    South Skye Deer Management Group Deer Control Plan This Deer Control Plan outlines the South Skye Deer Management Group’s approach to Deer Control within its defined area of operations. Deer numbers are lower than the national average, therefore the SSDMG acts as a Deer Control Group. This ensures deer can be managed at a level which will not impact adversely with other stakeholder’s interests yet determines they are properly managed. EDITORIAL 'We regard it as one of the essential requisites of our little volume that all its science be considerably diluted with gossip'. This admirable statement in Thomas McCrie's book The Bass Rock .•. , published in 1847 certainly has some application in this particular issue of our little volume. But we make no apology, for science diluted by idle conversation frequently proves more amusing and instructive than an indigestible concentration of facts. In order to standardise its distribution we have resolved to circulate the maga­ zine to all Edinburgh Geological Society members residing in Lothian, Fife, Central and Borders Regions. To save on postage the magazine will continue to be distribu­ ted at the first lecture meeting following its publication. Thereafter remaining copies will be mailed to individuals. Distribution to other members who request a regular copy will continue as before. The success of our endeavours to maintain a readable magazine depends greatly upon both amateur and professional geologists to provide the raw material. One of our difficulties in interpreting what the reader wants is that we receive virtually no feedback. We would of course, always be pleased to have your com­ ments as well as articles for publication. Refreshed in mind and body from a summer full of splendid excursions, members of the Society may look forward to an equally stimulating (mentally at least) programme of lectures for 1981-82.     THE HIGHLAND COUNCIL Agenda Item EDUCATION, CULTURE AND SPORT SERVICE COMMITTEE Report No Statutory Consultation – Kyleakin Primary School catchment area Report by Director of Education, Culture and Sport Service Summary Members are asked to approve that a statutory consultation be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 in relation to the following proposal: That the Secondary School catchment areas of Plockton High School and Portree High School be amended whereby Kyleakin Primary School would in future be included within the catchment area of Plockton High School. 1. Background 1.1 The catchment area for Kyleakin Primary School encompasses the communities of Kyleakin and Kylerhea on the Isle of Skye, extending as far north as the road junction at Drochaid Lusa, where it meets the boundary of the catchment for Broadford Primary. 1.2 The arrangements under which primary schools are designated as associated primaries for particular secondary schools are largely historic and sometimes reflect educational, administrative and transport arrangements that have been superseded. In the case of Kyleakin, the administrative arrangements reflect transport arrangements that pre-date the construction of the Skye Bridge. 1.3 As a result, the Parent Council of Kyleakin PS has submitted a formal written request to change the designation of Kyleakin PS to being a feeder for Plockton High School. The background is set out in detail in Appendix 1. 1.4 It is proposed to respond to the request from the Parent Council by formally consulting on the proposed change. 1.5 The Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 prescribes that changes to catchment areas require formal consultation as laid out within the Act.

    The Highland Council West Highlands & Islands Core Path Plan Review 2015/16– Skye and Lochalsh Consultative Report Introduction The development of the existing core path plan was part of The Highland Councils duties given in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 (LR(S)A 2003). The existing plan was adopted by the full council in September 2011 after the plan had been through the statutory consultation process and also a Public Local Inquiry (PLI). This core path review is for the areas of Skye and Lochalsh in the Highland Council Core Paths Plan. The review will take place alongside the consultation process for the new West Highland and Island Development Plan. A single plan, West Highlands and Islands Core Paths Plan will be produced by combining with Wester Ross and Lochaber, then, where appropriate the Core Paths will be shown on the Local Development Plan. This Consultative Report has been produced as part of a review process, it is not a DRAFT Core Paths Plan as set out in Section 17 of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. Correspondingly the promotion of this Consultative Report is not the public notice of a Core Paths Plan as set out in Section 18 of the same act. Public comments are welcome but the council is not seeking formal objections to the proposals at this stage. Any objections will be treated the same as other comments and should any proposal be put forward in a Draft Core Paths Plans the council will give notice, as set out in section 18, at a future date.
