Clinical manifestations vary and are classified as visceral larva migrans or ocular larva migrans according to the organs affected. Central nervous system involvement is an unusual complication. Here, we report a case of multiple cerebral infarction and concurrent multi-organ involvement due to T. canis infestation of a previous healthy 39-year- old male who was admitted for right leg weakness. After treatment with albendazole, the patient’s clinical and laboratory results improved markedly. The cause of taeniasis in humans are Taenia solium, Taenia saginata and Taenia asiatica. Taeniasis is one of the neglected diseases and is an unsolved problem in the world because it corelates with human behavior and lifestyle. Material and Methode: The survey was conducted from September 2017 until November 2017 ini Nagori Dolok, Village, Silau Kahaean Sub-district, Simalungun Regency, Sumatra Utara Proince, Indonesia We met some of the people who had been Taeniasis patients and conveyed the purpose of the team's arrival. From 180 patients we suspect as Taenia carriers by clinical signs and physical examination and microscopic examination of eggs and proglottid worm that passing with feces or by anal swab. Result: From 180 suspected taenia carriers, we confirmed 171 patients diagnosed as Taeniasis and we treated by Praziquantel Tablet single dose and laxative. All of patients passing proglottids (segment of the worms), taenia eggs and proglottids strands. The longest proglottids strands that we found were 10.5 meters. Conclusion: Taeniasis (Tapeworm infection) is still widely found in the district Simalungun Regency which is negleted tropical disease that needs to get the attention of the Indonesia government through the Health Office of Regency and Province. -

SUMMARY: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or Agency), in response to suggestions submitted to the public docket FDA-2008-N-0567, between June 20, 2018, and November 21, 2018, has analyzed whether the foodborne trematode infection clonorchiasis meets the statutory criteria for designation as a “tropical disease” for the purposes of obtaining a priority review voucher (PRV) under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act), namely whether it primarily affects poor and marginalized populations and whether there is “no significant market” for drugs that prevent or treat clonorchiasis in developed countries. The Agency has determined at this time that clonorchiasis does not meet the statutory criteria for addition to the tropical diseases list under the FD&C Act. Although clonorchiasis disproportionately affects poor and marginalized populations, it is an infectious disease for which there is a significant market in developed nations; therefore, FDA declines to add it to the list of tropical diseases. However, based on the images and clinical presentation, it was impossible to distinguish between C. sinensis and Opisthorchis spp; thus opisthorchiasis would have been acceptable as an alternative diagnosis. Key morphologic features can be seen below: OS = oral sucker, PH = thick, muscular pharynx, CE = branching intestinal cecum, UT = uterus filled with eggs, VT = vitteline glands, OP = operculum at one end of the egg, KN = abopercular knob at the other end of the egg. Note the adult fluke – slender shape to get into the bile duct. Also note the egg (approximately 30 microns, one of the smallest helminth eggs found in humans. Life Cycle. The definitive hosts of C. sinensis are humans, dogs, hogs, cats, martens, badgers, mink, weasels, and rats. Adult worms deposit eggs in the bile ducts, and the eggs are discharged with the bile fluid into the feces and passed out into the environment. The adult worm is a small trematode with an elliptical shape and an average length of 10 to 25 mm. The trematode is a true hermaphrodite (both sexes in the same worm) and has a life span of 20 to 25 years, which explains the persistent infection for a long duration. -

Affecting the world’s poorest people, fasciolosis, opisthorchiasis, clonorchiasis and schistosomiasis cause severe disability; hinder growth, productivity and cognitive development; and can end in death. Children are often disproportionately affected. F. hepatica and F. gigantica are also the most important trematode flukes parasitising ruminants and cause substantial economic losses annually. Mass drug administration (MDA) programs for the control of these liver and blood fluke infections are in place in a number of countries but treatment coverage is often low, re-infection rates are high and drug compliance and effectiveness can vary. Furthermore, the spectre of drug resistance is ever-present, so MDA is not effective or sustainable long term. Vaccination would provide an invaluable tool to achieve lasting control leading to elimination. This review summarises the status currently of vaccine development, identifies some of the major scientific targets for progression and briefly discusses future innovations that may provide effective protective immunity against these helminth parasites and the diseases they cause. Since praziquantel was first introduced as a broadspectrum anthelmintic in 1975, innumerable articles describ- ing its successful use in the treatment of the majority of human-infecting trematodes and cestodes have been published. The target trematode and cestode diseases include schistosomiasis, clonorchiasis and opisthorchiasis, paragonimiasis, het- erophyidiasis, echinostomiasis, fasciolopsiasis, neodiplostomiasis, gymnophalloidiasis, taeniases, diphyllobothriasis, hyme- nolepiasis, and cysticercosis. However, Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica infections are refractory to praziquantel, for which triclabendazole, an alternative drug, is necessary. In addition, larval cestode infections, particularly hydatid disease and sparganosis, are not successfully treated by praziquantel. The precise mechanism of action of praziquantel is still poorly understood. Currently, it is estimated that more than 200 million people are at risk of C. sinensis infection, and over 15 million are infected worldwide. C. sinensis infection is closely related to cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), fibrosis and other human hepatobiliary diseases; thus, clonorchiasis is a serious public health problem in endemic areas. This article reviews the current knowledge regarding the epidemiology, disease burden and treatment of clonorchiasis as well as summarizes the techniques for detecting C. sinensis infection in humans and intermediate hosts and vaccine development against clonorchiasis. Newer data regarding the pathogenesis of clonorchiasis and the genome, transcriptome and secretome of C. sinensis are collected, thus providing perspectives for future studies. These advances in research will aid the development of innovative strategies for the prevention and control of clonorchiasis.
