This is a good thing if you already understand that there is more to identity than personality, and more to being alive than your physical body, but if you are new to the idea that who you are is multi leveled and best viewed as increasingly larger wholes, then this book may be a bit of an overwhelm, as some comments have already indicated. That said, the teachings have become more nuanced over Journey of Your Soul: A Channel Explores the Michael Teachings years and Journey of Your Soul: A Channel Explores the Michael Teachings more profound and if you want to explore this territory in some depth, then this is the book to get. Shepherd Hoodwin has done a superb job of organizing what we know into an easily accessible manual of the teachings which all Michael students eventually turn to in order to settle nagging questions and to fill in gaps in their understanding of the whole. In additional to being extremely informative, it's also very entertaining, not surprising given that Mr. Hoodwin is a Sage. I highly recommend this book for both beginning and advanced Michael students! This is an excellent book. It is a completely different way of describing the Universe, from the most basic personality traits to the structure of the Universe itself, written in a style that engages the reader through organizational systems, real-life examples, and a touch of humor, that allows any reader to easily understand the content, whether they are well-versed in Metaphysical theory or a casual observer looking for an interesting read. It is written by a channel and multi-skilled writer named Shepherd Hoodwin, who has nearly 30 years of experience working in the field and is also something of a follow-up to "Messages from Michael", for those familiar with the field. It would best be Journey of Your Soul: A Channel Explores the Michael Teachings as an outside the box viewpoint on a combination of subjects, ranging from human personality to quantum physics. Regardless of one's position in life, it will make even the most skeptical person stop to ponder the realities that they've taken for granted their entire life, as well as put a unique spin on concepts as far-reaching as life after death, to why do cats act the way they do? All in all, the best book I've read in a very long time and I would highly recommend it to anyone, whether they are searching for meaning in life, or just a different viewpoint on events that happen everyday. Shepherd Hoodwin is, in my opinion, a talented medium and writer. The information it contains is presented in a well-organized, logical fashion. As this spark, we each decided a long time ago to begin a great journey or adventure that might be called planetary sentience. To be sentient, as Michael defines it, is to have consciousness that is complex enough to be capable of purely intellectual function, such as self-awareness and long-range planning. To be a planetary sentient is to play a particular game the universe offers that involves coming to the physical plane of a planet such as earth, inhabiting a life form such as the human form, and experiencing what that planet and life form have to offer. When we’re done, we ascend through the higher planes until we’re fully reabsorbed back into the Tao. That whole loop, from the Tao, through the physical plane and each of the six higher planes, and back to the Tao is called a grand cycle. In order to do a grand cycle, we need a vehicle, something that will anchor us into the seven-plane dimensional universe and carry us along this journey. That vehicle is called the essence, or soul.     Grand Cycles Comparison of Grand Cycles in Michael Students What is a grand cycle? A “grand cycle” is defined as an “experience that begins when one’s essence [aspect] is cast from the Tao/Source/All That Is. It includes physical-plane incarnations and subsequent progression through the higher planes. It is complete when essence is fully reabsorbed back into the Tao [or integrated back into your True Energetic Self]. When you return to the Tao, you have completed that cycle with the physical plane. You can remain there indefinitely or begin another cycle. Those who go on to new cycles often choose to experience the physical plane from the point of view of a different essence role, in another entity, with a different essence twin, and on a different planet. This variety gives you and the universe depth of experience. Michael Teachings Glossary Note: According to Michael, the average number of cycles completed by human beings prior to becoming human is 3-4, whereas for whales and dolphins it is over 6 cycles (higher than average humanity). Readers may provide it freely and privately to other students of the Michael Teachings. It is not suitable as an introduction to the MT, or for people who are not yet mature students. Note especially that word “privately.” Readers do not have permission to publicly distribute this document or any portion thereof. The reason for this is explained below. SOME HISTORY In 1973, a few spiritual seekers in the San Francisco Bay area made contact through the Ouija board with a source of information that came to be known as “Michael.” In this document this will be referred to as The Original Michael Group – TOMG for short. The messages, amounting to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of pages, were handwritten or tape recorded at the time of reception. They were then typewritten, and photocopies were distributed to the members of the group. The group grew in number over the next two years until the summer of 1975, when the large group ceased their regular meetings. Afterwards, a core group of friends continued to meet occasionally to receive messages, and some private sessions were held until about 1983. This document is the actual, although incomplete, story of that group. A fictionalized account of TOMG was published in 1979 (in hardcover edition) by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro in her book, Messages from Michael (hereinafter abbreviated to “MFM”).
