DEBORAH A. ANDERSON Prospect Mill Elementary School Ms. Deborah Anderson attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. She went on to receive her master’s in education from Towson University. Later in her career, she received her plus 30 with a focus in science and technology. History of Service to Harford County Public Schools: Third Grade Teacher, Prospect Mill Elementary School 1976-2013 Fourth Grade Teacher, Prospect Mill Elementary School 1973-1976 Personal Interests/Hobbies: Gardening; Reading; Going to the movies with her daughter; Relaxing on the beach in Fenwick Island, Delaware; Traveling with her family; Spending time with friends, especially over a cup of tea at “Tea by Two” Ms. Anderson has been married to Michael J. Anderson, a retired Harford County physical education teacher, for 38 years. They have lived on Greenspring Road near Darlington for most of their married life and enjoy the peace and quiet of living in the country. They have two children, Ann Anderson and Michael Anderson. Ann is a physician’s assistant working in the emergency room at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Michael works on the production team for WBAL radio and helps produce the Ravens games. MRS. MARCIA S. BOCCIA Bel Air Middle School Mrs. Marcia Boccia is a graduate of Harford County Public Schools, having received her high school diploma in 1969 from Aberdeen High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Salisbury University and a master’s degree in education and reading from Towson University. She received her graduate certifi cate in education administration from Loyola College and has completed additional graduate credits at Loyola College, Goucher College and Towson University. She has maintained her advanced professional certifi cate and has her Administration I and II license in Maryland. CANAVAN Executive Director of Middle School Performance Mrs. Barbara P. Canavan began her teaching career at Sacred Heart School in Brooklyn, New York. Mrs. Canavan taught for three years in a non-graded, open primary for fi rst through third grades. She received her undergraduate degree from Mount St. Mary College, Hooksett, New Hampshire. Her undergraduate degree is in English literature, French and secondary education. Mrs. Canavan holds a Master of Arts in middle school education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a degree in secondary school administration and supervision from Loyola University. Shortly before her husband, Denis, passed away, he gave her a Bernese Mountain dog named Lady. Lady is her BFF. Her son, Travis, is engaged to be married and plans are underway for a fall wedding. MR. STUART I. CHAPMAN Aberdeen High School Science & Mathematics Academy Mr. Stu Chapman completed his undergraduate work at Frostburg State University in 1973 and his graduate work at Towson State University in 1979. He is autodidactic. MRS. JUDY A. DERBYSHIRE Southampton Middle School Mrs. Judy Derbyshire graduated from Georgetown College, Kentucky, with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics, a minor in business and a secondary teaching certifi cate. She then went on to gain her plus 30. Mrs. Derbyshire has a secondary certifi cate for mathematics and computers. Mrs. Derbyshire’s teaching experience has been at Southampton Middle School for all forty years under the leadership of Thomas Wimbrow, Barbara Canavan and Glenn Jensen. (continued) 3 Throughout those years, she has participated in many ways: chairperson for mathematics and computer departments, instructor of countywide in-service computer courses, Math Counts, gifted/talented teacher, enrichment scheduler, co- ordinator for the grocery register tapes fundraiser, coordinated the Maryland Functional Math Testing, helped coordinate the MSA computer science testing, a super user for Edline and Grade Quick, a member of the School Improvement Team, coordinator for School Notes and other committees as needed. Personal Interests/Hobbies: Sailing; Reading; Needle work Mrs. Derbyshire and her husband, Mike, have celebrated 35 years of marriage and continually enjoy their two children, MaryBeth and Tim. MR. PAUL J. FLOTTEMESCH Abingdon Elementary School Mr. Paul Flottemesch is a life-long resident of Harford County and a product of Harford County Public Schools. He attended the following schools: Old Post Road Elementary School, Edgewood Junior/Senior High School and Harford Junior College. To obtain his Bachelor of Science in physical education, he attended Towson State College. He then received a Master of Science in physical education from Morgan State College. He continued his professional development by taking classes at Loyola College and Goucher College to obtain his plus 30.
