V&A Acquires the Glastonbury Festival Archive
V&A acquires the Glastonbury Festival Archive The V&A is delighted to announce a collaboration with Glastonbury Festival to create an archive reflecting more than 40 years of diverse and creative performance. Glastonbury Festival is the longest-running popular music and performing arts festival in the world. Set up in 1970 by Michael Eavis on Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset – the Eavis’s family farm for four generations - the Festival is now attended by around 175,000 people annually. It has a long and unique history of hosting music, dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and other arts and collaborating with artists, set designers and craftspeople. Many distinguished names have performed at the summer festival over the last four decades including Beyoncé, Bjork, Blondie, Marc Bolan, Coldplay, The Cure, Jay-Z, Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, New Order, Oasis, Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, Toots and the Maytals, Velvet Underground and Amy Winehouse. This eclectic archive includes a range of material, from programmes and posters from every festival since 1970, designs for the Festival identity, interviews, unseen film and photographs, correspondence, t-shirts, tickets and other memorabilia. Personal accounts and documents trace the origins of the Festival and festival maps reveal how it has grown and developed within the landscape. Press cuttings document the relationship of the Festival with the local community and stories that captured the nation. The working processes of the Festival will be captured in the archive with original backstage passes, photographs and performers’ set-lists. The archive also includes photographs that reveal the evolution of the legendary Pyramid stage since its creation in 1971 to a permanent stage – also briefly used as a cattle shed in 1981. -
Music Reading Read the Passage, the E-Mail and the Festival Guide. the Glastonbury Festival Is an Unforgettable Sight. for Three
Music Reading Read the passage, the e-mail and the festival guide. The Glastonbury Festival is an unforgettable sight. For three days, 280 hectares of peaceful farm country in the beautiful Somerset Valley become a vast, colourful tent city. The Glastonbury Festival is Britain's largest outdoor rock concert, and it attracts crowds of more than 100,000 people. It has six separate stages for musicians to play on. It has eighteen markets where fans can buy things. It has its own daily newspaper and is even broadcast live on television. It also raises large amounts of money for several charities, including Greenpeace and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Glastonbury is just one of many events on the international music festival calendar each year. For dance music fans, there's Creamfields, the Essential Festival and Homelands - all in the UK. Rock fans have Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic in Japan, and the Livid Festival and the Big Day Out in Australia. And the crowds just keep getting bigger. In fact, the size of some of these festivals is causing problems. Since the deaths of nine people at Roskiide in 2000 and the death of a young woman at the 2001 Big Day Out, festival organisers and local police have been working together to make sure festival-goers stay safe. Despite these tragic events, festivals are more popular than ever. And it's not just about the music. It's about making new friends and partying non-stop for days at a time. It's about dancing till you can't stand up anymore and then crashing in someone else's tent. -

Práce je rozdělena do teoretické a praktické části. Teoretická část začíná stručným obeznámením s autorem, knihou a kulturním pozadím dané doby. Jejím cílem je nahlédnout do průběhu překladatelského procesu. Klíčová slova: překlad, překladatel, ekvivalence, analýza, slang, hudba, Alex James, Blur ABSTRACT The main purpose of this bachelor thesis is the translation of four chapters of music autobiography Bit of a Blur by Alex James, the member of the band Blur, accompanied by the analysis of slang terms. An Investigation of the Effects Glastonbury Festival Has on the Day-To-Day Lives of the Communities of Local Villages
An investigation of the effects Glastonbury Festival has on the day-to-day lives of the communities of local villages. Jessica Dyer ST20063194 BA (Hons) Events Management Cardiff Metropolitan University May 2018 i ii Abstract: The study explores how Glastonbury Festival has a social impact on its surrounding communities and investigates how this affects the resident’s day-to-day lives using Small’s model of social impact (Small, 2007, cited in Bladen et al., 2012, p.369). In order to achieve this, the researcher created realistic and achievable aims and objectives, which were used to critically analyse and evaluate information on the social impacts of festival’s and large-scale events and in particular, how Glastonbury Festival affects its local communities. An evaluation of secondary data was conducted, investigating the effects festivals and events have on their local residents within and how these related to the Small’s model. The literature on the subject chosen, was critically reviewed and analysed to highlight any themes and patterns between the existing literature and the project in question. The project provided evidence that the literature is minimal on the social impact of communities alone, as most is in connection to economic impact. The primary data collected within the study was qualitative data, in the form of six semi- structured interviews, with participants who lived within the four chosen areas surrounding Glastonbury (West Pennard, Shepton Mallet, Pilton and Glastonbury town). Letters were sent to residents to recruit potential participants for the project. The six participants selected were of the ages 18-30 years old, 31-50 years old and 51 and over (two participants from each age group). -

Exploring the dark, self-destructive side of creative talent. Medium Lost In Vagueness: The Ultimate Untold Glastonbury Festival Story The film of Roy Gurvitz, who created Lost Vagueness, at Glastonbury and who, as Michael Eavis says, reinvigorated the festival. With the decadence of 1920’s Berlin, but all in a muddy field. A story of the dark, self-destructive side of creativity and the personal trauma behind it. Long Lost In Vagueness: Lost In Vagueness: The Ultimate Untold Glastonbury Festival Story The film of Roy Gurvitz, who invented the Lost Vagueness area at Glastonbury and who, as Michael Eavis says, reinvigorated the festival. It’s a story of the dark, self-destructive side of creative talent and the personal trauma behind it. Anti-hero, Roy, and Glastonbury founder, Michael, became friends in the early 1990’s. Through their story, we retrace Britain’s sub-culture history, to see how a band of troublesome new age travellers came together to create Lost Vagueness. It was a place of opulence and decadence, and reminiscent of a permissive 1920’s Berlin, but all in a muddy field. As an anarchic, punk traveller, Roy scoured Europe searching for a community where he could escape his oppressive upbringing. -
