Income for 2014 was 0.4% over 2013, and nearly 10% over 2012, but unfortunately well under budget. Swim school and lane hire have remained strong, with excellent numbers for Aquajogging, Swim for Fitness, water polo and school sport aqua programs. Visit numbers have dropped by almost 13% from last year which can be attributed to continuing parking issues for community patrons, with very few vacant spaces in the former ovals car park due to construction of the sciences teaching building over 2014. Unfortunately, the Sports Hub parking is at capacity in peak times and the inability of potential swimmers to find a parking space is still the most frequently reported complaint received. 2 UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG Aquatic Income and Expenses The table below outlines the UOW Aquatic Centre’s income • Increase in Term bookings in Term 2 and Term 3, with the success performance over the last 12 months compared to the previous of the Autumn promotion and other merchandise promotions.

  • Edgeware Pool
    4. POOL DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL – EDGEWARE POOL Officer responsible Author Community and Recreation Manager Lyall Matchett and Peter Walls, DDI 941-8293 The purpose of this report is to update the Community and Leisure Committee on options relating to the recent deputation by Mr John Davies on behalf of the Canterbury Water Polo Association for upgrading Edgeware Pool for use as a water polo training centre – summer months only. The presentation identified that Edgeware Pool may be a suitable venue for the Association to develop in conjunction with the Council. Council staff were then asked to report back to the Committee on the proposal, including costs and demolition costs, existing usage rights, staffing, any other private/Council proposals and where this would fit into the Aquatic Facility Strategy which is being developed for the Council. NEED FOR ADDITIONAL DEEP WATER FOR WATER POLO At the present time the only suitable depth facilities available for water polo in Christchurch is at Queen Elizabeth II Park in the dive well and 50 metre pool. The use of water space by polo excludes other users – so this has an impact on the facility and availability for other users. The boom at QEII to convert the 51m pool to 2 metre x 25 metre pools is only used for specific events – not everyday use. Water polo has therefore indicated the need for additional water space in the city. They also advised that this space should be located preferably away from QEII to provide access for schools and participants on the western side of the city and to enable clubs to be established from other venues.

  • Gijón Candidacy to European City of Sport 2016 Gijón Candidacy to European City of Sport 2016
Gijón candidacy to European City of Sport 2016 Gijón candidacy to European City of Sport 2016 - 1 - Gijón and sport go hand in hand When thinking of an image of Gijón it is very likely that sport will come to mind. Our city is open to the sea, looks up to the sky and is a close to the mountains. We are a reference along the Cantabrian coast in terms of sports facilities which host activities, tournaments and championships that each year attract thousands of vi- sitors. With this philosophy, Gijón has found a place on the national and international sporting map thanks to events like the Davis Cup semi-final between Spain and USA in 2012, the 2011 Duathlon World Championship, the 2011 European Baseball Championship, the 2008 World Skating Championship, the five star CSIO Interna- tional Horse Show, the 2014 World Climbing Championship, and the 2015 Eurobas- ket warm-up match between Spain and Belgium that will take place this August. The relationship between Gijón and sport is a constant throughout the year and is lived passionately by the people of the city, both men and women. In addition, the city has idyllic surroundings in which sportspeople, family and friends can enjoy enriching experiences in superb settings. Reasons abound for the people of Gijón to be proud of our city and to encourage our visitors to take with them the best memories of our town. It would be an honour for the Principality of Asturias, and especially for Gijón, to enjoy a designation of this importance, because our city is committed to sport as a fundamental pillar in the development of people and the development of values.
