Biography

Mr. Nuno Mascarenhas was born in 1967 in Sines, in the Casa dos Pescadores (Fisherman's House), a now extinct social support organisation for the fishing community.

His childhood was spent with the local fishing community and, as a youth, he played in several teams of the local football club, Vasco da Gama Atlético Clube.

He has a degree in Economics, with an expertise in Economics and Finance and Industrial Economics and Sectoral Policies.

He was a professor of Mathematics and Economics.

In 2001, Mr. Nuno Mascarenhas took part in the Port of Sines Expansion Works Task Force, which supervised the expansion of the east side of the port (container terminal, LNG

From 2005 to 2013, he held functions as head of division at the Port of Sines Administration.

He was a councillor at the Sines Municipal Council in the 1998-2001, 2005-2009 and 2009- 2013 terms.

He took office on 12 October 2013 as mayor of Sines for the 2013-2017 term, elected in the Socialist Party lists.

On 1 October 2017, he was re-elected mayor for the 2017-2021 term.
