Inthestudyitwasalso identifiedthathavingaruralhigh-speedaccessinourregioncanbeaccomplish. Asaregionwearetakingthenextstepsintryingtoachievethegoalofhigh- speedaccessforall.We havestarteddevelopingabusinessplanandmodelthat wouldhavetheabilitytohaveasustainablereliableserviceforallruralremote communities. possibilityofusingthemodelweareworkingontobeexpandedto anyruralremotetransitioningcommunities. Biggesthurtleinbeingabletoaccomplishahighlevelofconnectivityinrural remoteareasuchastheBREOCregion,is thecostofinfrastructure.We will continuetotryaengagealllevelsofgovernmentandlookforstrategicpartners, tohelptheBREOCregiongrowanddiversifyoureconomyandlessenour dependenceonresousesbasedeconomy SkiHill: TheValleySkiHillisanotherIntermuncipalpartnershipwithintheBREOCregion andhasastrongopportunitytobringtourismtotheforefrontasaneconomic driver.A feasibilitystudyhasrecentlybeendoneontheskihillandit’sbeen foundthatmaintainingthehillwouldbepossibleandbeneficial. Bringingin tourismdollarstoourbusinesscommunityallowsustodiversifytheeconomyin anoilandagdependentregion. Theskihillalsohaspositiveeffectsoncitizen retentionandattraction. Incollaboration, PaintearthandFlagstaff,identified thestrongpositiveimpactof thevalleyskihillhasonourregionandworkedtogetheronthefeasibilitystudy. Recentlyabusinessplanwasdevelopedhoweverinordertobesuccessfultheski hillisnowinneedofaninfrastructureupgradeonthefacilityandhill.Both countiescontinuetoengagetheskillhillclub,looking forpossiblepartnersin investinginourregion MarketAccess TheBREOCregionwiththecactuscorridorsharestheveteranmemorialhighway hwy36)that givesourregionnorth/southmarketaccess. Thisisaveryviableand economicalalternativetothehighway2corridor.A uniquecharacteristicofthe veteran’smemorialhighwayisitintersectionwiththebattleriverrailline.The BRRlineisownedanoperatedbyanewgenerationcoop. thisshortlinecanmove productandmaterialonits60-milelinetothetotheCNlinethatgivesmarket accesstoeastandwest.The BREOCboardwillcontinuetolookatwaysto leveragetheuniquemarketaccesstoallindustryandwilldevelopan infrastructureplaninthefuturetohelptheentireeastcentralregiongrowour economy. StrongadvantagewithworkingwithBBRispriorityofservicetoany industrylocatedintheregion,

TheBIOSALIXprogramatthePaintearthMine, whichisdemonstrating theuseofmunicipal residualstogrowwillowsforbiomassfeedstock, iswhattheprojectteamhopeswillbethe tippingpointforthecreationofagreeneconomyhubforthecommunity ofForestburgtohelp transitionthecommunity awayfromcoal. The optionsforthebiomassareendless, butwill requirethebuildingofinfrastructure tousethebiomassinthemostadvantageous way. This infrastructure includesarangeofoptionsfromasyntheticfuelplanttogreenalgaeenergyhuts toacompostfacility. PartoftheBIOSALIXprojectincludesanOptionsAssessmentthatwillbe completedbyAlbertaInnovates, whichwillbetterhoneinonthebestinfrastructure tobuild.
