The main differences between the new species and the previously recorded species in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, Cymadusa compta and Cymadusa setosa respectively, are also presented. Accepted 23 August 2013 Three species of marine Amphipoda, Peramphithoe africana, Varohios serratus and Ceradocus isimangaliso, are described as new to science and an additional 13 species are recorded from South Africa for the first time. Twelve of these new records originate from collecting expeditions to Sodwana Bay in northern KwaZulu-Natal, while one is an introduced species newly recorded from Simon’s Town Harbour. In addition, we collate all additions and revisions to the regional amphipod fauna that have taken place since the last major monographs of each group and produce a comprehensive, updated faunal list for the region. A total of 483 amphipod species are currently recognized from continental South Africa and its Exclusive Economic Zone . Of these, 35 are restricted to freshwater habitats, seven are terrestrial forms, and the remainder either marine or estuarine. The fauna includes 117 members of the suborder Corophiidea, 260 of the suborder Gammaridea, 105 of the suborder Hyperiidea and a single described representative of the suborder Ingolfiellidea. -

Diversity of New Zealand Deep-sea Amphipoda A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Waikato by MATTHEW ANDREW KNOX 2012 i ABSTRACT Biodiversity and the ecological and evolutionary processes which influence faunal distributions are poorly understood in deep-sea habitats. This thesis assesses diversity of deep-sea amphipod crustaceans at three taxonomic levels (family, species, genetic) on continental margins of New Zealand relative to environmental variables. Sampling was undertaken at 20 stations located on Chatham Rise and Challenger Plateau, two major geomorphic features with contrasting environmental conditions. In Chapter 1, total diversity of the >12,500 amphipods assessed at the family-level revealed high abundance (range: 44 – 2074 individuals 1000 m-2) and taxonomic richness (27 families). Amphipod assemblages at all stations were largely dominated by the same families. -

Cadien, LACSD 22Jul2004 (revised 2Mar2015) Preface The purpose of this review is to bring together information on all of the species reported to occur in the NEP fauna. It is not a straight path to the identification of your unknown animal. It is a resource guide to assist you in making the required identification in full knowledge of what the possibilities are. Never forget that there are other, as yet unreported species from the coverage area; some described, some new to science. The natural world is wonderfully diverse, and we have just scratched its surface. Introduction to the Ampeliscoidea The superfamily Ampeliscoidea consists solely of the family Ampeliscidae. It is well represented in the NEP, with about 50 species distributed among three genera. There has been at least one species introduced into California waters from the North Atlantic (Chapman 1988), Ampelisca abdita, which forms dense aggregations within San Francisco Bay. It is also distributed outside the bay, but penetration of non-embayment waters has not been extensive. The superfamily was established by Bousfield (1979) when he broadened the scope of his phyletic reevaluations beyond the limits of the Gammaridae s. l. addressed previously (Bousfield 1977). In addition to his diagnosis he characterized the Ampeliscoidea as “world-wide, marine coastal and abyssal: building sac-like tubes in soft stable sediments.” He considered the group -

BRUSCA2 ABSTRACT: This paper reports a study conducted on pelagic Amphipoda col lected from the waters near Oahu, Hawaii. Included here are species accounts for all of the amphipods except the hyperiid family Scinidae. The specimens discussed here represent 35 species belonging to 12 families of gammarid and hyperiid am phipods. Data and remarks on the systematics, vertical distribution and migration, and reproductive activities are presented, together with geographic distributions. This study is based primarily on the extensive collections of the ZMUC but also on more recent collections in other institutions. Seven valid species are recognised in this review, including one described as new to science. Two new characters were discovered; the first two pereonites are partially or wholly fused dorsally and the coxa of pereopod 7 is fused with the pereonite. -

Cada especie ha sido situada en una tabla que se corresponde con las ecorregiones marinas de Cuba, donde además se ofrece el número de veces que dicha especie ha sido colectada en cada localidad, así como el tipo de sustrato. INTRODUCCIÓN Marc Lacroix ha descrito recientemente una nueva especie canaria de Pachydema: Pachydema keithi Lacroix, 2000, nominada en honor de su colega Denis Keith, cuyo holotypus está conservado en el Museo de París (Museum national d’Histoire naturelle). El nuevo taxon procede del Pozo de las Nieves, en la isla de Gran Canaria. Sin embargo, en realidad Lacroix ha redescrito, paso por paso, a Pachydema bipartita ameliae López-Colón, 1986, una subespecie de Pachydema bipartita (Brullé, 1838) [cuyo holotypus, que procede de Valleseco, Gran Canaria, está conservado en el Departamento de Biología Animal de la Universidad de La Laguna (Tenerife)] que Galante & Stebnicka (1992) pasaron a sinonimia de esta última (ver pág.
