I reckon....

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

I urge all Members and supporters to come to the East Coast Eagles AFL Football Club AGM on December 14th at the Fiddler to get this year’s Financial report. It will show a year on year result from the last two years back in Sydney footy. We have made great inroads and will continue to do so with the hard work and support of all involved with this great football club.

Finally I would like to make a few thankyous. Number one is to my wife Kristy for again allowing me to be involved with this great club. It is an effort of love and time where incalculable hours are given and so much time is spent away from the family. The footy club is a great passion of mine so to have their support makes things so much easier.

Secondly I would like to extend a special thank you to Carolyn Canda, our ever so reliable bookkeeper for her assistance on the accounts along with Joe and Vince from Financial Management Corporation for the compilation of the annual financial accounts.

Finally I would like to make one last thank you to Peter Physick who is stepping down from the Board at the forthcoming AGM. Peter is the last of what I call the three amigos who have put in countless hours to save this club. He has just concluded his 20th year on the Board, 15 of which were as our President and he can now retire from the Board knowing we are back on track and we are solvent. You are a great man Peter and you have been a massive asset to the club, but whilst you may retire for the last time from the Board, don’t think you won’t be utilised as I intend to liaise with you for advice.

OUR MOST VALUED PARTNERS

Jon Gawley

2016 saw the club come back for a second dig at redemption with some continued support from our partners from 2015.

Sam Ahvazi (c) and Joe Sat ar (r) from Vesta Homes celebrating the Premiership on Day.

Led by our major sponsor Vesta Homes , Joe Satar and Sam Ahvazi committed to another year with the Eagles, enjoying their newly loved passion for the club. This season saw them continue as the club’s major sponsor and got to enjoy firsthand our 2016 senior premiership when they had a wonderful day at the game and the post Grand Final celebrations. In great news, Vesta Homes have committed for years to come. Thank you Joe and Sam for the prolonged partnership.

2016 saw the acquisition of a new front of Jumper sponsor with Joe Mousa from Stonemasons and Landscapers coming on board as an Eagles partner. Thank you for your support Joe and for becoming involved with the Eagles in 2016.

Thank you to the following companies for their continued support. Bruce and Kathleen Mansfield from Mansfield Corporation who again partnered the club through their shorts sponsorship. Greg Fisher again ensured the KFC logo was pre- eminent on the field through their ball sponsorship, in addition to their significant help for our scholarship funding. Jatec Trucking through Troy and Jane Barlow were again our main off field polo sponsor. Thank you everybody for the commitment again during our 2016 season which has helped make the club stronger and stronger.

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

The Fiddler continued its partnership with the Eagles by providing its iconic brand and watering hole to the club. We urge everybody to secure a co - branded Eagles-Fiddler membership card and furnish it during every transaction you have with the Hotel. The benefits to East Coast can be immense if harnessed properly. It was fantastic to have the support of the Fiddler to celebrate the 2016 premiership vi ctory and the celebrations continued long into the night.

This year the NAB Introducer program grew to greater heights as well with a number of members and supporters taking advantage of the financial loans and offerings the NAB can provide. The Club ga ins a benefit every time you transact a loan through the NAB. See me (Jon Gawley) whenever you may be thinking of commencing a loan, or re-financing an existing one.

A special thank you to the following for the ir support via the program: Nathan and Briony Halliday, Philip and Renee Bester, Paul and Megan Meyer, Michael and Stacy Sankey, Brad and Jill Turner and Rodney & Nicole (soon to be) Frost. The benefit from the loans taken out has helped the club immensely for the 2016 season.

We have also now committed to BLK as the club’s new apparel sponsor for the next few years where our on and off field clothing will all be supplied by BLK. A special thank you to Tyron Brant and Simon Healy who have endured a very trying year but “they delivered” even after multiple cyclones and flooding in Fiji which impacted their operations. We look forward to running out proudly with BLK for a number of years to come.

To Marwan and the team at Kanebridge, it’s great to have your backing once again, selling units at “Ba ck to Baulko” and committing to an extension of the naming rights for the oval to 2019. It’s a huge win for all parties involved and we look forward to the continued partnership for the upcoming years.

Paper Rolls Australia and Rodney Frost . Thank you for the scholarship sponsorships, the ever reliable printing of raffle tickets, player photos compilation for grand final day, the Year Book printing and your outstanding promotion of the hugely successful “Back to Baulko” day. . To our BBQ sponsor A & I Auto Group. Thank you to Ian and Andrew Heathcote for sponsoring the BBQ; it’s a great help to the club and appreciated. It again helped the Eagle burgers and pan cakes continue for the 2016 season. Having an 80 year old BBQ chef as your Dad is a great effor t and one we hope to see for many years to come.

Ryan McGlenaghan and the folk at Micron Manufacturing and Neil Webster and his team from Mills Shopfitting and Display . Hope you enjoyed the hospitality of the day.

Also the Fighting Fund donors deserve a mention. This is a fund set up to help the club pay off debt and we have again been lucky to achieve this well before our due date, thanks to the following people. Chris Baddock, Peter and Laima Physick, Jon Gawley, Jon Vlatko, Mark and Peta Pinchen, Paul and Tracey Stewart, Richard & Colleen Lee, Rudi Bylsma and the winning footy tipster Ron Koutchavlis . More thanks to Andrew Browning (AB) who, with his team of helpers, held some fundraising events this year. The IPOD shuffle night and the Sydney Harbour cruise being the highlights. Next season we will also look forward to getting back to more major events with an increased focus on this as a way of generating more income towards the club.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Club. No matter how small or how large, everything counts to help us achieve what we aimed for. The 2016 Premiership. 2017 now brings on new challenges and goals and as a club we will aim to better ourselves even further.

FACILITIES

Paul Meyer

Kanebridge Oval was once again in high demand this year with the four Eagles’ teams, Masters, AFL9’s, Kellyville Magpies Academy, Kellyville Magpies Juniors’ teams, Auskick, numerous school sports bookings and GWS Giants school programs through the week. We will continue to plan and work with the respective bodies to ensure no conflicts and continual availability.

We requested part way through the season to run the Kellyville Junior games length ways (up and down the wings) due to the inside 50 getting chewed up. This helped the ground recover and the juniors now actually prefer it, as it is better viewing for the parents.

With all that use I believe the ground held up really well and potentially better than last year.

Our special thanks once again go to Simone Francké who, as Council’s full time grounds person, maintains the venue in such terrific condition. Without question Simone deserves all the praise we can possibly heap upon her.

The Scoreboard It needed some TLC work at the start of the season (as usual), and then finally the bearings packed it on the shutters.

Council arranged to replace the shutters with new ones, but unfortunately they don’t mix well with wind. First strong wind day, they popped out of the side rails…now one catches when it is lowered. They also have a tendency to make a bit of noise as there is a weather shield on the inside that slaps against the front of scoreboard when the wind swirls around inside. Council are aware and are talking to the installer.

The vibrations caused a connector to fall off inside and stopped the scoring laptop from talking to it on the finals weekend. We also upgraded the scoring laptop and included a receiving laptop for the coaches box. This is a cleaner setup with less wiring.

Ground lights These were taken down for repair during the off season for full rewiring to be done and broken lamps replaced. Alas some have since failed (blown globe or shattered glass) Council’s feedback is that “its wear and tear”….

Changerooms Footlockers were put in and discussions of Honour Boards and sprucing up the rooms took place in the first half of the season but I think footy took over and these plans are on hold.

The Kellyville Magpies changed their drinks supplier through the season and received a new fridge for the canteen, so we took possession of the old one and installed it in the home rooms. (Thanks Fitto for the electrical work).

14

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

Council were notified many times of the leaking roof in the changerooms and sent people out to rectify it but without success. Took a couple of club chippies to realise the roof sheets were overlapping incorrectly….

The Eagles Nest

While it was a quite year for the nest, the timber frame support for the tarp was a success during Back to Baulko day, It will come down in the off season but surely make a comeback next year.

Hill Extension Council is continuing with the earthworks to extend the hill around the northern goals. It seems they add soil and then remove it, so it’s

a slow process.

Council Equipment Shed Construction for Simone’s new pad (equipment room) has commenced. We have asked council about the future of the existing maintenance room and hinted it would make great storage for the Eagles. We await a decision.

We are in discussion with cricket on access to Kanebridge to commence pre-season training in mid-late November 2016. As a backup we have booked Charlie Mac Monday - Thursday 6.00pm to 8.00pm. Looking forward to a great 2017

CATERING

Richard Lee

The season started in March for the Catering department with a visit from the Payneham Football Club for a practice match at Kelso Oval. We showed our usual standard of friendly hospitality with both the SA boys and our lads devouring the salad rolls a nd drinks that we provided.

The home and away season got off to a full start at Kanebridge Oval on April 16th, the day after Colleen and I left for a five week holiday in Europe. Paul Meyer (Super human) offered to look after the canteen in my absence and as we have come to expect, Paul did a fantastic job of keeping things in order and running smoothly. Chloe Meyer, Tracey Stewart, Laima Physick, Trevor Hangan and Rudi Bylsma saw to it that the canteen looked after the supporters and players on match days.

Once again, Ron and Barb Heathcote , assisted by Jon Gawley, Pete Physick and a host of others ensured that there was plenty of bacon, eggs, sausages, steaks, hamburgers and the world famous Eagle Burgers. The Eastman Family Coffee Truck ensured that th ose who needed a caffeine hit were well looked after. Richard and Colleen Lee

As a result of the hard work of these dedicated helpers we lived up to our well deserved reputation as the best canteen in Sydney footy throughout the season.

“Back to Baulko” was once again the h ighlight of the year. A lot of preparation goes into this event, but it is worth every bit of effort. Everyone enjoyed themselves and a healthy profit ensured that the Treasurer had a smile on his face. It is always good to see the “old faces”, and I pred ict that as time goes on this event will continue to grow in stature.

Once again, we did not poison anyone and the comments from the visiting supporters and players were always positive. We met budget, which helps a lot, and everyone contributed to a fun environment. Rudi’s Raffle raised plenty of funds and Tracey’s Footy collected lots of change from the customers for the Fighting Fund.

Thanks to all of those who helped out. A special thanks goes to Paul Meyer of course for his fantastic work in the fir st half of the season and to Colleen who is always there supporting and helping.

The ever smiling Ron Heathcote

ECE COTERIE CLUB

Richard Lee

“Many years ago there was what most called “the little white bag”. This bag accumulated money from various activities, most of which was sharing a few beers at training amongst die-hard Falcons, now Eagles’ supporters. Each year the bag covered the expense of small items on behalf of the Football Club.

In 2009 the “little white bag” was suitably formalised into the Eagles’ Coterie Club and although the bag is still traditionally used to collect money at each event, the Coterie is now much more structured in its support role to the Football Club.”

The Coterie Club struggled to gain traction again this season. Peter Physick and I spent a good deal of the season overseas which meant that the organisational will was lacking. The Club’s supporter base continues to grow as witnessed at the Premier Division Grand Final , but folks don’t come down to training anymore. Some years back people came to the ground to see what was happening, pick up the latest gossip and enjoy the camaraderie. With more and more people living their lives through social media , I guess the need for, or the desire to get out and mingle is waning.

We will push on regardless and we will continue the sale of Dim Sims and refreshments at training sessions. I said last year that we would organise a Coterie Social event, but alas that did not happen. Maybe next year.

I can only encourage everyone to get on board and show your support for our fantastic East Coast Eagles Football Club.

The ECE Coterie Club is “The Friends of the ECE” so we are all eligible to join and help the Footy Club.

2016 PHELAN MEDALLIST – JACK DIMERY

The Phelan Medal is awarded by the umpires to the Fairest & Best player in the Premier Division of Sydney football. Jack played just 13 games this year and polled 17 votes to win by one from UTS’ Jai Lyons with North Shore’s Sam Carruthers in third spot. The Eagles were well represented on the main board with Kieran Emery 4th, Andrew McConnell 7th and Dean Costello home in 9th.

Jack started his career with the Eagles in 2008 aged 15, playing U18 footy with Peter Steer’s squad. Coming straight from the Baulkham Hills junior club, JD started in the Eagles’ Challenge Cup team and after just three games there Steery saw the emerging talent and he was immediately promoted to the U18 Premier Cup team, as it was known in 2008. Jack went on to become an integral member of that side’s September Grand Final against North Shore.

In 2009, Glenn Garner invited JD to undertake a full pre-season with the senior squad, a decision which clearly paid enormous dividends as he went on to play 19 Premier Division games out of a possible 20. The 19th time he pulled on an Eagles jumper that season was in the Grand Final and he was able to hang a Premiership medal around his still 16 year old neck. Jack finished 11th in the Club Champion Trophy with 36 votes and was the sponsored Rising Star for 2009.

By this stage others were beginning to recognise the Dimery kid’s talent. Representative duties only permitted Jack to play 11 games in 2010, however as most Eagles’ fans are sure to know, the last game of the season was a Back to Back Premiership win and JD loomed as a large presence in that side. It was also in 2010 that Geelong offered Jack a two year scholarship which would enable them to monitor future development for a possible future priority draft choice. In December of 2010 he turned 18 and could now legally celebrate his Back to Back Premierships wins during the summer with a quiet drink.

18

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

In 2011 he played in 18 of the possible 20 matches and was still yet to play a Reserve Grade match. Or, believe it or not, poll a Phelan Medal vote in the 48 matches of his First Grade career so far! His third senior Premiership arrived this season with a stunning display of power football in a dominant Eagles side that tore Balmain apart. Good judges thought so as well, when Jack was awarded the Rod Podbury Medal for “best on” in the Grand Final. At Presentation night JD stood on the podium when he finished third in the Eagles’ Club Champion voting.

2012, 13 and 14 were years in which Jack had the opportunity to get noticed when the Eagles entered their senior team in the new NEAFL competition. Playing regularly against the Swans, Giants, Lions and Suns’ Reserve Grade teams, along with very strong club sides from Queensland, NT and the ACT meant that players were under extreme pressure to perform in the hope of impressing the band of AFL recruiters who followed these matches religiously.

During the three years of the NEAFL Jack notched up another 50 First Grade Eagles’ matches to take his career tally up to 107 by the end of 2014, which was the last time the Club entered a team into this contest. However his dream of being drafted was not happening.

The Eagles returned to the AFL Sydney Premier Division in 2015 and another highly consistent 18 games rolled out from under the Dimery boots. Not only that, but he came within a whisker of becoming the Club Champion when Trent Stubbs pipped him by 68-63 votes.

Somewhere in JD’s sometimes complex mind was still the idea of being drafted. “Just how can I get that done”, he must have asked himself a dozen times. Towards the back end of 2015 he secretly put his name forward to Foxtel for inclusion in the possibles list to be considered as a final candidate for The Recruit on Fox 8. He held his breath as his name continued to remain on the producers’ paperwork, as others were regularly banished from it.

Suddenly he was in the final 100, then 40 and to his eternal credit our Jack did enough to sneak into the final 15 ready for the show. Now it was up to him. But the Eagles would lose him for a reasonable part of the 2016 season. Just how long would depend upon his progress in The Recruit.

He turned up out of the blue one day from Melbourne just in time to be included in the Round 5 side against St George and starred in that game. As he did in many to follow for the 2016 season. He played the next eleven matches and this time the umpires noticed Jack’s true flair and talent which had been truly enhanced by the nine weeks spent with Mick Malthouse, Ben Dickson and Darren Burgess during the show.

On Sept the 12th Jack Dimery won the 2016 Phelan Medal. Although players say it is “just an individual award” , this time it was a true reward for the kid from Baulkham Hills who is now aged 23 and mature beyond his years.

Recipient of the Eagles Award at the 2016 Club Champion Night for his wonderful year in footy.

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

2016 PLAYER LIFE MEMBERS

Even though their games played at the Baulkham Hills Junior AFL Club do not count in any way for Eagles Player Life Membership qualification, it’s just wonderful to realise that our three inductees for 2016 all came out of the Baulkham Hills Junior Footy Club.

Our first inductee is Rowan Bilkey who, on Saturday May 7th 2016, played his 150th First Grade game against the UTS Bats at Kanebridge Oval.

“Bilks” has had an interrupted career with East Coast since joining the club straight from Baulkham Hills. If it wasn’t for stints living in the USA, the UK and New Zealand, there would be no doubt that his name would be above Jon Vlatko who currently sits at the top of the First Grade games played table.

Rowan has announced his retirement from football and he leaves the Club as a four time Premiership player, with 158 Premier and NEAFL matches, 189 Eagles matches in total and we can’t forget his time with Baulkham Hills because when those games are included, it takes his overall match tally to 318.

Rowan Bilkey Our second Player Life Member is Jared Madden .

Jared is the youngest of the famous Madden family with older brothers “Dog” and “Bow Wow”, so it’s no surprise that he got “Pup” as he grew up. The name Pup certainly stuck, as indeed Jared has to the Eagles..... to the point where on Saturday August 6th 2016 against Mac Uni on Kanebridge Oval he played his 200th Eagles game in any grade and qualified for Player Life Membership at East Coast.

He has now played 201 Eagles games and a phenomenal 389 for East Coast and Baulkham Hills combined.

Our third Player Life Member is the man Jared Madden with a heart of gold and a pillar of the footy Club – Jared Patira .

Coincidently it was Saturday May 7th on Kanebridge Oval against UTS in Division One that JP qualified for Life Membership - the same day as Bilks did in Premier Division.

A fabulous person to have around the footy club, Jared is still playing great footy and now takes his total Eagles games tally to 210, of which 16 have been in Premier Division. When we Jared Patira add in his junior games at Baulkham Hills, he has now played 266 Club games.

The President’s Award was created to recognise the significant contribution to the Club’s wellbeing, by individuals who give more than could ever be asked for. In a Club the size of East Coast, there are always any number of candidates who would be worthy winners. But each year someone always stands out …

Paul Meyer Never before has one man done so much. You could create any award in our footy club and name it what you like and Paul would be a chance of winning it.

What a perfect Facilities Manager. If anything breaks, he can fix it. The scoreboard found that out many times in 2016. As did the PA system. If the ground needs re-marking on a wet day at the footy, he gets it done. No questions asked. If the flood lights need care and attention, he gives it. If the Catering Manager goes overseas on holidays for six weeks, Paul puts his hand up to ensure the players and crowd are kept happy and content with hot food and drink inside them on match day.

If the entire collection of Eagles’ apparel at Kanebridge Oval, or in Trev’s lock-up, needs a stock take, he offers to make sure it happens. If the whole complex at Kanebridge needs to be re- keyed he convinces Council that it would be a good idea and it happens. His beloved Third Grade side needed a Team Manager at the start of the season. “That’s OK” said Paul “I can make time. I’ll do it. Oh and if you’re short any week, I can play as well.” (He finished up playing 10 games and finished 12th in the B&F.) He created the wondrous place called the “Eagles Nest” on scoreboard hill where he relaxes with the Third Grade lads. For about five minutes that is, until he thinks of something else that must be done for his beloved footy club. Like running the boundary for late afternoon Division One games.

Vote counts on Club Champion Night at East Coast have always been video productions since Aber’s days. “We must keep that tradition up” said Paul. “I’ll make them ”. I’ll have time in between my secretary duties for the Redback Masters footy club.” And I haven’t yet mentioned that he’s also a Director of the East Coast Eagles and has put plenty of time into the resurrection of the Club along with his fellow Directors.

His wife Megan (who he sees from time to time) and East Coast are lucky to be able to call Paul Meyer their own.

A club is only as good as its people. Be they players, coaches, administrators, managers or supporters. We have many such people at East Coast who happily provide their assistance in a variety of ways. Some do it financially, others do it with time. Some do it with both.

The Stewart Family

Tracey, Paul and Tom all do their thing for the Eagles without ever so much as a winge, or a second thought. They are all equal in their contribution to and love for their footy club and its people. The family are very worthy winners of the Clubperson(s) of the Year Award for 2016.

Tommy would rather be playing on the halfback flank, but a skateboard accident last summer rendered his left arm incapable of anything, let alone marking a footy. After the first operation he started running laps ready to resume mid year but the arm didn’t heal, so a second op was the only choice. That meant his entire season was now totally free to volunteer for whatever the coaches and the matchday staff wanted him him to do. And he did plenty.

As the Club statistician Paul keeps meticulous records of all games and milestones across all teams. When not tinkering with the numbers, he can be found every week between the posts and goal umpiring any game that requires his proficiency with two white flags.

Everybody knows Tracey because everyone has been photographed by Tracey. What was a hobby is now serious business as her expertise with the camera and lens grows by the day. Her photos of the footy and in particular the images of Eagles’ supporters, are legendary on Facebook every Saturday night where they create enormous interest and comment after being posted. Indeed the majority of photos in this Year Book are from Tracey’s camera and we are so grateful for her infectious enthusiasm ...... and for marrying Paul and producing Tom!

CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR

Perpetual trophy donated by Tint•a•Car Norwest

In the past this award had always automatically gone to the winner of the Best & Fairest trophy in First Grade. The Club Executive chose to introduce revised assessment criteria from 1999 onwards, thus allowing any East Coast player to win. This trophy will now be awarded to that player who displays exemplary form both on and off the field in relation to overall Club contribution. Up until and including 2006, this award was titled “Footballer of the Year”.

All footy clubs across Australia have fine people. People who make it their mission in life to ensure that “their club” is the best. The Eagles are no different to any other.

Blake Jones

Blake is the type of person that every footy club has at least one of. If clubs are lucky, they will have more than one, just like we do at the Eagles. We are very grateful for all those players who so willingly help out.... and often without being asked.

I can’t recall Blake ever being asked to do anything. Except for Saturday May 6th when, as he lay prostrate on the stretcher in the medical room, he was asked to lie very still and do not touch, or move, the water bottle that was taped to his badly broken ankle until the ambulance arrived. Otherwise his foot may have dropped off; such was the severity of the break.

From that moment on, his season had ended and he became quite despondent with footy and must have wondered, why him? But self pity didn’t last long at all and as soon as he was able to move with the aid of crutches, Budda was back at Kanebridge Oval with his usual broad grin and happy nature. He couldn’t do much, but just having him around typified what this Award is all about. Every training night he was there and as his ankle progressively mended, his contribution to our success this year increased dramatically.

Before long he was out on the track doing whatever he thought necessary to improve the chances of all teams winning their next game. There’s no point in itemising what he did because the list would be too long for this page. Suffice to say his involvement was exactly what the players and coaching staff needed to ensure success. And on match days if he wasn’t running water, running messages or running the boundary, he was cooking at the BBQ or assisting Team Managers’ get their duties done.

Congratulations Blake and thanks for making East Coast such an inclusive club.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

“Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain.” Volunteering Australia – July 27th 2015

Like all awards at the Eagles the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year recognition is given considered and lengthy thought. All volunteers are extremely worthy and there are many at East Coast who could easily be chosen.

PREVIOUS WINNERS

2015 Trevor Hangan

Bronwyn Bailey

Bronwyn’s dedication to the East Coast Eagles is unsurpassed. Her roles are many and her enthusiasm is immense for getting the job, any job, done. She cares for “her Under 19s” like they are her own kids, she loves the “Divvy Three” boys and of course Premier Division and the Ressies are always in her heart. Whilst Bronwyn has her regular Match day duties such as the U19 Team Manager, timekeeping every game possible in every division, compiling and entering all match results into the AFL FootyWeb on-line program, she is also the Club registrar and happily tackles the tedious task of registering players. Not an easy job at all as anyone in that position would know.

Home game attendance is compulsory of course and both Bronwyn and hubby Garry are early arrivals at Kanebridge to ensure that pre-match set up is carried out in a timely manner. Laptops cover the timekeepers table. One to operate the scoreboard and the other to register new players if required and to also enter live score updates into FootyWeb throughout the day.

The other mandatory thing to do is to be at every away game, no matter the distance involved. To be with the 19’s of course and then get to wherever her own two boys Joseph and David are playing to watch them strut their stuff with the Eagles.

Training nights before home games always sees our Bron in attendance to tackle the task that no one else wants. The bathrooms need to be clean and tidy for opposition teams and supporters and that job is always completed with a smile every time.

A former joint President’s Award winner in 2014 with Garry, Bronwyn is now a most deserved recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award for 2016.

“A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.” Vince Lombardi

To be the best in your field is an enormous honour. The Eagles revere their heroes and it is a tribute to the talents, determination and work ethic of those who become our Club Champion each year.

Kieran Emery

Kieran arrived at the East Coast Eagles in season 2014 to play in the NEAFL. Initially he was recruited as a key forward / back up ruckman, however it was immediately apparent to the coaching staff that his best position would be at centre half back.

Kieran had a great first year playing on some of the competition’s best forwards and he finished fifth in the Eagles best and fairest, backing this up with another strong season in 2015, this time in the Sydney AFL, where once again he finished fifth in the Eagles’ B&F.

In season 2016, Kieran took his game to another level. Playing at centre half back he dominated throughout the season and was clearly the competition’s best backman. Such was Kieran’s dominance, the opposition would regularly attempt to tag him, including in this year’s Grand Final. His opponents would attempt to drag him out of the play and when they failed to do so they would simply try and stop him from getting the football. It is very rare that a CHB is tagged; however Kieran never lowered his colours. His elite kicking skills and strong marking ability make him an offensive weapon and the Eagles ensured that they used him as such.

In 2016, he averaged 23 disposals and 11 marks per game. Some of his standout games include R7 v Wests where he had 34 disposals and took 16 marks, R11 v UTS, 25 disposals and 10 marks, R12 v St George, 25 disposals, 12 marks and 3 goals, R14 v Manly 31 disposals and 17 marks, R16 v UNSWES, 39 disposals and 14 marks and of course the Grand Final. Although tagged in the GF he still managed to have 20 disposals and take 10 marks. He was rewarded with the Rod Podbury Medal for best on ground which is a medal normally awarded to midfielders or forwards.

From the moment he arrived Kieran has been an outstanding person and one of the most liked and respected at the Eagles. He travels from Maroubra to get to training and never misses a session, showing just how committed he is.

He is a very deserving Club Champion and we congratulate him on an outstanding season.

The leading Goal kicker in the Club was for many years awarded to the player who kicked the most across all our grades of footy, no matter where they played, or how often. In 2001 it was changed to recognise First Grade senior goals only.

In 2016 the Leading Goalkicker is Andrew McConnell with 46 goals for the Premier Division season. Leading goal kickers in all other teams were:

Division One Jared Patira (22) U/19 Cody Matthews (24) Division Three Keith Leggett (9)

Andrew had a better year than he did in 1999. A reference to the knockout blow he took in the first quarter of the Grand Final which caused him to miss the rest of the match. When he woke up he was convinced it was 1999 and as a St Kilda supporter that must have been very pleasant indeed to have missed those last 17 years. ☺

Bags of six against Pennant Hills in R1 and Wests in R7, along with three swags of five, gave cause for all opposition teams to be very wary of Andrew. With his partner in forward crime, four times leading goal- kicker Jamie Vlatko injured for the majority of the season, it was left to Macca to play the leading role in the East Coast forward line.

A strong marking player and prolific ball winner on the ground, it matters not how the footy comes in to him. Andrew played all 18 games this season and an average of three goals per game from someone who is continually tagged was a superb effort.

Congratulations are also extended to Cody Matthews, Jared Patira and Keith Leggett for their seasons in their respective teams.

2008 Michael Johnston 2015 Lyndon Hupfeld 2009 Jack Dimery

Rising Star criteria

• In his first full year of Senior Football. • Demonstrates excellence in many areas of his football. • Is influential in the success of the senior team / Lives up to the Team Values. • Demonstrates outstanding qualities that set him apart from others.

Our 2016 Rising Star winner is Bailey Stewart.

17 year old Bailey played 14 senior games in his first season including the 2016 Sydney AFL Grand Final. At the start of the year the coaches recognised his talent and he was picked for his first senior game in Round 3 v North Shore. At the time, Bailey was still just 16 years of age and in his first game he showed that he was more than comfortable at Premier Div level finishing with 23 disposals, six marks and five tackles. He was named in the best players in his first game of senior football.

Bailey never looked back after that first game being named in the best players on four separate occasions. He was a starting wingman in all twelve games he played, including the Grand Final where he became a Premiership player at just 17 years of age.

Bailey is part of the renowned Academy as well as the NSW/ACT RAMS program and is very professional in his approach. He is an elite runner who is able to win his own contested football on the inside and use his pace to win it on the outside. His decision making in heavy traffic and his defensive pressure are key aspects of his game. His first season of senior football has been outstanding particularly given his age and we expect Bailey to go onto bigger and better things over the coming years.

We are proud to call Bailey an Eagles Premiership player and he is a very deserving Rising Star winner.

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL

David Arndt It’s been another fantastic year for the East Coast Eagles with all of the hard work through the pre-season, both on and off the field, really setting us up for a great year. Premier Division finishing top of the table and then going on to win the premie rship flag was the “icing on the cake!”

With a slight shuffle of the Board positions in 2016 to allow Paul Eastman to come in as Director of Football, I took on the role of Womens Football & Junior Development / Liaison to help improve the link between K ellyville Juniors, Baulkham Hills and the Eagles. My main focus throughout the 2016 season was to develop our new venture into Women’s Football with our proposal to field a Premier Division Women’s Team in 2017.

After posting an expression of int erest to all potential women players on the Eagles Facebook page, it was extremely pleasing to see the positive response from the current playing group, their partners / friends and all followers of the East Coast Eagles.

With Kellyville (Northern Thunde r) fielding a Div 1 and Div 2 side in the 2016 competition and looking strong for 2017, the Eagles will provide a strong pathway for the girls coming out of the Under 18’s competition into senior football next year and beyond. It was also pleasing to note when Kellyville reached out to the Eagles for assistance with coaching / training of the Kellyville (Northern Thunder) Div 2 side, Jackson Cosgrove was more than willing to assist with the coaching of the team on game day. Both Jackson and Cameron Arndt assisted with the training for the girls on Friday nights. Thank you to both Jackson and Cameron for your ongoing support.

With the introduction of the Female High Performance Academies in 2016, I was given the opportunity to be the Assistant Coach alongside Brent Trewin in 2016 based at Blacktown International Sport Park with GWS. This has been a fantastic opportunity for me to learn more about Women’s Football which I hope will assist us in the future of their football here at the Eagles. Next step in the development of our Womens team will be an information / training night and then straight into Pre- Season in mid November.

In addition to my role, I’ve again thoroughly enjoyed supporting the Senior playing group at training and on game days as Team Man ager for the Premier Division side. A big thank you to Michael Sankey, Andrew Turner, Peter Steer and Phillip Bester for your ongoing support and thanks to Damon Steer for running messages for the team. A huge thanks also goes to Paul Regan, as not only wo uld Paul be there to support the Prems on game days and training, he’d regularly assist with the Div 1 boys as well (sometimes both teams in two different locations). Thanks to all the players who assisted with running water for the team throughout the yea r. It’s been a real pleasure working with you all and I hope to see you next year continuing to support the team and the club wherever you can.

Finally a huge thank you to my wife Bethan , daughters Jessica and Chloe and son Cameron – without the support from you guys to allow me to take time out to be involved in this wonderful club, I wouldn’t be able to do something I’m extremely passionate about.

See you all at the footy in 2017….. David

MAGPIES ACADEMY

David Hemmings

Magpies and the Eagles together on the last training run at Kanebridge Oval before the finals.

In 2016 The Big W Magpies Academy commenced with 100 participants from the Kellyville Rouse Hill Magpies who registered to take part in the 10 week course.

Entering its second and biggest season the Magpies Academy took on the gigantic task of providing participants with a 4-day Football tour of Victoria. But before that happened we got off to a flying start with huge support from our sponsors Big W, PWC, East Coast Eagles, Motiv8sports and Optimise Finance and of course all the parents along with assistance from the East Coast Eagles. Turning up on the first night of the Academy we could feel the huge buzz around Kanebridge Oval with our 100 kids pumped to be given their new Academy uniforms and meet the coaching team.

It did not take long for Monday nights to become everyone’s favourite night at Kanebridge with the car park quickly filling up and the sight of Sherrins flying through the air. Make no mistake the Magpies Academy has been groundbreaking for junior football in Sydney and it is the first participation based club run academy to be developed in NSW. We have been the envy of many Sydney based clubs and throughout the course of the 2016 season we have had five other junior clubs contact us for guidance in establishing their own academies.

For 90 minutes every Monday night our junior footballers receive first class coaching, are treated like champions and given guidance in reaching their full potential. Most importantly our East Coast Eagles coaching team lead by Mick Sankey have taught the kids about football culture, mateship and work ethic. With our Monday night sessions up and running we began the mammoth task of turning our Vic Football Tour into a reality. We conducted several information sessions and before you knew it we had tour dates set in place, fundraisers locked in and an awesome passport system in place for our players.

Within a week of announcing our tour of Victoria we had 70 kids registered, 20 travelling supervisors, a fundraising team and excitement over football I have never witnessed at our club before. It did not take long for Subaru to jump on board as the naming rights sponsor of the Vic tour and some amazing parents at our club joined the long list of sponsors with iL Lago, Acacia Landscapes & Sydney Plumbing also joining the team. People power was working at its best and once the machine began to kick into gear this tour was going to be unstoppable. I still get goose bumps when I think of how many parents offered time to help make it a reality with people cooking BBQ's, selling raffle tickets, planning lunches, asking companies for prize donations, running golf days and the long list of amazing acts of generosity just kept going and going.

Within a six week time frame this amazing group of people known as the Magpies Academy, with the unbelievable support of the East Coast Eagles, held a special raffle which raised close to $30,000, performed the best “Mums’ Luncheon” on the planet to raise over $12,000, ran a golf day and auction for over 140 men raising $13,000, put on a BBQ every Monday night raising over $2,000, performed a fundraiser donating $1,700 to the Eagles at “Back to Baulko” day, booked buses, ordered complete tour uniforms, booked accommodation, locked in tickets for AFL games and MCG tours and the list goes on.

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

The Academy players had a ball at Back to Baulko. Here they are wondering if they can just maybe get a little closer to their heroes out on the ground.

With the excitement peaking it was finally time to depart Kellyville on our two Pegasus coaches... Victoria here we come. If you looked up the word professional there would have been a photo of the Magpies Academy team all decked out in their uniforms with matching travel luggage. With the buses fully loaded we departed for Wangaratta and it was clear to see that the best invention in the world was the iPad. I have never seen such well behaved boys and before you knew it we were rolling into Wangaratta to put our boots on and commence grading for team selections to play the mighty Torquay Tigers the next day. Wangaratta provided the boys with a great country setting to do what they love... play footy. After 90 minutes of crash and bash training teams were selected and we all headed to our hotel to relax for 30 minutes before heading out the door for our team dinner function.

After what seemed like a quick sleep it was back on the bus in rainy conditions to head to Torquay to take on the Tigers. After 30 minutes of travel it became apparent that one bus would become known as the “hold on” bus with its toilets completely full and the out of order sign placed on the door.

It wasn’t long before the boys began to get restless in anticipation of our afternoon against the Tigers playing for the Subaru Cup . When the bus rolled into Torquay we started to realise why Victoria is the heartland of AFL. The Tigers’ home ground had its own stadium, club house and car park around the outside of the ground where parents would blow their horns when the Tigers scored a goal. We can't thank Torquay enough for making us feel so welcome as they put on games and a BBQ for our group. When our four teams took the field at Torquay we looked slightly out of place as nearly every player from the Tigers had long hair with a headband... they even sold headbands at the canteen. Our boys did not disappoint on the field, however it became very evident that the standard of football in Victoria was outstanding. As the Director of the Academy I was quietly happy that all four of our teams were beaten as this highlighted our main reason for establishing the Academy in the first place. By exposing our travelling group to this high level of football I have no doubt that we have planted the seed for what is possible with our juniors as we get more opportunities to provide them reasons to have a football in their hands.

With everyone feeling banged up and bruised from full field footy, we had a quick shower and before you knew it we were all sitting at Symonds Stadium watching the Sydney Swans defeat Geelong. The highlight of this night was watching so many young boys develop an addiction to hot jam donuts. (Yet another Victorian institution when going to the footy).

As our heads hit the pillows back in Torquay, fatigue had set in and before you knew it we were on those buses again heading for Melbourne and the mighty MCG. As we pulled into the stadium it felt like we had arrived at the Sistine Chapel. The Mighty G was ready for these future Magpies and we all enjoyed one of the best experiences including time in the Sports Museum and a guided tour of the MCG. After everyone spent up in the gift shop we all went our separate ways for our first free time of the tour. It was time to hit the streets of Melbourne for some serious shopping and coffee drinking. In saying that, most people went back to their hotels absolutely exhausted for some much needed shut eye.

Beep beep beep.... the alarm was sounding which meant there was no time for sleep. It was time to get in a tram and get to Etihad Stadium for the Western Bulldogs v Tigers clash. The Bulldogs hosted us and when they won in a thrilling finish, some of Academy team got to join their heroes for their team song in the change rooms. As we all left Etihad Stadium that night we knew that our tour was almost complete. When we awoke on Sunday morning we all said our goodbyes to Melbourne and had that sad feeling in our hearts as we got on the bus to return to Sydney. 36

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

It was over... we had actually achieved our goal and successfully given kids and parents a football tour they will remember for the rest of their lives.

It is hard to talk about the enormity of what our group achieved without getting choked up. Children and parents have made lifelong friends because of this tour and most of all we have taught our kids about community, passion and achieving goals. It is irrelevant if any of these boys ever get to play in the AFL one day as what's more important is that we have provided our kids with a spark that will hopefully fuel those dreams and make them believe that they can achieve anything they work hard for.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every parent who was involved in Magpies Academy over the past two years. The generosity and contributions by all have been inspiring. To the entire East Coast Eagles community I would like to thank you for opening your doors to make us feel so welcome. Without the Eagles support and long list of Eagles players giving up their time to coach, the Academy wouldn't exist. In return East Coast now have a generation of young players who are dreaming of playing for your great club and feel like part of the Eagles family.

To Mick Sankey our Academy Coaching Director and Eagles head coach, words cannot thank you enough for the effort, time and generosity you have shown to us. You have been the reason for the strong bond the Eagles and the Academy share and East Coast should be so very proud of the way you have represented them as a club. I would also like to thank Glenn Mackay our Operations Manager.... every single person who was involved in the Academy owes you a huge thank you. You have spent countless hours on this mission to the point where your own work would suffer. Without your energy, effort and business knowledge this Victorian Tour would not have happened...you are amazing.

Lastly I need to thank my own family and the Mackay family for putting up with the stress, workload and toll this project took on our own lives... Thankyou so much.

We look forward to season 2017 of the Academy and an exciting announcement which we will make over the next few weeks.

Many thanks,

David Hemmings / Academy Founder and Director

THE SEASON WRAP

Paul Eastman - Director of Football

Another great season to be involved in the East Coast Eagles AFL Football Club. As was the aim in the previous season, the club’s goal was to maintain a nd grow our dominance within the Sydney football community. The club is renowned for and definitely back as the culture driven, professional football club that we deserve to be.

Huge congratulations to Michael Sankey, assistant coaches, the entire playing group and support staff for delivering an outstanding result in another Premiership this season. After the previous year’s disappointment, the group’s commitment and hard labour has allowed so many past and present people to enjoy and celebrate your succe ss and on behalf of everyone, I personally would like to thank you one and all for that.

Season 2016 saw the club field four teams across the divisions. Our results were not as strong in Division 1, Division 3 and Under 19 as we would all like, but I woul d like to commend the following coaches, Matt O’Connor (Reserve Grade), Matty Mack (Third Grade) and John Hupfield (U19) on their commitment and professionalism throughout the year. The club is aware of the importance in being rewarded for the efforts of a ll. Work is currently being done to develop our winning culture through player retainment, player recruitment and ensuring that every year we are playing in the most competitive competition to help deliver this.

Our 2016 sponsorship program will continue to be developed moving forward. It has been identified within the club that we need to strengthen relationships with external parties such as Academies and having a two-way communication for development and player management. Work is ongoing in these areas to strengthen our nursery for younger players and therefore have sustainable strength in playing numbers across all grades.

With the upcoming season fast approaching, I would like to communicate and acknowledge the work being done by David Arndt to build from scratch and deliver the Eagles first Women’s team in 2017. Exciting times ahead for the club as we move forward in conjunction with the National planning and development of the game.

Personally I would like to thank Board members Peter Physick, Jon Gawley, Paul Meyer and David Arndt for your support when joining the Board this year. A special mention must go to Peter for his longevity and expertise he has shown to the club over numerous years. Thank you and well done. We all look forward to your cont inuing support.

Another appreciation I would like to personally forward is to Michael Sankey. Your professionalism, hard work, commitment and relationships as head coach are second to none. We also look forward to your continuing support in a different r ole and wish you well with your commitments. Look forward to season 2017 and enjoying our club.

STRONG & UNITED

It was essential that season 2016 be a building season for the U19s and to put into place strategies and planning that would ensure the development of the next generation of ECE players coming through.

During the off season a plan was put together that would see changes to the U19 format with “development” a key focus, along with club culture which would result in the U19s being an inclusive part of the senior club and have a clear path for ease of transition into the seniors.

The preseason training phase saw the 19s join the seniors and the opportunity for them to train at an intense level alongside Premier Division players, and to learn firsthand what was required to play at senior level. Prems Players became role models for the club’s youngest group and friendships were formed. Five U19 players were rewarded for their hard work during pre-season and pulled on the East Coast jumper to play a practice match against Norwood Payneham from Adelaide. Thereby gaining valuable experience as to what was required to play and compete at the highest level.

The season’s phase of training remained inclusive with the 19s training one night a week with seniors and one night a week on Aidan Chapman - B&F their own. For the first time the U19s selected team was named on the Thursday night session alongside the senior team announcement, creating a very wide-ranging club environment.

2016 was a season where the lads were rewarded for hard work and consistency and the opportunity to get a Prems’ call up. With the U19s playing the same game plan and structures as the Premier Division, training alongside them brought results. Connor Stewart, Bailey Stewart, Xander van Vliet, Tom Zdrilic, Derrick Visser, Aidan Chapman, Nathan Coxall and Connor O’Brien all pulled on the ECE jumper for Prems further nurturing their development. Particularly in a premiership season. Outside this group of players there were others who came very close to a senior call up through the season and with a further eight 19s playing senior footy with Division One through the season, there is no doubt that the future generation of East Coast stock is strong.

39

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

With a focus on this season to develop and nurture talent, we had eleven U17 players from junior clubs (Kellyville, Baulkham Hills, Emu Plains and St Clair Crows) play 19s this season, thus enabling these young players to transition into 19s and senior football in season 2017. Many of these underage players have already demonstrated that they will

be future stars of the Eagles and the experience gained in 2016 will be of great benefit to their ongoing development.

In terms of match results in 2016, it was disappointing from a win / loss perspective. However we always viewed this season as a rebuilding year with an opportunity to lay strong development foundations and a structure which would result in the U19s becoming a productive nursery to feed into Prems.

A big thanks to Michael Sankey who helped shape and plan the 19s’ season strategy and for his communication

Alexander van Vliet - Runner Up B&F and feed back to players who demonstrated through the season that they were under Prems selection consideration. The players had a very strong support team of coaches and managers, all of whom are extremely passionate about their footy and seeing the ongoing success of the club. Thanks to Richard O’Keefe, Bronwyn Bailey, Paul Eastman, Peter Van Vliet, Mark McLeod and John Dwyer for your support and passion throughout the season and for your time and your effort in nurturing the boys. Also thank you to Matt Eastman and Richard O’Keefe for your assistance and communication around the U17 players from Kellyville and Western Sydney.

With the talent coming through from U17’s next season and a strong foundation laid in 2016, next season looks to be an exciting one for the U19’s even though many players will be moving up into senior football. I have enjoyed being at the helm of the Under 19’s this season and after three years at the club I will be taking some time off to spend with family. I look forward to watching some games next season and the continued development of the great young men that have played this season.

Love your footy

The year for Division Three started with real uncertainty for the side in regards to numbers for 2016. Leading into our first game against Pennant Hills, it was shaping up to be a very challenging year with a frantic Friday afternoon of phone calls appearing to be the only way to get a side on the park. Fast forward six months and Div 3 concluded the year with a full squad of committed players who loved pulling on the Eagles colours game after game. This was a great achievement with 18 players either returning to the Eagles, or playing their first game for the club through the Div 3 side.

A turn-around like that does not happen without the dedicated work a number of individuals, who I would like to highlight and thank below. Without the efforts of Paul Meyer (Roosy to his mates), the side simply would not of existed this year. Roosy’s dedication to not only the club, but Div 3 specifically, is unlike anything I have seen in a football club before and on behalf of the entire playing group, we cannot thank him for his efforts this year. A thank you also to all the Meyer clan for supporting the time he was able to dedicate to the team this year.

To Keith Leggett for his constant support of the side, not only off the field with recruiting, training etc, but also on it, with the title of leading goal kicker this year. To Matt O’Connor for his time and support in ensuring both Division 1 and 3 were both as strong as possible leading into each game and of course for throwing the boots on himself. To the Under 19s and Div 1 players who threw Shaun Suitor - B&F their hand up to either back-up for our side or assist on our match day. Finally, to all of the legends who dedicate their time to supporting the Eagles, with a particular Div 3 mention to, the Baileys, Tracey Stewart, Pete Physick, Jared Patira, Richard Lee, Dave Arndt, and the greatest club umpire ever to grace the field, George Acland.

Emerging through the playing group were also a number of individuals who took on greater roles within the side, again not only on the field, but also in the all-important ‘social’ aspects of the year. The likes of Dan Cicciarelli (Skipper), Scott Waterhouse, Ben Foxall and Jake Simpson showed a great dedication to the overall culture of the side and were a major reason why players enjoyed being a part of the team week after week.

While (as I have been reminded constantly), my first year in the coaching ranks did not draw the results on the field, the way the group was able to remain positive and enjoy football for all the right reasons, will ensure I look back on the year with only a positive light.

In an effort to ensure all the great work from the people above does not go to waste, I am looking forward to seeing everyone back again in 2017 for another great year with the Eagles.

A tough year would be an understatement. We would start the year with 15 players not available for selection in Round 1 and for the first six weeks this would get no better. Division 1 was a new test for my skill set, but I had faith that our group would find a way to fight off the challenging start and rise to the occasion. While we would only belt out the song once, against then TOP OF THE TABLE Macquarie Uni with a six goal win, our season would be typified by slow starts, mental lapses and poor preparation mid-week.

To the players who played Division Three or Under 19’s and made the effort to back up for Division 1 when needed many times across the year, I thank you and so do you mates. This shows what the Eagles are all about and you are the corner stone of what East Coast will build on going forward.

Season Review:

First five weeks we averaged 16 players who were not available for selection. Our season challenged us before the first bounce and we would not get our best side on the park at any stage.

Round 9 would see our only victory. Close to our strongest side on paper for the year including the return from a few Ryan Fitton - Billy Mc Leod Medallist weeks rest for a hammy rehab Rowan Bilkey. Like so many weeks before and those to follow, we would have more than our fair share of footy in the opening term but waste many opportunities going inside 50. A one point lead at the first break would see us continue with confidence and a focus to be better, unlike I had seen from the group all season. 29 points up at halftime and we would need a whole heap of focus to make sure we didn’t let this one slip. Bilks bagged six of his best and could have had nine, Luke Gemmill gave us first use and control of clearances to Fitto, Skusey and Gaz. Biebs and Coxy were rock solid down back all day.

Unfortunately it was the only shining light in a very dark season for the boys. We would have moments and chances in other games but they were too few and far between.

2017 is a year of building on a solid spine, game plan and the need for an increase in desire. We will all need to ask ourselves, what sacrifices are we willing to make to contend?

The list of thanks:

Firstly, thank you to the long line of our supporters, Mums and Dads, wives and girlfriends who brave the cold winter evenings and even travel out in a convoy to watch us every week rain or shine, win or loss. Some of you screaming and yelling. You are always there for the boys, so from me on their behalf, a big thank you.

Garry and Bronwyn Bailey: Two fantastic people who get us out on the park every single week by doing the tough stuff, with Garry stepping back in at the last minute to help me attempt to point this mob in the right direction this season. They both made game day a breeze (well the admin part) and allowed me to do my preparation with the boys and we are indebted to them for this.

The Senior Coaching Group:

Michael Sankey, Peter Steer, Andrew Turner, John Hupfeld and Phil Bester, thank you for your support and Alex Foxall - Runner Up B&F assistance during season 2016, especially to Sanks for encouraging me to setup and take Div 1 by the horns.

Trevor Hangan, your continued support is very much appreciated as is the Eagles Coterie Club.

A special thank you to Nathan Halliday and Sports Physio Norwest for your ongoing treatment of the players and a huge thank you for your support and the work you have done to rehabilitate injured players and get them back on the track. Thanks!

Paul Stewart for all the hard work in the back ground, thank you. Tracey Stewart thanks so much.... and not only for the great photos. Thank you to the East Coast Eagles Board for your support of myself and the group throughout 2016. We look forward to next season and many more to come.

In closing, 2016 promised to be so much more than what unfolded. It’s something that I feel the whole group will walk away unfulfilled from, but driven to go the next level and play finals in 2017.

Losing a Grand Final is never easy, especially when you are the favourites. After the loss in 2015, everyone was an expert and everyone had an opinion. Our list was too old, we didn’t train hard enough, we should have kicked against the wind in the first quarter and the Coach didn’t pick the best side. You name it, I heard it although surprisingly I didn’t hear from any of the experts during the year when we were winning every game with the same side every week.

I can assure everyone reading this that as the Senior Coach, it was very difficult to get over and it sat uneasily with me for many months afterwards. However, I sought plenty of guidance and advice from many people that I trust and respect in football (both inside and outside ECE) and this allowed me to reset and refocus my energy on season 2016.

In the offseason I worked hard on evolving our strategy and made sure that I communicated that to as many people as possible. To start with, I made certain that every person involved with East Coast either as a player, coach, board member, supporter or sponsor completely understood that season 2016 was not about redemption. It was about moving forward. You never get back what you have lost in sport. This was the message that I continued to deliver throughout 2016. It was time to move on and I certainly wasn’t looking back.

From a playing list perspective, it was harder than ever to keep them motivated about the season ahead. Especially pre-season. Plenty of work was done in the offseason to convince players to return and commit to another year. We lost a few of our better players from 2015 including three time Club Champion Trent Stubbs who decided to move to South Australia and have a crack at playing in the SANFL. I have always encouraged players to play at the highest level they can Kier an Emery - Club Champion and I was very proud that Trent had decided to make this move. We also lost Scott Reed who moved back home up on the Central Coast and Daniel Spiteri retired again! Hopefully he returns next season.

Unfortunately, some players decided to leave and seek opportunities elsewhere after missing out on spots in the Grand Final side and whilst we were sorry to lose them, we only wanted those who were 100% committed to the 2016 cause. I would like to thank both Rodney Frost and Jon Vlatko for once again playing a pivotal role in player retention. Without their help my role would have been a lot harder. I’m lucky to call both of them great mates. 53

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

Our recruitment in the offseason was tough and we missed out on a few recruits who made the decision to go to some of our rivals. Some of our major recruits were returning players including Rowan Bilkey a three time premiership player and former Captain who returned after living in New Zealand for a few years, and Luke Gemmill returned from playing in Canberra. Both players would have a significant impact throughout season 2016. We secured a few others including returning player Josh Battistella who was part of our best side until he broke his wrist. Last and certainly not least, was a young sixteen year old by the name of Bailey Stewart . I knew he was a good player at the time, but I had no idea how much of an impact he was going to have on our Premier Division side. This kid is a star!! You can read more about Bailey in our Rising Star section.

Once we had commitment from the players, all of our effort and energy was put into developing a strong pre-season program to ensure we had the best chance of getting back to another Grand Final. The coaching staff was appointed with Jamie Vlatko coming on as the Senior Assistant and Andrew Turner returned as our defensive assistant coach. Peter Steer and Philip Bester would also sign on again as game day assistants meaning we had maintained continuity in our coaching group. This was very important to me as the senior coach.

Mathew O’Connor was appointed the Reserves coach and was ably assisted by Jared Patira . Two fantastic guys and great clubmen. John Hupfeld was appointed coach of the Under 19s with his assistants Richard O’Keefe, Mark McLeod and Peter van Vliet . And finally, Matt Mack took over the reins of our Division 3 side. Whilst all of these teams had very tough years, it was certainly no reflection of these individuals. Premier Division suffered more injuries in 2016 than I had seen in over ten years at the club and unfortunately this filtered down through all grades.

We had stability in our leadership group which was once again led by our Captain Jon Vlatko and we also added Rowan Bilkey into a mentoring position which added plenty Stuart Turner - Runner Up B&F of value. Strong and United was again our trademark and we added #BM2016 which proved to be a driving force throughout 2016.

What I would like to tell everyone is that it was a very successful pre-season and one that was strongly attended. However, it was almost the opposite. The Grand Final loss was still hurting many of our players and this clearly impacted motivation and commitment levels and our pre-season wasn’t that well attended. We were lucky that we decided to combine the whole clubs pre-season (U19s and Div 3) into the one. Without their attendance we would have struggled to complete quality sessions. Our pre-season camp, held at Del Rio Riverside Resort in Webbs Creek near Wisemans Ferry, also lacked the attendance we were looking for which was a little disappointing as it was a fantastic camp. All who attended enjoyed themselves and some strong bonds were formed over a few late night beers and stories. Was I worried? I certainly was! I made plenty of phone calls and had a few meetings with players and the leadership group just to try and find the right formula to ensure that 2016 wasn’t going to turn into a waste of everyone’s time.

As the pre-season went on, the closer we got to the practice games the more our attendance increased. We played an intra-club game that didn’t really achieve any great heights however some players were showing positive signs. My mind was put at ease when we played Payneham Norwood Union Football Club in a practice game out at Kelso Oval. Payneham had played in a Grand Final the year prior in the strongest metropolitan competition in South Australia. They are a very strong club and they also happened to be coached by an absolute Australian Football legend in Garry McIntosh . Our boys lifted for this contest and we came away with a five goal win surprising most people including many from within. Whilst it was only a practice match, and admittedly our opposition had just jumped off a plane and made their way straight to the game, I believe that this gave everyone a lot of confidence heading into the season. I had the chance to talk to Garry about my concerns on the players’ motivation after losing the grand final and he simply re-assured me that this was fairly normal and that once the season got underway it would all go back to normal. To get a chance to talk with Garry and get his advice was certainly very invaluable to me. Hopefully East Coast & Payneham can make this a regular fixture. 54

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

Next up we played Belconnen in a practice match and we were quickly brought back down to earth with an almighty thud. They smashed us by over 100 points down in Canberra. They had lost their Grand Final the year prior in the exact same circumstances as us and their coach Jeremy Rowe also felt that lack of motivation from his group. We were in the same boat, although he was feeling a lot better than me after they gave us a football lesson.

Unfortunately for me, and great for him, Jack Dimery had signed up to go on The Recruit meaning we were going to be without one of our stars for the first four to six games. I was very proud (as I’m sure all who know Jack) with the way he went about representing not only himself and East Coast, but the Sydney AFL community in general. I’m certain that bigger things will come off the back of Jack’s performance throughout those ten weeks.

Finally the season was upon us and Round 1 was always going to be scheduled to play against our arch rivals and the reigning Sydney AFL Premiers in Pennant Hills. I made certain that the entire football club knew that this had nothing to do with redemption; it was all about getting off to a strong start for 2016. The competition was eager to see how we would go with many tipping us to go backwards after losing some key players. It was going to be a tough contest, especially considering we were missing six of our best players which would turn out to be the norm throughout 2016. With the exception of the first five minutes, we would go on to dominate this game eventually winning by six goals. At one stage during the last quarter we were up by nine goals and the end score didn’t Andrew Browning - Strong & United really reflect our dominance. I walked away from this game convinced that the playing group was completely on board and was motivated for the season ahead.

We won our next game against Sydney University in clinical fashion by six goals. We then had a huge loss against North Shore in Round 3. We lost by nearly eight goals in what was a very surprising result to not only the competition, but also within. They played some fantastic football and really taught us a lesson that day. Whilst we had six of our best players out, we didn’t have any excuses to perform so poorly. The one positive to take away from this game however was the unearthing of a star in Bailey Stewart . He showed enough in his first game of senior football to convince me that he was going to be a very handy player. And at the very young age of sixteen he became a starting wingman for our Premier Division side, a position he would hold all year.

Our next three games were won by 10, 5 & 14 points respectively against quality opposition in Manly, St George & UTS Bats. We continued to be heavily undermanned during these games and I am proud of the young players that came in and made the most of their opportunities. We had been tested over this period and each time we did what was required to get a win. We showed great resilience and character in each of these wins. This season was starting out very differently to the 2015 season and we were being made to work harder for our wins which would hold us in good stead later in the year when things were going to get serious.

Jack Dimery returned during this time for the St George game giving everyone a sense of confidence that one of our best players was back. He had come back a much improved player and immediately stamped his authority on the competition with 36 disposals and a goal in his first game. He would go on to average 40 disposals per game in 2016 including three games over 50 and six games over 40. Incredible!

We got on a roll and won the next nine games in a row which took our winning streak to a total of twelve. We were in fantastic form as a team and all of our young and inexperienced players were adding value to the team. In stark contrast to our pre-season, our senior playing group were motivated and committed more than ever with strong attendance at our training sessions. They were starting to get that hunger and desire and I could tell that our playing group was building themselves up for the finals series.

We lost our last round to North Shore who had managed to come back from six goals down to beat us by four points late in the last quarter. This was the second time they had beaten us and many were starting to think that 55

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK we weren’t the best side in the competition. I wasn’t worried though. We were missing six of our best players in the last round and two more came off in the last quarter to nurse soreness including star forward Jamie Vlatko . We also kicked one goal eight behinds in the second half which is about as bad as it gets in terms of conversion.

And so at the conclusion of the regular season we had achieved our first goal and finished on top of the ladder with fourteen wins and two losses. In second place was St George who had only lost three games for the year including both games against East Coast. However they had a better percentage than us and had the best offensive and defensive record for the year. They were certainly a quality side.

Our Premier Division team had to wait two weeks before our first final after securing the first week off in the finals which is the reward for finishing first. We lifted the standard and intensity of training over these weeks and trained as hard as we had through our pre-season including very hard Saturday sessions. We had a few injury concerns however these would benefit from the weeks off.

Our first semi-final was played against St George out at our favourite ground BISP. Whilst St George aren’t considered our arch rivals, they are certainly a rival and there is absolutely no love lost between these two clubs. We made six changes to our Round 18 side and brought back in some of our best players who failed to play in the last round. One of these players was Damien Charleston who hadn’t played for seven weeks and many thought this was too much of a risk. I had plenty of people question my decision however I was very confident in Charlie and I was committed to playing my best team. This game was the first one all season that we had our best twenty-two players on the ground and we definitely Andrew McConnell played like it. Every other week we had a minimum of five and up to Most Consistent nine out on a few occasions.

The game was tight early as all finals usually are. But as the game went on we started to show our class and we ended up winning by five goals after being nine up half way through the last quarter. Again, the end score didn’t reflect our dominance with every player having a good game and playing their role in the team. Eugene Kruger, Jamie Vlatko, Jack Dimery, Dean Costello and Ben Bourke really led the way. Charlie didn’t let me down and he was one of the best on the day keeping his man goalless for the third time this year.

Whilst I wasn’t arrogant, I was very confident that our best was going to be too good for our opposition regardless of who our opponent was. I just made sure that I didn’t let anyone else know how I was thinking as I definitely didn’t want any complacency.

We had qualified for another weekend off and this allowed our players to get themselves right and we were able to work on a few things that required improvement. We reviewed plenty of video footage of our own game and also our opposition to ensure that we left no stone unturned. Our players and coaching staff were very confident that we had prepared as well as we could. Our planning and preparation throughout this period was fantastic and I thank all involved for their commitment during this time.

Selection at the best of times is always a difficult job for coaching staff, however selecting a side for a Grand Final is very tough. We had a fit list and we decided to stay with the same twenty-two players who had all performed their roles in the first semi-final. I also felt that stability was extremely important to the side and it would give us confidence as a team heading into the grand final.

If it was allowed, I would pick all forty-one players that played a game at Premier Division level in 2016. For the players who did miss out, make sure you stay committed and return in season 2017. Just like Matt Eastman who was dropped in 2015. He showed tremendous character and resilience and I am really proud of the way he matured in 2016.

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

Finally it was the day of the Sydney AFL Grand Final. We had done everything possible to put ourselves in the best possible position for this day and our players were ready for the challenge. We were on the back foot early with St George kicking the first few goals; however we were able to steady through the work of Jamie Vlatko and Rowan Bilkey who were on early. Blake Anderson kicked a team lifting goal after one of our very best players Andrew McConnell was knocked unconscious at the eighteen minute mark of the first quarter. I must admit, I was very concerned for Macca with the incident occurring right in front of me. I haven’t seen someone knocked out like that in all of my years in football. No wonder he thought it was 1999! I was also somewhat worried that we had just lost one of our best players so early in a grand final. Macca had kicked nearly 50 goals for the season playing out of the midfield. We needed everyone to lift to cover for him.

The second quarter was an arm wrestle, although we were still dominating most positions on the ground. We lost Damien Charleston to a serious knee injury in the quarter however Kieran Emery and Ben Bourke would stand up and cover him. Stuart Turner had also copped a very nasty knee in the back and was really struggling during the half time break. He is a tough kid and I knew something must be wrong when he was close to tears. I pleaded with him to dig deep for his mates and I am very proud that he pushed through tremendous pain to get back out there. At half time I simply re-iterated the same message and implored them to stick to our game plan. They say third quarters are where grand finals are won and we certainly showed this to be true. We dominated in all areas and went into three quarter time with a four goal lead. I must admit, the last quarter is somewhat of a blur. I was a little emotional during the last quarter as this was to be my last game as a coach and at one stage I couldn’t contain the emotion and a tear rolled down my cheek at about the twenty-two minute mark of the last quarter when I conceded that the 2016 Premiership was ours. Lucky for me I had the great Trev Hangan there to keep me composed and remind me to stay focused.

Jamie Vlatko - Best in Finals And when the siren eventually sounded we had won the 2016 Premiership. Our club was back to where we belong. On top! All of our hard work and all of our effort was finally rewarded and we got what we deserved. Congratulations to everyone involved in the entire club. It is not just about the twenty-two players who represented the club on the day. This took an entire football club to win the premiership and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. My favourite image of the whole weekend was all of our players and supporters under the scoreboard celebrating the win. This is what community clubs are all about.

There are many people that I would like to thank this year. To start with I would like to thank Peter Physick who is an absolute legend of our football club. A very humble man who continually underplays his impact on our great club. Thanks for your support over my ten years Pete. Also thanks to those on the board including Jon Gawley, Rodney Frost, Paul Eastman, Jon Gawley , Dave Arndt and Paul Meyer . And of course Richard Lee for keeping us fed during the year. All great men.

I would like to thank Dave Arndt for his tireless and selfless work as our team manager. It’s not easy being the father of a rising star in our club. Cameron did well to play ten games in 2016 and I have no doubt that he will play the entire season next year. Not once did you complain or question the coaching staff when Cam was dropped from the team and I thank you for your professionalism.

Thanks to the assistant coaches and match day assistants in Jamie Vlatko, Andrew Turner, Peter Steer and Phil Bester. As a group, our assistant coaches work hard and put in a lot of time and effort throughout the year. We also have a lot of fun along the way and I will miss our banter during training and especially during the games. I have had a lot of great moments with each of you and I will have great memories of our time together. To our leadership group in Jon Vlatko, Jamie Vlatko, Ben Bourke, Jack Dimery, Eugene Kruger, Andrew Browning, Stuart Turner and Rowan Bilkey I would like to say a big thanks. All of you continue to lead the way in all areas including on and off field.

Thanks to Matt O’Connor for coaching Division 1 with Jared Patira as his assistant. Both of these men never miss a session and supported myself unconditionally. The role of a reserves coach is never easy when you have to work around senior selection, injuries and unavailability’s. At times we were hit hard this year by the above but I 57

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK felt that you coached well during these tough periods. Thanks also to Jon Hupfeld for coaching the Under 19s and Matt Mack for looking after Division Three.

Thanks to my match day runner in Damon “Pistol” Steer. Make sure you put the boots back on next year. Thanks to Paul “Reggie” Regan, Paul Meyer, Pete van Vliet and Paul Eastman for your outstanding contribution throughout the year at training and also the pre-season camp. We are very lucky to have this level of support at every training session and your support is very much appreciated by me. We have plenty of fun and a lot of laughs as a group and I look forward to catching up with all of you in the off-season.

I would like to thank Nathan Halliday and his team of physios mainly Andrew Walker, Henry and Heather who turn up every week and give us a tremendous amount of support. I would like to say a huge thanks to the families who watch us play every week. Your support is very much appreciated as is all the support we get from the fantastic group of wives and girlfriends at East Coast.

Huge thanks to all of the players who I have coached over the last few years. I have loved every minute spent with this group and I will always have great memories of my time with each of you. Hopefully I have had some sort of influence in your life, either inside football or in your personal life. If you ever need any help, guidance or advice just give me a call or snapchat me. You know the number.

I would like to thank the Board, the Coterie club, the Supporters, the Volunteers and our Sponsors for your support this year. We need you all back and on board with us bigger and better next year.

Last but not least, I would like to thank my wonderful wife Stacy and two children Liam and Chloe for allowing me to indulge in my passion. I look forward to our upcoming overseas holiday and of course spending more time with them Aaron Drinkwater - Players' Player now that my football commitments are over.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with East Coast over the last ten years both as a player and as a coach. When we moved to Sydney on a three year secondment for my work, we were initially only going to be here for three years. However East Coast adopted me as one of their own, making our transition a lot easier and eventually we decided to make this our home. I have made some great friends during my time at East Coast and I am proud to call some of them my best friends. I have some lifelong bonds with players that I played with in the 2009 premiership and of course players that I coached in this year’s 2016 premiership. These bonds will never be broken.

I’ll sign my final coach’s report off with a quote from Big Chris out of Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels which is one of my favourite films.

Thanks East Coast. It’s been emotional!

Sanks....

PS: For those that are interested, our side was older this year than last year and in any other premiership year. However, we did kick against a slight breeze in the first quarter……..

EAST COAST EAGLES AFL FOOTBALL CLUB – 2016 YEAR BOOK

PLAYER MILESTONES REACHED DURING 2016

The Match Statistics sections for each grade are included alphabetically within the overall team reports elsewhere in the Year Book. However Page 64 has those same statistics, but ranked according to total number of First Grade games played for the East Coast Eagles in Premier Division in AFL Sydney and any NEAFL games played as the Sydney Hills Eagles in 2012, 2013 & 2014. These tables also include any Sydney AFL First Grade games played for Baulkham Hills (BHAFC) prior to and including 1999.

Following the recent statistics upgrade, we now also record and recognise those Eagles games played across all grades.

Sometime ago the decision was made to cease including BHAFC junior matches played after season 2008. Eventually, as those players who have progressed through from the BHAFC junior club take retirement, these statistics will appear as pure Eagles games played. However it is still historically important to also maintain a register of the number of games played for the “Club”. The definition of the “Club” for this purpose is all matches played with the Eagles (either East Coast or Sydney Hills) and BHAFC in any grade, or age group prior to and including 2008. These individual statistics are shown against each player’s name in the respective Match Statistics for each grade.

The manner in which milestones will be acknowledged in this and future Year Books is as follows:

• 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 etc senior First Grade games with the Eagles only. • 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 etc senior First Grade games. (Includes any First Grade games at BHAFC.) • 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 etc total Eagles games across all grades • 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 / 400 etc Club games across all Eagles’ grades and any matches played at BHAFC prior to 2008.

Congratulations to the following players who reached personal milestones during season 2016. Some players may be listed twice in different categories.

CLUB SENIOR MATCH STATISTICS

The table that follows includes those who have played for the Eagles since 2008 and who have played at least one (1) AFL Sydney Premier Division or NEAFL game.

An ongoing task for posterity is to continue the data collection back to the Year 2000 of all players who have played AFL Sydney First Grade matches for the Eagles since inception, whether currently playing or retired. Plus collate goal kicking records back to the year 2000.

Due to the complexity of this task, we invite any player who may feel their statistics may be wrong, to contact Paul Stewart on 0410 658941.
