10 SEPTEMBER 2015 ISSUE 56 Compositions of Century Park Kigali

With a site area of 9.6 Hectare the Century Park development consists of 16 low-rise villas, 15 mid-rise apartments, a club house with 2 restaurants and fitness facilities, a boutique hotel and a 5-star hotel cluster to be managed by Sheraton.The concept of the project was born from the challenges posed by the context of its location: a development within a wetland and a residential neighborhood. This seeks to demystify two phenomena; whether urban development can be integrated with nature; and how the development can add value to the neighborhood and the nature, other than pose setbacks to conservation.

Artistic Impressions of Century Park

„ „Clubhouse The clubhouse is conceptualized as the magnet that will pull all Kigali into the century park. Already, a vibrant Chillax Lounge is making good print in attracting all classes of Kigalians, with evening parties becoming a usual occurrence at the facility.

„ „Boutique Hotel The U-shaped building structure offers the perfect place for accommodation and will include:

• A 3-level hotel wing with a 250sm pool facing the gym; • A 4-level hotel wing with Spa; • A 2-level restaurant which also allows space for bar/cafe for evening function;

Through its design concept, the century park project seeks to address these issues by delivering a sustainable lifestyle that integrates modern living with nature.By lifestyle, it means that once completed, its residents will more than stay at the place; they will be expected to develop a sustainability attitude towards dwelling in a community, thereby cultivating a sense of belonging.

Elements of the Century Park Project „ „Residential The development targets all types of upper middle class: families, couples, business travellers and singletons. There are 2-bed, 3-Bed and 4-bed apartments to ensure the whole development has a balance ratio of different groups for fostering a better communal life. 15 mid-rise apartments are targeted to be constructed in the area.

sectors of a community to yield sustainable results. With such a comprehensive approach, the company has won confidence from governments and private sector players across the globe. Thus contrary to the popular argument that modern housing facilities are less affordable and accessible by the poor when left in the hands of the private sector, Century Park Hotel & Residences Ltd by employing delivery strategies that guarantee efficiency and quality of service has challenged this paradigm proving that the private sector is capable of offering affordable, reliable real estate solutions for the region.

Among others, the global property developer partners with leading international and regional investors to access finance through equity contributions and long term debt finance, which have lower interest rates and long term repayment periods, and by so doing ensuring that the resulting property is within reach of many in Africa.

12 SEPTEMBER 2015 ISSUE 56 In Rwanda’s case, Century Park has already sealed a deal with KCB as a mortgage financing agent, which will see several affordable housing units supplied on the market soon. “Century Park came on board as a perfect partner in our efforts to deliver on the promise we made to the people of Rwanda; to walk with them every step of the way providing tailored financial solutions to their needs,” Maurice K. Toroitich, KCB Rwanda’s Managing Director disclosed.

Rwanda is currently facing challenges of inadequate supply of quality affordable housing and the Century Park-KCB partnership represents a rare gem of Private-Private Partnership which is a promising mix in solving the enigma. In other strategies aimed at ensuring that quality affordable properties are supplied, all Century Park properties respect a strong insurance policy which requires each to be covered by the best Mr. Cheung Yiu Tung Billy Chairman of Century Park Charles Haba having moments with guests insurer available. In Rwanda the choice of insurer is Britam Insurance which boasts a wide range of engineering and construction insurances.

More projects, more impact

Besides the project in Nyarutarama, Century Park as a developer is involved in several other properties. The Kigali Marriott Hotel located in down town Kigali that is slated to open in the near future is also a brain child of Century Park Hotel &Residences Ltd. All these investments are undoubtedly set to revolutionise business in Rwanda. The fact that the tourism sector is the leading foreign exchange earner, Century Park and their esteemed partners are determined to increase the supply of keys to affordable residential rooms in the future. One of the local investors who has partnered in the Century Park Project in Nyarutarama, who is also a real estate and hospitality Guru Hatari Sekoko in a chat at the groundbreaking ceremony confirms of the high targets they have set.

“We want to put at least 10,000 keys on the Rwandan market; keys to houses that make a difference today and in the future especially as a result of their splendid and naturally sustainable designs.” That is an addition to the obvious impacts on the economy such as creation of employment, the penetration of global leading brands such as Century Park and its associate brands tells the tale of the boom that Rwanda’s Maurice K. Toroitich, KCB Rwanda’s Managing Director and Mr. Cheung Yiu Tung Billy private sector is headed for. Gains and projects from the Rwanda and the Chairman of Century Park and Solomon Adede C.E.O Century Park during the launch region according to the company’s management will provide a springboard to propel the developer to other markets in sub-Saharan Africa.
