The Jewish Federation’s 99th Annual meeting will begin at 3:00 pm followed by an interfaith event that is part of the Jewish Federation’s 100th Anniversary Commemoration: Fun at Gan “Voices for respectful dialogue,” sponsored by JCRC. Shalom - page 10 Speakers for this event include Professor Harold Kasimow, Professor Harold professor emeritus of religion at Grinnell College and Engman Camp Shalom is gearing up for Kasimow participants in interreligious dialogue in Iowa and another incredible summer of fun and internationally, and Pastor Carlos Ortiz, a leader within adventure! Needless to say, I am reflective. Decades ago, upon reading “The Chambered of the Jewish Community Nautilus” for the first time, I felt not only a kinship with the beautiful little creature but R elations Committee also such admiration for the depth of commitment that kept him ceaselessly moving forward. As a parent, I have always counseled my children to make decisions that keep them moving forward. As a social worker, I do the same for those with whom I work. Nonetheless, the wonderful leaders Beit Sefer Shalom in this community have stepped forward, and it is G abrielle Callistein, Chair my opinion that we are in a different and exciting Jewish Community R elations place today. My deepest hope is that now we are a Jarad Bernstein, Chair bit kinder to one another and a little happier with Jewish Family Services our Jewish lives together. Mark John Conley, Chair I am leaving the Federation to the care of our next president, Jule Goldstein. Jule ushers in a new generation and vision and, more importantly, has already proven her Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center leadership and devotion to the Federation as she and her husband, Steven, led the effort Jon Fleming, President to build our wonderful school. David Adelman will join her as her president-elect. The Iowa Jewish H istorical Society Federation is in excellent hands. Melanie Sandler, President I cannot leave without thanking you, my Jewish friends, for three absolutely Board Members-at-Large wonderful years! I have had a ball. And unlike the industrious little chambered nautilus R abbi Levi G oldstein that leaves his beautiful shell only to die, I intend to pay a bit more attention to my Jami Schnoebelen beloved family, friends, and dogs, to sleep a little better, and to continue to nourish this Jewish community in any way that I can.
