2017-2018 Registration Guidelines: Effective immediately, Huaxia Chinese School at Bridgewater is accepting registration for the 2017 to 2018 school year. All registrations are processed online. Please visit our web site, www.huaxiabw.org, for registration and more information on our school. This document provides basic information about the school, and on the registration process. Please be sure to read the entire document before starting the registration process. About the School Huaxia Chinese School at Bridgewater, A New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation, admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administration programs. Classes Among our class offerings are basic Chinese language skill courses and culturally oriented courses. In Chinese language courses, we use Pin-Yin (alphabetic spelling) system, coupled with simplified Chinese characters, and Mandarin Chinese dialect to form the basis for instruction. The grade levels range from pre-school to high school level. The Chinese as Second Language (CSL) classes at the school are bi-lingual programs specially designed for non-Chinese students. Our curriculum is aligned with the specific goals and objectives delineated in the 2004 version of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for World Languages. Our cultural class offerings are designed to be complimentary to the academic classes. They foster an environment for students to learn and appreciate Chinese culture and to practice Chinese language. A wide variety of subjects are offered, including: Painting and drawing, Martial arts, Folk dancing, Crafts, Chess, Basketball, Tai Chi, and Aerobics, etc. Basic Facts • School is in Session: 9:30AM to 12:50PM on Sundays • School Location: Bridgewater-Raritan High School (600 Garretson Road, Bridgewater ) • Online Registration Website: www.huaxiabw.org • A signed copy of the Registration Notice and payment check should be sent to: HXCS-BW, P.O. Account Access If you have previously registered with our school and your e-mail is on file with us, you should have received an e-mail message with your account user name and password. If you didn’t, you can request your password at the web site. Your account name is your primary e-mail address, and you will be able to change your password after you log in. If you have changed your e-mail or you didn’t give it to the school, you can make a request by e-mail to [email protected]. If you are new to our school, please create a new account at www.huaxiabw.com. Once you log in, please enter your family’s information. The school’s e-mail will be the primary means of communication with parents. Please be sure to provide us your updated e-mail address. Please e-mail us ([email protected]) if you have any questions or requests and we will try to respond as soon as we can. We also welcome your feedbacks and suggestions. Registration and Selection of Classes Please note that all registrations are subject to availability. Classes may be canceled for insufficient enrollment, or if essential facility is not available. In addition, the school shall have limited availability for non-Bridgewater and non-Raritan students. The admission for non-residents may be stopped early without further notice. However, all admitted students shall have equal opportunity in receiving class assignments. Should any class you registered is canceled, or for any other reason you cannot be admitted, a full refund for your payment will be made. If you have any other questions about the school, please e-mail us. We will provide timely response to all e-mail inquiries. Please include your phone number so that one of the staff members may contact you if necessary. When more than one class is available for the same grade level, students may select any of the classes at initial registration. This will allow those students who would like to be classmates with each other to register in the same class. However, the school reserves the right to make final assignments. This may become necessary if there is significant imbalance in class sizes, or if the number of classes have to be increased or decreased. While the school makes a great effort in assigning teachers to appropriate classes, the assignment of class numbers at the same grade level will be done randomly. Once the registration is finalized, in general, transfer request between two Chinese classes of the same level will not be considered. If there are unusual circumstances that require special attention, the request may be granted only if the normal teaching programs will not be negatively affected. Please note, while the enrollment in any class may be withdrawn at the beginning of the semester, the reassignment into another class will be contingent upon the availability of that class. When a student withdraws from a class, the opening may be reassigned, and there will not be any guarantee if he/she wants to return to the original class. You may enter any special request and other comments by clicking on “Feedback” button. Please let us know if none of your family members speaks Mandarin Chinese. After the registration is submitted, please print out the confirmation form from the web site, sign and mail it with your payment check, made payable to HXBW, to: P.O. Box 6841, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. If you have difficulty entering Chinese names in the online registration process, please also write down the Chinese names of the students and parents on the confirmation page you send. When your signed form and full payment is received and processed, your account status will become “registered”. Until this happens, you can still make change to your class selection. However, if your change increases the payment due, you’ll need to send out another payment check with the difference, so that the processing can be completed. Tuition and Fees In general, our programs are planned for the whole year. For the convenience of some families, we also provide an option for registering by semester. When you select classes, you will see the rates for each class both by school year and by semester. In addition to tuition, Chinese classes are also charged a book fee. (On web site, the book fee is included in the tuition amount displayed.) Each student is charged a registration fee, no matter how many classes are registered. In the third week, a student may withdraw from a class with 50% refund of the tuition for that semester. No tuition refund will be given for the current semester after the third week.
