Dear Parents & Carers

COVID-19 Update – What it means for Leconfield Primary School, Our Families & Staff

The Government announced yesterday that the action plan for Covid-19 has now moved into the delay stage.

I would like to give you information about what the school already has in place and future options that are available to us.

What is school doing?  children and staff are washing hands regularly with soap & water  staff have reminded children about the importance of hygiene and we have shown children how to wash their hands effectively  we have hand sanitiser dispensers at the school entrance, in our hall and annexe building and children & staff have access to this as necessary  we have plentiful stocks of toilet paper, hand wash and hand sanitiser  we have stepped up cleaning routines with particular attention to door handles  visitors are advised of the guidance we have for educational settings  visitors sanitise their hands on entry to the school

What will happen if schools are closed?  if schools are told to close we will provide home learning activities to make sure that learning can still take place  in the event of school closure, we will be using online resources which can be accessed on computers, laptops and tablets. We have tested these and they work on a range of devices so there should be no issues  we are a Google School and our children are able to use Google classroom for work. Using this resource, teachers can set work and children can submit work directly to teachers. There will be some different activities and arrangements for our youngest children in Acorn Class  as well as Google we will direct children to specific websites to support learning e.g. Times Tables Rockstars  we have several subscriptions which we are able to give access for home use e.g. Purple Mash  we have a small number of chrome books we can loan to families who do not have suitable devices. These would be the responsibility of the families who borrow them  each child will be given necessary passwords, login details to access google classroom materials  parents will receive information about how children can access resources  teachers will set relevant work which meets the needs of children

What information & support does school receive?  we receive daily updates from the Department for Education (DfE). These are specific to schools and educational settings. We follow this advice.  we receive support from Council (ERYC) and have access to a dedicated phone line and email which has been set up for schools  we monitor and follow advice from the Government on the Gov.uk website  we use the COVID-19: advice for educational settings document – a copy of this is attached with this email

What can Parents & Carers do?  talk to us if you have any worries or concerns – we follow government advice  make sure school has your most up to date email and mobile phone number so we can keep you informed  make sure you have signed up to ParentPay so you receive letters and communication from the school – contact the school office immediately to do this if you have not done this  remind children about good hygiene habits  keep calm and try not to worry. We appreciate this is an unsettling time but it is important that children are not alarmed  let us know if you need to self-isolate and follow government advice for the safety of everyone  get accurate and up to date information from Gov.uk and Public Health https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/public-health-england

What happens next?  the situation is evolving daily and I will update you if and when changes come into place that affect the school, our families or staff  if you do not hear anything it means that there is no change to the situation and that you should continue to follow the Government advice
