Dubai Debuts Driverless Minibus 2 September 2016 Dubai debuts driverless minibus 2 September 2016 Thursday's test run was "the first and very important stage in our efforts to introduce this type of vehicle into Dubai's transport network," RTA official Ahmed Bahrozyan told AFP. Mattar al-Tayer, the RTA's director general, said it aimed to have a quarter of all Dubai transport automated by 2030. Dubai is a leading tourist destination in the Gulf, attracting 14.2 million visitors in 2015. © 2016 AFP Dubai has launched a driverless ten-seater minibus service on a trial basis for a month Dubai has unveiled its first driverless bus service, launching a month-long trial period for the electric vehicle with a view to expanding it across the futuristic Gulf city state. The 10-seat vehicle made its first trip on Thursday along a 700-metre (2,300-foot) stretch of road in downtown Dubai, near to the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower. Developed jointly by French group Easy Mile and Dubai-based Omnix, the minibus is powered by an electric motor and can hit speeds of 40 kilometres per hour (25 miles per hour). But, thanks to cutting-edge guidance technology, its developers say the bus can adapt its speed to the surrounding environment and even come to a complete halt if a pedestrian were to cross its path. It can be programmed to navigate between Dubai's main tourist attractions, including the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera and the Souk al- Bahar shopping centre, the emirate's Road Transport Authority (RTA) said in a statement. 1 / 2 APA citation: Dubai debuts driverless minibus (2016, September 2) retrieved 29 September 2021 from https://phys.org/news/2016-09-dubai-debuts-driverless-minibus.html This document is subject to copyright. Dubai 2020: Dreamscapes, Mega Malls and Spaces of Post-Modernity Dubai’s hosting of the 2020 Expo further authenticates its status as an example of an emerging Arab city that displays modernity through sequences of fragmented urban- scapes, and introvert spaces. The 2020 Expo is expected to reinforce the image of Dubai as a city of hybrid architectures and new forms of urbanism, marked by technologically advanced infrastructural systems. This paper revisits Dubai’s spaces of the spectacle such as the Burj Khalifa and themed mega malls, to highlight the power of these spaces of repre- sentation in shaping Dubai’s image and identity. • For Festivals/Events/Organizations Who Generated Publicity Through a Media Stunt to Promote Their Event/Cause Etc.)
Most Creative / Effective News Stunt (For Festivals/Events/Organizations who generated publicity through a media stunt to promote their event/cause etc.) 1. Overview Information: Please provide a detailed overview explaining the following, using no more than one (1) page to explain each section: a. Introduction & background of campaign / event “Eid in Dubai” was launched in 2008 by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in Dubai (DTCM). It came third in line in the portfolio of mega-events organized by DFRE, after the world renowned Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) in 1996, and Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) in 1998. While DSF aims at promoting Dubai as a shopping destination, and DSS promotes the emirate as a summer holiday destination, ‘Eid in Dubai’ was launched as a social/cultural celebration inspired by the values of the Islamic “Eid” which is celebrated by millions of Muslims around the world twice a year during Eid Al Fitr following Ramadan, the month of fasting, and Eid Al Adha, following the annual Hajj, or Pilgrimage. The “Eid in Dubai” campaign supported the concept of Dubai as a year-round destination by promoting Dubai as a destination of choice for tourists during the Eid holidays. The festival was built around the values traditionally associated with Eid, which is all about giving, sharing and togetherness along with the region’s deep-rooted hospitality and cultural traditions, including gift-giving among family and friends. DFRE embraces these values in all the events and festivities that are included in its “Eid in Dubai” activities.

THE DUBAI LOGISTICS CLUSTER Alanood Bin Kalli, Camila Fernandez Nova, Hanieh Mohammadi, Yasmin Sanie-Hay, Yaarub Al Yaarubi MICROECONOMICS OF COMPETITENESS COUNTRY OVERVIEW The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates, each governed by its own monarch. The seven Emirates - Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain - jointly form the Federal Supreme Council, which chooses a president every five years. Since independence from Britain in 1971, the ruler of Abu Dhabi has been elected as the president, while the ruler of Dubai has been elected as the Vice President and Prime Minister. Abu Dhabi serves as the capital and each emirate enjoys a high degree of autonomy. The country is strategically located in the Middle East, bordering the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea, Oman and Saudi Arabia. It occupies a total area of 83,600 km2 with around 1,318 km of coastline1. The population is estimated to be 9.3 million in 2015 with only 13% nationals2. UAE Economic Performance The UAE is an oil rich country, with most of its oil and gas production coming from Abu Dhabi. The country was ranked eighth worldwide in terms of oil and gas production in 2012 and seventh in terms of reserves3. Since the UAE’s establishment, oil revenues have been used strategically to develop basic infrastructure and provide UAE citizens with government services including subsidized utilities, free education, and medical services. As a result of oil price fluctuation, the country has understood the importance of diversifying away from this resource and started to develop its petrochemical sector.
