Fiscal Year 2014-2015 A Message from our Board Chairman Dear Friends of the Food Bank, It is my pleasure to bring you our 2014-2015 Annual Report. After six strong years of dedicated leadership as Chairman of the Board, Bob McNeil has stepped down as chair but remains actively involved in this dynamic organization. This year was exciting for the Food Bank as we expanded our staff, deepened our programming and reached farther into our communities where our neighbors are in need. Unfortunately, even in Chester County, hunger is a reality for many of those in our community. Since the inception of the Chester County Food Bank in 2009 our organization has continued a path of growth in an effort to meet the need of our neighbors and broaden our understanding of what it means to be the best Food Bank we can be for Chester County. In addition to our dedicated staff, our Board of Directors, our community partners and donors like you - we could not make anything happen without our thousands of volunteers. The generosity and impact that you and the community make in helping our neighbors is tremendous. Please know that we will work to be as efficient and effective as we possibly can be as we move forward. I feel strongly that we can all rally around the efforts we are making to alleviate hunger as we create new pathways to improve health and nutrition education in order to help those living in poverty in Chester County. Together we are strengthening our community and helping to feed our most vulnerable neighbors and move them from hunger to health. I thank you for your support and hope to see you in the coming year. Jeff March Board Chairman A Message from our Executive Director Dear Friends, Six years ago the vision of a Food Bank for Chester County came to fruition, and our original Board of Directors came together to set our mission and the things we believe in. We have remained true to our Founding Chairman Bob McNeil’s vision of providing the healthiest food possible and education about that food for the people we serve. Keeping in mind the successes of the past and the challenges of the future, we pause now to hold a mirror to ourselves and make sure what we were seeing wasn’t an illusion. So that every time we look at the things we believe in, like providing healthy food, nutrition education, teaching people to grow their own food, we ask ourselves: would we do that even if the cost were high? Made us move a little slower? Challenged us to look at or do things a little differently? Every day in the work of the Food Bank, we see in action the values that were set for us. And whether our staff is taking a call from someone needing food, meeting with state and federal legislators to advocate for program funding, making meals in our commercial kitchen or working with volunteers to pack food boxes or harvest the latest crop, you will see those values. As you examine this report you will notice that we have continued to build on our initial success in providing more and better food to our community. We know the work ahead will not be easy, but we believe that good things are possible and we will continue to carefully evaluate our work and take a fresh approach to the problems of hunger and poor nutrition in our county.     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE [email protected] MOON AREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-ATHLETE NAMED GATORADE PENNSYLVANIA GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY PLAYER OF THE YEAR CHICAGO (April 8, 2021) — In its 36th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company today announced Mia Cochran of Moon Area High School as its 2020-21 Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls Cross Country Player of the Year. Cochran is the first Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls Cross Country Player of the Year to be chosen from Moon Area High School. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Cochran as Pennsylvania’s best high school girls cross country player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Player of the Year award to be announced in April, Cochran joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Lukas Verzbicas (2010-11, 2009-10, Carl Sandburg High School, Orland Park, Ill.), Megan Goethals (2009-10, Rochester High School, Rochester Hills, Mich.), Jordan Hasay (2008-09, Mission College Preparatory Catholic High School, San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Chris Derrick (2007-08, Neuqua Valley High School, Naperville, Ill.). The 5-foot-5 junior won the Class AAA individual state championship this past season with a time of 18:28. Cochran also captured the District 7 championship, the PIAA Foundation Invitational and the Red, White & Blue Classic. She took ninth at the XC Town USA Meet of Champions. Cochran has served as a tutor for younger children and has volunteered locally on behalf of a nursing home.
