THE POSITION: Reporting directly to Anthony J. Mazzarelli, MD, JD, MBE, Co-President, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for the strategic planning and operational leadership for Patient Care Services. The CNO is a registered professional nurse who is an integral member of the executive leadership team and responsible for the standard of nursing practice throughout the hospital and in all settings where nursing care, treatment and services are delivered. - 2 - COOPER UNIVERSITY HEALTH CARE Chief Nursing Officer The CNO holds comprehensive responsibility for the assessment, problem identification, outcome identification, planning, implementation and coordination of all processes that impact the quality and quantity of care delivered to the patients at Cooper University Health Care. The CNO communicates collaboratively with members of the senior team to achieve broad organizational goals based on Cooper’s organizational pillars. The CNO interacts with and contributes to the professional development of colleagues and collaborates with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, physicians, executive leaders and other stakeholders. The CNO is responsible for assuring the integration of ethical provisions in all areas of practice, integrating research findings into practice, and considering factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost and impact of resources utilized in the planning and delivery of nursing and other services. The CNO collaborates with other senior leaders/partners to initiate change and promote positive cultural and quality improvements. This executive will provide leadership in the professional- practice setting and the profession, and acts as an advocate for the protections and rights of individuals, families, communities, populations, healthcare providers, nursing, and other professions and institutions and organizations, especially related to health and safety. It is important for this CNO to promote a just culture and embrace Cooper’s journey toward a highly reliable organization. The CNO adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANA Scope and Standard for Nursing Practice, and the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies. In addition, the successful candidate will be a strong, collaborative, confident, results-oriented, and decisive leader with the capacity to balance the big picture and strategic perspective with a focus on operations and the details of execution. THE CANDIDATE: The selected candidate will have a proven track record of positively affecting the patient experience and standardization of care. He/she will possess a hands-on, highly visible and approachable leadership style, and will possess strong process improvement skills and a solid understanding of ambulatory and population health management. The chosen candidate will possess a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in nursing leadership at a director level and above; and a minimum of 10 years of experience in provision of patient care in a hospital environment. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required, along with current licensure as an RN in New Jersey, or licensure in a compact state that allows practice in New Jersey, or the ability to acquire licensure in New Jersey. A master’s degree in nursing, hospital administration, business administration, or related field is required; a Doctor of Nursing degree is highly preferred. A national certification in nursing administration is preferred.
