JUNE 24, 2018: The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist ! FǓǐǎ OǖǓ PǂǔǕǐǓ: FǓ. Hǖǚ ! Mrs. Puleo: 41 Years of Service as a Christian Educator at Saint Jerome School ! ! For the last 41 years, Mrs. Kathy Puleo has been an educator, leader and cornerstone at Saint Jerome School. She has put all her heart and soul into leading many young students “to achieve academic excellence, to keep faith at the center of all that they do, and to promote good citizenship through acts of Christian service within our community and beyond.” (Saint Jerome School’s Mission Statement) ! ! At the First Holy Communion Mass last May in our collaborative, I asked the communicants who they wanted to be when they grew up. Some kids said that they wanted to be a firefighter. Some kids wanted to be a doctor. However, a young student from Saint Jerome School said she wanted to be like Mrs. Puleo when she grew up. Jesus Christ truly lived in Mrs. Puleo. Many young students saw Jesus live in Mrs. Puleo through her faith, hope, and love for our Catholic Church. ! ! Sadly, Mrs. Puleo’s parents have come to an age where they need more of her attention and care. Also, with “burning the midnight oil” in her office to prepare for the school week, her husband Steve has gotten the short end of the stick for many years. Thus, Mrs. Puleo has made the difficult decision that she has to step down. She has decided to retire so that she can spend more time with her husband, her elderly parents, and her family. Selfishly, we do not want her to retire. However, she rightfully deserves this after all of her hard work and her dedication to our community for so many years. Mrs. Puleo will be greatly missed. ! ! The Saint Jerome School community has big shoes to fill to replace Mrs. Puleo. It has not been an easy process for many of the school faculty, parents, or myself to search for a new candidate. However, with our Lord’s help, the support of the Archdiocese of Boston Catholic School Office, and our collaborative prayers, we hope to find the best candidate to lead Saint Jerome School, to continue to strive and be evermore. ! ! My favorite day of the year occurred this week when we enjoyed the longest day…filled with sunlight and perfect weather…God’s gift to all of us. ! ! The bittersweet part of June is saying so long to our graduates. We are grateful for your kind reception of them last weekend as they offered their reflections on life at Saint Jerome School. They were honored to be part of the collaborative community during their time here and we know you join us in congratulating them on their achievements. ! ! The graduates will be attending: Archbishop Williams, Catholic Memorial, Fontbonne Academy, Notre Dame Academy, Weymouth High, CATS Academy and Xaverian Brothers High School. We are so proud of the Class of 2018 and wish them all the best at their new schools. ! ! Over the next several weeks we will share a brief reflection on each of the students so keep watching right here to see the wonderful young men and women you have cheered on over the last ten years! ! ! Mary Clogston is the second Clogston daughter to graduate from Saint Jerome and will be joining her sister at Notre Dame Academy in September. Mary added so much to our school climate and experience in her ten years here. She participated in Lego robotics, the Drama Club, played the drums in the school band, wowed us on the basketball court, and achieved impressively in her academics. Outside of school, Mary plays soccer and enjoys time with her family and friends. She took many ideals with her, among them that Saint Jerome School really is a community and that we should help others without asking for anything in return. ! ! Mary was inspired by Mr. Hauser , her middle school Math and Social Studies teacher, who she says, “h as always encouraged learning in a creative way…and also gave me room to make mistakes.” His teaching, she believes, will influence her in high school and beyond. ! ! Having been offered $60,000 in scholarships , Mary is looking forward to the independence and personal accountability that she anticipates at Notre Dame. ! ! We are grateful to Mary for the MANY ways she has enriched our school community and are confident she will achieve the goals she sets in both the near and distant future! Congratulations, Mary! We are SO proud of you and grateful for the ways you made us all better! Go make a difference! ! ! Just two weeks after introducing the Legacy Fund as a way to honor past and present teachers, staff, family members, priests and anyone who has enriched your educational and faith experience, we extend our thanks for the MANY donations we have received. Among the honorees are Mrs. Patricia Schell, Father Barry, and Miss Kreckie. Several donors kindly recognized the retirements of Mrs. Madden, Bishop Dooher, and Mrs. Puleo with generous gifts. Others simply donated because they value the faith based education we offer at Saint Jerome School. ! ! The Legacy Fund will be an on going opportunity for you to support the school while honoring someone who has been influential in your life, leaving their own legacy and imprint. Please consider a contribution as a “thank you” to the past and a commitment to the future! You may donate online by going to the following website: stjeromeschoolweymouth.org/make adonation ! ! The school office is open all summer and we hope you will stop by to say hello or inquire about enrollment for September! God bless! ! 4! Collaborative News and Events... ! !
