From the beginning the intention of the authors was to create a forum for the exchange of up to date research results and their transfer into teaching and coaching practice. Science in Swimming passes the message that swimming as an element of physical culture is developed thanks to the involvement of teachers, trainers, and passionate research scientists. The monograph included works devoted to the issues of learning and teaching swimming, swimming training, recreational swimming and swimming for the disabled. Both the broad spectrum of issues presented in the monograph, and the interpretation obtained by the authors of the research results have a well-estab- lished base in the fields of the humanities, teaching physical education, pedagogy, psychology, biology, physiology and biomechanics. The tangible result of research activities is to obtain objective feedback from the research subject, i.e. the people who learn to swim, or train swimming, or simply people who treat swimming as recreational activity. The concept of “Science and Swimming” and the level of research published in subsequent editions of the monograph gave it a permanent place in world special- ist publications, which is confirmed by the positive reviews of the opinion leaders in the International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education [2012, 6 (4), 366–367 and 2013, (7), 407–408]. According to the reviews, “Science in Swimming” is a source of unique knowledge, exchange of ideas and a place for establishing cooperation creating new quality in the science of swimming. We therefore offer our sincere thanks to the authors of published works and their reviewers: Professors Tadeusz Bober, Robert Keig Stallman and dr Jarosław Do ma- radzki (Associate Professor of University School of Physical Education, Wroclaw) whose work hard contributed significantly to the Science in Swimming V. Editors CHAPTER I DIDACTICS IN SWIMMING Science in swimming V, 2014, 6–22 Sport as a utopian competition of equal opportunities1 Andrzej Pawłucki University School of Physical Education in Wrocław, Poland [email protected] Abstract The paper discusses a causal model of pursuance of a sport utopia. By way of a regres- sive analysis, reaching back to the primary metaphysical premises, it explains the key reasons for achieving the sport utopia. The recent cases of breaking the sport ontic order by sprinters and swimmers, who violated the rules of proper conduct in their personal lives, show how easily the state of sport anti-utopia can be reached. The applied regressive analysis model reveals that the success of sport utopia, being a variety of social utopia, is determined by authoritative judges managing the common good of the sport family. There is a reason why the sport community is referred to as the sport family. Maintaining familial relationships is a utopia itself, i.e. a daunting but feasible task. And although the hope of each family, also of the “sport family”, are its children, only the adult family members – capable of assuming the respon- sibility for the common good – can maintain order in the family and render all its activities sensible. Similarly, the successful organization of competitions in a sport family aimed at perfection according to the family’s ideals is only possible, if the order of competitions is preserved by: a) judges-categorizers responsible for main- taining sexual-somatic equality; b) judges-classifiers responsible for ontic equality (extra-sexual physicality) of the gymansion ascetics; c) judges-exposers responsi- ble for revealing ontic inequalities of doping abusers; and d) judges-moderators responsible for the moral equality between competitors. If it had not been for these judges’ authoritative enforcement of moral and ontic equality among athletes, then – without diminishing the athletes’ contribution to the creation of fair competition – it could be assumed that the liberally, relativistically and individualistically disposed athletes would not have been able to tackle their humanistic tasks by themselves. Key words: sport, fairness, fair play, morality, moral relativism INTRODUCTION The recent cases of violation of the ontic order by sprinters – who deceived themselves, their competitors and the stadium community – and by swimmers, who are allegedly members of the Olympic family, but play nice children from good families in daylight, and then at night, show their true face attending houses of ill repute seeking filthy en- tertainment, show how easily one can destroy the sport order. Thus, sport as a system of meanings can transfer any values, being at the same time a pragmatic way of arguing in the practice of social life. An example we analyze, are the events that took place after Poland (and Ukraine) had been chosen to be host countries of UEFA EURO 2012™, as well as those which took place during the tournament itself. In these analyses, we use the concept of semiotics and, in particular, pragmatism as well as Charles Sanders Peirce’s triadic sign relation. KEYWORDS UEFA EURO 2012, sport, values, semiotics, Peirce Introduction In free and democratic Poland, member of the European Union since 2004, a tournament of the size and importance of the European Championship was organized for the first time in 2012. In April 2007, UEFA 1 chose Poland and Ukraine (non-EU member) as host countries of UEFA EURO 2012™. This measurably influenced a whole body of political, economic, and social processes that took place within the country. After five years of preparation, the tournament took place in June 2012 in sports facilities the majority of which were built or renovated especially for this purpose; and the final match was played in the stadium in Kiev, Ukraine, on 1 July 2012.

Social Media Events Abstract Audiences are at the heart of every media event. They provide legitimation, revenue and content and yet, very few studies systematically engage with their roles from a communication perspective. This dissertation strives to fill precisely this gap in knowledge by asking how do social media audiences participate in global events? What factors motivate and shape their participation? What cultural differences emerge in content creation and how can we use the perspectives of global audiences to better understand media events and vice versa? To answer these questions, this dissertation takes a social-constructivist perspective and a multiple-method case study approach rooted in discourse analysis. It explores the ways in which global audiences are imagined and invited to participate in media events. Furthermore, it investigates how and why audiences actually make use of that invitation via an analytical framework I elaborate called architectures of participation (O’Reilly, 2004). This dissertation inverts the predominant top-down scholarly gaze upon media events – a genre of perpetual social importance – to present a much needed bottom-up intervention in media events literature. It also provides a more nuanced understanding of what it means to be a member of ‘the audience’ in a social media age, and further advances Dayan and Katz’ (1992) foundational media events theory.

Abstract Sport video gamers, as a huge population, have been studied descriptively in terms of the demographic and motivation for playing. Yet most studies paid attention to the relationship between gamers and the video game. A gap remains between sport video gaming and its effects on gamers’ attitude toward the exact sport they are playing in the game. Through the Elaboration Likelihood Model lens, the current study aimed to examine the effects of sport video gaming on gamers’ confidence in the sport as well as desire to play the sport. A pretest-posttest experimental design was conducted to investigate the causality between gaming and confidence and desire change. As the first application of ELM to sport video game, the current study incorporated the classic route shift pattern in persuasion to predict the improvement of gamers’ confidence and desire after game playing.

Secondly, to propose the model through merging the sport celebrity endorsement constructs with brand positioning constructs by drawing together and to develop the scale for measuring brand positioning through celebrity endorsement based on existing literature. The target population of the study consists of 305 team athletes whose age average is 20.45 ± 4.68 and who are training with the same trainer for average of 2.01 ± 1.69 years and from basketball, football and volleyball branches. In this study, “Moral Disengagement in Sport” and “Athlete’s Perception about Coaches’ Unethical Behaviors” scales have been used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics, t test, ANOVA and Pearson Correlation analysis were used for the analysis of data. According to the findings of the study, it was observed that there was a positive low level of correlation between moral disengagement and athlete’s perception about unethical behaviors of the coach. Younger athletes have a higher perception about unethical behavior they perceived from coaches.

In archetypoid analysis each datum is expressed as a mixture of 21 actual observations (archetypoids). Therefore, it allows us to identify not only 22 extreme athletes and teams, but also the composition of other athletes (or 23 teams) according to the archetypoid athletes, and to establish a ranking. The 24 utility of archetypoids in sports is illustrated with basketball and soccer data 25 in three scenarios. Rather than imagining that there is a single “magic wand” solution, drawing on lessons from other industries and contexts, the culture of corruption rife in both Olympic and professional sports can instead be tackled through a range of tools. Inspired by the idea of “moral repair”, and the Ethics of Care approach, a number of risk reduction strategies, including: engaging in collaborative partnerships with law enforcement, strengthening legislative and regulatory frameworks, prioritising athlete welfare and supporting good governance, including promoting gender equality and ethical leadership, have been outlined. WOMEN AND OLYMPIC GAMES: MEDIA COVERAGE Marija Vujović*, Marta Mitrović, Neven Obradović University of Niš, Faculty of Philosophy, Niš, Serbia * [email protected] Abstract Despite the fact that women have succeeded in their effort to have equal participation in the Summer Olympics, the public image of them is still predominantly stereotyped, which this study proves. The subject of analysis in this paper are narrative articles and photographs about male athletes and female athletes in sports sections, especially in the Olympic specials and the front pages of the best-selling daily newspaper in Serbia, Blic, during the Olympic Games, from July 27th to August 13th 2012. Hypotheses that the authors want to prove deal with the assumption that male athletes are often more represented in media than female athletes, and that the articles about women are often stereotyped. Some of the most frequent stereotypes are those which describe women as feminine, beautiful or sexual objects, as well as like someone's mother, wife or girlfriend, also, as infantile, emotional or irritable, or maybe those are just some irrelevant articles that do not talk about sport activities of female athletes. The Olympic Games in London are significant because, for the first time in history, women were equated with men in the sports in which both genders participate.
