Monday 14 September 2009 Site Selection and Installations

Motivation to select Kullorsuaq / Ilulissat:

- add infrastructure to most critical (but accessible areas) - aid GLISN if funded - aid GEUS immediately (met in Copenhgen, Autumn 2008) - aid ETH research if possible (SwissCamp near Ilulissat)

How did we find the sites?

- GEUS contacts @ Kullorsuaq (no English) - Contacts with Glaciologists @Ilulissat -> Civil Authorities - have to rely on 1. photos / email conversations for site selection (plus, luckily, some prev. GEUS knowledge) 2. TeleGreenland for communications options

- anyone who wants can access SED Greenland SeedLink server greenland.ethz.ch (LH (1sps), BH (20sps), HH (100sps) + SOH)

- excellent latency (~5-10s ave @ODC)

- excellent uptime with ADSL
