Josué Hernández por brindarme su valiosa colaboración y orientación en el desarrollo de este trabajo. iii Resumen Evaluación de la Diversidad Malacológica del Pacifico de Nicaragua en la Playa de Poneloya 2017. Este trabajo investigativo relacionado con los moluscos marinos localizados en la Playa de Poneloya tiene la finalidad de evaluar la diversidad malacológica de esta zona de estudio, tomando como referencia la identificación de las diversas especies recolectadas en estanques naturales y modificados, tomando en cuenta sus características morfológicas además incorporando parámetros ambientales abióticos siendo estos la temperatura y el PH que son condiciones físicas que colaboran con el ambiente que propicia a la diversidad biológica que requieren los moluscos. Este grupo marino de moluscos representa fuente de alimento para los pobladores de la comunidad, además son productos de fácil comercialización .y son utilizados artesanalmente por los pobladores acostumbrados a explotar algunos grupos de especies presentes en el ecosistema, sin tener información acerca de las especies existentes en la zona Como consecuencia existe poco conocimiento de los moluscos, de tal forma que este trabajo investigativo es de mucha importancia porque permitirá aumentar la base de datos de la diversidad de moluscos en la zona de estudio al igual como el de la zona pacifica en general. Para realizar este trabajo investigativo de moluscos se aplicó un estudio descriptivo y puntual que permitió poder observar y a la vez inventariar los moluscos marinos de la zona, teniendo en cuenta una debida metodología, cuyos resultados fueron la identificación de 82 especies, organizados en 9 órdenes y 39 familias. iv Índice I. Accepted 11-V-2001) Abstract: The mollusks in Manuel Antonio National Park on the central section of the Pacific coast of Costa Rica were studied along thirty-six transects done perpendicular to the shore, and by random sampling of subtidal environments, beaches and mangrove forest. Seventy-four species of mollusks belonging to three classes and 40 families were found: 63 gastropods, 9 bivalves and 2 chitons, during this study in 1995. Of these, 16 species were found only as empty shells (11) or inhabited by hermit crabs (5). Forty-eight species were found at only one locality. Half the species were found at one site, Puerto Escondido. The most diverse habitat was the low rocky intertidal zone. Nodilittorina modesta was present in 34 transects and Nerita scabricosta in 30. Nodilittorina aspera had the highest density of mollusks in the transects. Only four transects did not clustered into the four main groups. The species composition of one cluster of transects is associated with a boulder substrate, while another cluster of transects associates with site.

The system (and frequently also the nomen- clature) of the Bivalvia are those employed in the "Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology, (N) Mollusca 6, Part I, Bivalvia, Volume 1 and 2". These volumes were issued in 1969 and contain the most modern system of the Bivalvia. For the Scaphopoda the system of Thiele (1935) is used. Since I published in 1968 a preliminary list of the marine Bivalvia of Suriname, several additions and changes have been made. I am indebted to Messrs. D. J. Green, R. H. Hill and P. G. E. F. Augustinus for having provided many new coastal records for several species.

Thirteen samplings were performed at 8 stations in 2012 (seven samplings), 2014 (four), and 2015 (two). The collection of the mollusks in each station was done at a maximum depth of 5 m for 1 h by 3 divers. A total of 2086 specimens belonging to 89 species, 36 families, and 3 classes of mollusks were identified. Gastropoda was the most diverse and abundant group. Calyptreaidae, Columbellidae, and Muricidae had >5 species, but Pisaniidae, Conidae, Fasciolariidae, and Muricidae had ≥15% of relative abundance. Most species found in this study were recorded in the rocky intertidal zone, and 10 species were restricted to the rocky subtidal zone. The affinity in the composition of the species during 2012–2015 had a low similarity (25%), but we could differentiate natural and anthropogenic effects according to malacological composition.

Summary: The Brazilian species Pustulatirus ogum and Hemipolygona beckyae were examined, and certain morphologi- cal characters were described. Both species were originally assigned to the genus Latirus, considered as a heterogeneous complex. The radulae of both species are like that which characterizes Latirus, in which the innermost cusp of the rachidian tooth is well developed but always smaller than the other cusps. This feature differs from Leucozonia, in which this cusp is reduced or absent. The penis tapers terminally, and the tapered part may be long (more than half the total penis length), as in H. beckyae, or very short (less than half the total penis length), as in P. ogum. The anatomical data observed in both species are discussed under the framework of fasciolariid systematics and they appear to be widespread among other fasciolariid spe- cies. For this reason, to date, the soft-part features here provided and those known from previously studied species of Latirus are not useful for delineating precise generic diagnoses.

D., Adjunct Curator of the Department of Mollusks. In the spring of 1876, Mr. W. J. Fisher, of San Francisco, who had previously, in 1873, been connected as Naturalist with the IT. S. S. Tuscarora Telegraph Sounding Expedition, under Commander George E. Belknap, conceived the idea of chartering or purchasing a small vessel and making an investigation of the shores and islauds of Lower California and the Gulf of California in the interest of natural history. Through the generosity of Mr. Fisher, the greater part of the mollusks collected by him were given to me, and became a part of the Stearns Collection, now incorporated into the greater collection of the IT. S. National Museum. Mr. Fisher's collection, though made, as it will be seen, many years ago, has not heretofore ))een brought to notice. Notwithstanding this lapse of time, its value, through the importance of the information it furnishes on the geographical distribution of most of the species enum- erated, has not been impaired by delay in publication, as no subsequent collector has touched at or visited so many localities around the shores of the Gulf and of Lower California, or if any such collection has been made it has not been made known. Many of the localities have not pre- viously been mentioned, either by collectors or authors. The impor- tance of Mr. Fisher's collection, in its bearing upon the Molhisca of the Tres Marias, is worthy of special mention; it would of itself justify the publication of the list, for it exhibits more fully the mollusk-fauna of this interesting and little-known group of islands, and includes a greater number of species than any and all previous publications.
