ROAD TO SUCCESS Bernadette Marten Teeley came to the University of Dayton on an academic scholarship, and was introduced to rowing her freshman year, a moment that changed the rest of her life.

The Fortville, Ind. native chose UD because it was a top-tier Catholic university in the Midwest, and it didn’t hurt that both her parents were Dayton alums. The Flyer rowing program made an impact on Marten Teeley that resounds with her still to this day. She married Brendan Teeley, also a collegiate rower. She is the Executive Director of the Indianapolis Rowing Center and was recently appointed to the U.S. Rowing Masters Committee.

Marten rowed four years at UD – three seasons when it was still a club sport – and competed as a varsity athlete for one season as a Flyer. A two-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches As- sociation All-American, Marten led UD to a third-place Atlantic 10 finish in 2000.

After earning her degree from UD, Marten Teeley went to graduate school at the University of Michigan where she com- pleted her collegiate rowing career, helping the Wolverines to a third-place team finish at the NCAA championships.

She received her graduate degree and then joined the U.S. Na- tional Team. The Flyers had six in this year’s class: Ali Girten, Beth Eckstein, Kerri Kramer, Lauren Jabir, Molly Chipman, and Sadie Wonders.

They had a big impact,” said Wenker. “The seniors are one of the most successful classes we had on the water and in the classroom. I wish the seniors all the best.” Dayton had the most All-Academic performers in the Atlantic 10 conference with seniors Lauren Jabir and Sadie Wonders, and junior Haley Murrell all being rec- ognized. As far as performance accolades in the A-10, senior Molly Chipman was named first team All-Conference in the A-10 for her efforts on the water.

The team awards were given out at the banquet in April by Coach Wenker. Wonders was named the White Allen Most Outstanding Rower in 2013. Chipman was named Most Improved Rower for the second time in the past three seasons. Allie Rogers earned the Outstanding Novice Rower honor as a freshman.
