[email protected] Killeavy Club News Seniors start campaign with a draw Killeavy Lottery reaches new high It was not supposed to be like this. The start of the league Our lotto jackpot has now gone 35 weeks without being won season is normally signalled by beautiful spring like weather, and each week, it reaches a new high. For the first time ever, two teams playing fast, running football in front of a large we have hit the £6,000 mark. Just think of what you could do attendance eager to weigh up the prospects for a new season. with all that money!! Even if you don’t win, you can console What we got was very different – a gale force wind blowing yourself with the thought of all the club’s bills that you are right down the field, a sparse attendance huddled together for helping to pay. Thank you and good luck again this week. Last warmth and two teams struggling to find any footing on a heavy week’s numbers were: pitch. This was not one for the purist but both teams gave a display of rugged tenacity and the eventual draw was probably 1 17 23 26 deserved all round. There was NO winner of this week’s Jackpot - £5,900 Killeavy started the match without Steven McDonnell and Donal There were THREE Match Three Winners - £25 each O’Neill but with new acquisitions Barry McKevitt and Johnny NAME ADDRESS SELLER McKeefry getting their first competitive run outs. They also Mary Fagan Gilford Tom Mallon started with the aid of a ferocious gale but despite that it was Pauline McGuinness Newtown Road Club Killeavy Ballymacnab who put the first score on the board with a close in Damian McEvoy Tamnaghbane Rd Ann McEvoy free. The strength of the wind could be seen by the resulting kick out which cleared everyone and ran out for a goal kick at Promoter – £25 – Paul Mulkerns the other end. The wind made control impossible and was Prize Money this Week - £100 Jackpot Next Week almost as bad playing with it as against. The feeling was that Killeavy were not making the most of their opportunity as ball after ball went wide. Two frees from Ciaron O’Hanlon and Gerard Byrne were all they had to show for their efforts by the 20th minute and then they were rocked back when Ballymacnab scored a goal on a rare breakaway. Points from O’Hanlon and Stephen Malone brought Killeavy level before a high ball into £6,000 the Ballymacnab goalmouth dropped fortunately for O’Hanlon Ladies tune up for new season to fist to the net from a metre out. Half-time Ballymacnab 1.01 Our senior ladies warmed up for their first league game with an Killeavy 1.04 outing in the prestigious Clann Eireann sevens at the weekend. At half-time if would have been hard to find anyone favouring First up they drew with Killoe B from Longford before recording Killeavy’s chances but they really stepped it up in the second a good win over Ballyhegan but lost out to Donaghmoyne in half with James Donnelly, Stephen Malone, Johnny McKeefry their final group game. Three points was enough to claim and Ciaron O’Hanlon in particular getting through a mountain of second place in the group and they advanced to a quarter final work, clearing their lines time and time again. It was inevitable where they lost out to Killoe’s A team. that Ballymacnab would have the lion’s share of the play in the second half and they quickly narrowed the gap with a fisted point. Ciaron O’Hanlon then landed a magnificent pointed free to restore Killeavy’s advantage. Three points in a row from the home team saw them level going into the last five minutes and they also gave very close to claiming a match winning goal but the introduction of Steven McDonnell seemed to settle the Killeavy lads and it was Steven himself who put his team back into the lead with a pointed free. Killeavy will be a little bit disappointed that they couldn’t hold on and especially in the way that they conceded a free that allowed Ballymacnab to tie the game with the last kick of the match. Final score Ballymacnab 1.06 Killeavy 1.06 The effect of the wind was also the main story in Poyntzpass where Killeavy IIs travelled to start their Junior B campaign. This bulletin kindly sponsored by A great start with a Kevin McArdle goal, led to a 1.06 to 0.02 at half-time lead but they will be unhappy not to have scored more 54 Ayallogue Rd with such a strong wind advantage. Killeavy were outplayed in Killeavy the second half that saw them losing out by 2.10 to 1.09. The Newry team will be disappointed with the result, but there is time for Tel: (028) 3025 0397 Mob: 07974 636 887 Co. Down BT35 8RG improvement in this league. Conditions, if any, stipulated by Witness Nil File No. S.1666 Form Statement by John McCoy, Greenhills, Kill, Co. Kildare. I was born on a farm of about 70 acres in a bowl shaped valley surrounded with mountains in South Armagh. My mother who died when I was 15 years of age was an O'Hanlon. Her family claimed direct descent from the Princes of Orior who before the plantation of Ulster were the traditional standard bearers to the O'Neills, Princes of Tyrone. The last chieftain of the O'Hanlon clan was Redmond 0'Hanlon who at the time of the plantation of Ulster in or about 1670 was serving as an officer in the French Army and had been awarded the title of Count by the French Government. My earliest recollection of my mother was her recounting to me the successes and adventures of her famous forebearer who returned to Ulster to drive the Sassanagh out and deal in particular with the undertakers who had murdered his Ulster kith and kin and taken possession of his family lands in the neighbourhood of Tanderagee, Co. Armagh. I was told how this same Redmond O'Hanlon gathered together a body of men who were prepared to take up the hazardous endeavour of an Irish Rapparee in order to harass and dispossess the planters who had taken over all the rich lands of the area.

Nil File No. S.2249 Form B.S.M.2 STATEMENTBY FRANK DONNELLY, 15, Upper Irish Street, Armagh City. I joined the Irish Republican Brotherhood in the year 1917. Jim McCullough was the centre of the I.R.B. Circle into which I was introduced andinitiated. Amongst the older men in the Circle which I joined was my father, Jim McCullough and Terry Finn. Amongst the younger men was Fred Tobin who later joined the Guards in 1922 and is now a Carda Inspector. Shortly after I was initiated into the I.R.B. I was approached to join and did join the Irish Volunteers. The reorganisation of the Volunteers in 1917 was carried out locally by the I.R.B. and all the Volunteer officers were selected from members of the I.R.B. In all there were about fourteen members in our Circle. of the Irish Republican Brotherhood. The Circle met about twice a month and the business of the meeting was directed by the older members. Those older men had apparently been linked up with the I.R.B. organisation for some years before 1917 and they assumed a form of control over the activities of the younger members within the organisation.
