And at Force One we are happy to confirm our EDITO role as skipper of exclusivity, luxury and joie de vivre. The journey begins on the most iconic yacht of the past thirty years: Lady Moura who welcomes us for the last cocktail before #28 the lockdown, an incredible Force One Night. It then continues by stopping by two giants of style: Balenciaga and Gucci. The correspondence with our loved ones is made with the elegant paper (and not only) creations of Pinaider. With a lot of imagination ;-)) we take our boat to the French Alps for the usual partnership with the best hotels and private chalets in Megève and Couchevel. And since this period is so special, and has made us understand even more the importance of time and how we use it, then a stop on our cruise is dedicated to the discovery of the most amazing watches of these months. It’s been a very special occasion: for the first time in her 30 years’ history, the prestigious boat has been the site of an event not organized by the owner. During all these years in fact, the yacht has always had the reputation to be somehow “inaccessible”: only those invited by the family have had the chance to visit her. Launched in 1990 by Blohm & Voss, Lady Moura was, at the time, the most expensive and innovative yacht in the world. The 104.85-metre yacht comprises of a hefty beam of 19 metres with a total gross tonnage of 6,359 GT, 20 cabins for 17 guests and 72 crews. 9 © Bruno De Marquis De Bruno © But today a new story is going to be written in her diary: she’s now for sale. That’s why it was time to mark this change with a proper celebration. About one hundred selected guests have participated to the opening night onboard Lady Moura, of course respecting social distancing and current coronavirus regulation. 10 Luca Marotta - CEO of Force One said: “dream big” and to prove that, by respecting all the sanitary “A cocktail is not just an occasion to drink champagne and to measures, it is possible to organize a cocktail and to create show our latest outfit. That same evening, Yvan Griboval, the initiator and director of the CO2-free oceanographic campaign by sail under the scientific direction of the Institut Français de Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la Mer (Ifremer), took stock of this sailing expedition from Monaco to Porto Cervo (Sardinia), Barcelona (Spain) and La Seyne-sur-Mer (France), during a dinner conference at the Yacht Club de Monaco. At this occasion, the naviator - explorer specified his future objectives as president of the OceanoScientific associations and the OceanoScientific Expeditions director. "When I returned from the OceanoScientific Expedition of the Ocean which became LOVE THE OCEAN® written, 2016-2017, I was convinced of the need to adopt a composed and performed by the young Monegasque common denominator of Humankind as a means of artist Olivia Dorato," Yvan Griboval explained during the raising the awareness of the public at large about the dinner conference. • I Had Found out Earlier That I Did Not Function Well in the Studio, That My Imagination Needed the Reality of the Outdoors.” Helmut Hemut Newton
“I had found out earlier that I did not function well in the studio, that my imagination needed the reality of the outdoors.” Helmut Hemut Newton Forty-five photographs, three boxes, one portfolio: the selection of images entitled Private Property forms an anthology of works by the famous fashion and portrait photographer Hemut Newton. The works brought together under this title were shot between 1972 and Newton 1983 and reflect a sense of style distinctive to the development of fashion photography in the decades to follow. The three boxes contain fifteen photographs each and the Suites are numbered I, II, and III. Newton’s emphasis in this portfolio lies on his areas of interest during his most productive years, a rich assortment of fashion and portrait photography Private Property addressing eroticism, elegance, luxury and—most elementarily—his legendarily fierce and hard-edged women. Helmut Newton, born in 1920 as Helmut Neustädter, the son of a Jewish factory owner, Maude Joanna Hürlimann grew up in the Schöneberg district of Berlin. After an apprenticeship in the studio of the German portrait and fashion photographer Else Simon, also known as Yva, Newton had to leave Germany in 1938 and fled from emerging National Socialism and the extensive powers of the Nazi regime.1 Newton reached Singapore via China, with little money and only two cameras in his luggage. After a two years’ stay, he emigrated to Australia, where he stayed for several years and met his future wife June Browne, professionally known as June Brunell and later—as a photographer—as Alice Springs.

Twenty years ago in 1999, TASCHEN published its first monumental art book: Helmut Newton’s SUMO. It came out on the market in the exceptionally large format of 70 x 50 cm, with a large print run, all personally signed by the photographer, and was delivered with a metal stand designed by Philippe Starck. Later, a copy of SUMO that had been signed by numerous celebrities at a charity auction would become the most expensive book of the 20th century. Ten years ago in 2009, the Helmut Newton Foundation staged an unusual yet compelling exhibition dedicated to this legendary publication: all 464 pages of the book hung framed on the wall, side by side, in three rows one above the other. Exhibition visitors were literally able to see everything at once. This made it possible for them to draw immediate comparisons between more than 400 iconic images by Helmut Newton, from the genres of fashion, portraiture, and nudes in black-and-white and colour.

  • Helmut Newton Exhibit Announcement Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Annenberg Space for Photography Presents Helmut Newton: White Women・Sleepless Nights・Big Nudes June 29 – September 8, 2013 Exhibit Includes Two Documentary Films with Interviews of the Photographer LOS ANGELES, CA (Updated June 14, 2013)—The Annenberg Space for Photography today announced its next installation, Helmut Newton: White Women・Sleepless Nights・Big Nudes, featuring the work of the revolutionary fashion photographer. Opening on Saturday, June 29, 2013, this is the first exhibition of Helmut Newton’s work outside of gallery shows in Los Angeles, his long-time winter residence. Images from Newton’s first three books – White Women, Sleepless Nights and Big Nudes – will be on view through September 8, 2013. The exhibition was originally organized by Manfred Heiting for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. “Helmut Newton is one of the most powerful and influential photographers of the past century – the place where art and fashion and subversion and aspiration all collide. If Newton’s work was controversial, I believe it’s because he expressed the contradictions within all of us, and particularly within the women he photographed so beautifully: empowerment mixed with vulnerability, sensuality tempered by depravity. Newton deepened our understanding of changing gender roles, of the ways in which beauty creates its own kind of power and corruption. On top of that, his compositions were brilliantly precise, cinematic in their scope and in their storytelling,” says Wallis Annenberg, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of the Annenberg Foundation. The 100-plus photographs were made specifically for the exhibition and are large-scale— some reaching six feet in size.

  • Foreign Influences in Australian Photography 1930-80
FOREIGN INFLUENCES IN AUSTRALIAN PHOTOGRAPHY 1930-80 A lecture delivered at APSCON, Canberra Robert Deane, Honorary Researcher Department of Photography National Gallery of Australia 10TH OCTOBER 2000 Given the time at our disposal it is possible only to skim the surface of this challenging topic, looking at a selected range of areas and trying to assess their impact on Australian photography at its widest ambit. Film, photographic publications, exhibitions, photographers both immigrant and emigrant, and world politics all have their part to play in this examination. It is perhaps useful to set out some caveats before commencing on this topic. As an undergraduate student of Cypriot archaeology many years ago, I learned, through the none- too quiet insistence of Professor James Stewart, that the inhabitants of Cyprus did not go to bed one night in Early Bronze I and awake the next morning to find it was Early Bronze II. Indeed he insisted that, apart from the odd cataclysmic earthquake, artistic styles have never changed abruptly in either place or time anywhere. I was, and remain, a dutiful student and thus do not subscribe to any notion that there was any orderly progression in photography from Pre-Raphaelites through Pictorialists etc to whatever post-modern “ism” is the “in” thing with critics today. Photographers, it seems to me, are not only constantly seeking to break new ground in the way they perceive and present the world but they are constantly revisiting the styles, techniques and processes of the past to assist them in that challenge. If one sought a simple example for this, those of you who visit the National Gallery will be able to compare Dupain’s superb Madonna-like portrait from New Guinea made during the war with the great iconic Sunbather made some years earlier.

  • The Terry Richardson Show
Draft accepted for publication by Cultural Politics (Duke University Press), Volume 13, Number 1, March 2017. Accepted for publication on 25 August 2016. Modelling Affective Labour: On Terry Richardson’s Photography Benjamin Halligan Abstract: Photographer Terry Richardson works in a digital aesthetic vernacular that looks more to underground hardcore pornography of yesteryear than traditions associated with the institutionalisation of erotica, as associated with Playboy. And yet his images, in Kibosh and Terryworld, anticipate the contemporary public recalibration of ideas of intimacy as associated with Social Media, tally with contested ideas of the sexualisation of female empowerment as associated with contested elements of Third Wave Feminism, and can be read as a contemporary phase of Antonio Negri’s theory of art and immaterial labour in their evidencing of the affective labour on the part of the photographer himself. This critical commentary, the first such academic writing on Richardson, explores his work in these contexts, and considers Richardson’s return to the figure (over abstraction) as evidencing and exploring of the nature of work, and the nascent eroticisation of working relations, under Western neoliberal regimes. Keywords: Terry Richardson, digital photography, pornography, neoliberalism, Antonio Negri 1 The Terry Look An antique “porn chic” unifies, seemingly, the majority of photographer Terry Richardson’s output – work which covers straight portraiture (for magazines, as collected in books, and via his website, as linked across numerous social media platforms), reportage, in-studio videos (often of shoots with models), music promos, architectural photography (the Hollywood sex industry locales of the 2012 collection Terrywood), and even, revealingly and unapologetically, elements of Richardson merchandise.
