 Chief, Business Excellence at Mukand Ltd., Mumbai (1991 – 2012). Mukand group is the largest Producer and Exporter of Alloy & Stainless Steels long products in the country and a major manufacturer of Materials Handling Equipment and heavy machinery : Initially as head of R&D and subsequently as head of Quality Management.

Awards/Recognitions

 Spearheaded the three major units of Mukand Group of industries (located near Mumbai as well as near Bangalore), in winning the coveted Japanese Award of TPM Excellence in the years 2003, 2005 and 2008 respectively.

 Guided Mukand in successfully challenging the Deming Diagnosis by JUSE, Japan in 2009.

 Guided the company in winning the National Quality Award from Ministry of Steel in the years 1992, 1997 & 1999.

 Since 1991, has been the Chief of Mukand’s R&D Division, which won the "DSIR" Award from Govt.of India, as the "Outstanding in-house R&D" of 1993.

 Mukand's R&D was subsequently certified as an ACCREDITED LAB by Govt. of India (NABL), in 1995.

 Won Best Paper Award of Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), New Delhi 1987.

 Honoured with the "Distinguished Metallurgist" award of Institution of Engineers, Mumbai 1994.

 Received Essar Gold Medal as the “Best Metallurgist” by IIM (from Ministry of Steel), in Jamshedpur, 1997.

 Honoured with a “Special Contribution Prize”, for his dedication to the implementation of TPM in India, by JIPM (Japan) – CII (India)’s TPM Club of India, in Chennai, March, 2008.

Contributions Specific to TPM

 Spearheaded the TPM implementation in the Mukand group of companies that resulted in winning the TPM Excellence Award from Japan for the Machine Building company in 2003, Steel company in 2005 and Hospet Steels Limited in 2008. For the first two companies, collaborated with JIPM (Mr.Kawashima).

However, for the Hospet Steels Ltd specifically, no help was taken from Japanese instructors or consultants during the TPM implementation programme.

 TPM health check programme conducted for Indian Oil in Guwahati during 2008 on behalf of TPM Club India.

 Support for TPM kickoff and guidance provided to Raychem Industries (RPG) in Vasai near Mumbai during August, 2009 on behalf of TPM Club India.

 TPM case study presentations conducted for the delegates in a TPM conference in Goa on behalf of CII during May, 2006.

 Invited as Chairman of the Jury and the keynote speaker on behalf of TPM Club India for the annual Kaizen contest at the National Academy for Defence Production, Nagpur, where 40 ordnance factories participated from all over the country during December, 2011.

 Conducted TPM training sessions at CII, Mumbai as well as CII, Kolkata.

 Conducted TPM training sessions on behalf of NCQM (National Centre for Quality Management), Mumbai, Alliance India, Mumbai and conducted classes in some of the reputed management institutes in Mumbai, as guest faculty.

 Conducted TPM sessions on behalf of NCQM in some local companies like Indian Semlting and Refining, Uniabex Ltd., others.

 On the invitation of RPG Group, assisted KEC Intnernational, Nagpur for their TPM implementation.

Similar support was provided to some other small scale industry units in Nasik for some time like that in Bombay Forgings Ltd., Aurangabad (a Mukand unit).

 Active participant in all the TPM Coordinators’ meetings & plant visits during the initial days of TPM in India.
