Lieutenant General Jaromír ALAN Lieutenant General Jaromír Alan enlisted in 1986 during his study at the Military Technical University where he achieved Master degree in electrical engineering. He started his military service career as a fire platoon commander at SA-6 air defence missile regiment and has completed many duties within the ground based air defence (GBAD) up to level of Chief of the National GBAD. He also has a ten-year experience in capability and force planning. His background and inputs were successfully used in the preparation of the 2025 Czech Armed Forces Development Concept and development concepts of individual services. Lieutenant General Alan has combat experience from deployment in the operations in the Balkans. Given his assignment with the Czech Delegation to NATO HQ, Brussels (2011-14) as the Chief of Staff, he obtained considerable experience at the highest levels and a thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures in the NATO Military Committee. In the position of the Director of the MoD Capability Planning Division, he also acted as the Capability Director of Czech Armed Forces and the Chief of Transformation, being responsible for all aspects of the national planning process, including the NATO and EU implications. LTG Alan also served in the capacity of the Head of the Czech delegation to the European Defence Agency (EDA) Steering Board which supervises national force development for all EU Member States, including the overall Capability Development Plan. In cooperation between the Czech Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, LTG Alan was responsible for the practical implementation of inspections and verifications under the international treaties on Conventional Arms Control (Vienna Document) and Open Skies. In 2016-18, he also acted as the Chairman of the Reserve Forces Committee (NRFC), which reports to the NATO Military Committee. As of 1st November 2020, the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic assigned Lieutenant General Jaromír Alan as the Czech Military Representative to NATO and the European Union. Lieutenant General Jaromír Alan is married to Renáta and they have son Martin (1987) and daughter Markéta (1992).
