British American Tobacco’s submission to the WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control This is the submission of the British American Tobacco group of companies commenting on the WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. We are the world’s most international tobacco group with an active presence in 180 countries. Executive summary • The WHO’s proposed ‘Framework Convention on Tobacco Control’ is fundamentally flawed and will not achieve its objectives. • The tobacco industry, along with other industries involved in the manufacture and distribution of legal but risky products, is the subject of considerable public attention. It is important that the debate about tobacco remains open, objective, constructive and free from opportunistic criticism if we are effectively to address the real issues associated with tobacco. • British American Tobacco is responsible tobacco. We seek to operate in partnership with governments, who are significant stakeholders in our business, and other interested parties, based on our open acknowledgement that we make a risky product and therefore support sensible regulation. • British American Tobacco shares the World Health Organisation’s desire to reduce the health impact of tobacco use. This paper outlines British American Tobacco’s proposal for the sensible regulation of tobacco. • Our proposal will relieve the WHO of the cost and bureaucracy involved in its wish to become a single global tobacco regulator, leaving it free to do what it should be doing – policy orientation. He married (2) RACHEL MURPHY about 1810 in Russell, Virginia, USA. She was born about 1784 in Tennessee, USA. She died in Lawrence, Kentucky, United States. Notes for William Prince: We know that William Prince was named William D. Prince as the 1850 census of Habersham county shows this, and also the 1850 delinquent tax list of Habersham shows the same name. The 1850 Murray county GA census shows William enumerated without his middle initial, but there is no doubt it is the same family (with a few unsurprising discrepancys) that appears in 1850 Habersham. As Joseph Prince owned land in Murray county GA in 1850, it is certainly likely that William was residing on that land once he left Habersham. (Phil Prince <[email protected]>) Notes for Laurie Fyffe: There is no evidence that this is correct. It is most likely that Laurie Fyffe married some other William Prince. Notes for Rachel Murphy: Rachel filed for divorce on Dec 21, 1835 stating that she and William had moved back to Lawrence Co. abt 1828 and in 1829 he had deserted her and taken up with Arty Mullins. (According to my Great Aunt Emma Prince Thompson, Carter Prince's Grandmother was a Gregor. -

IAC 7/11/01 Environmental Protection[567] Ch 65, p.33 APPENDIX A MANURE CONTROL ALTERNATIVES FOR OPEN FEEDLOTS IAC 7/11/01 Introduction: Water pollution control requirements for animal feeding operations are given in Chapter 65 of the rules of the Iowa department of natural resources. Under these rules, open feedlots meeting the operation permit application requirements of rule 567—65.4(455B) must also comply with the minimum manure control requirements of subrule 65.2(2). Subrule 65.2(2) requires that all feedlot runoff and other manure flows resulting from precipitation events less than or equal to the 25-year, 24-hour rainfall event be collected and land applied. This appendix describes five feedlot runoff control systems that meet the requirements of subrule 65.2(2). The systems differ in the volume of manure storage provided and in the frequency of manure application. In general, the time interval between required applications increases with increased stor- age volume. A feedlot operator who constructs and operates a manure control facility in accordance with the re- quirements of any of these five systems will not have additional manure control requirements imposed, unless manure discharges from the facility cause state water quality standards violations. In describing the five systems, the major features of each are first reviewed, followed by detailed information on the construction and operation requirements of the system. The system descriptions are presented in this appendix as follows: System Pages System 1: One Manure Application Period Per Year. 33-35 System 2: July and November Manure Application. 35-37 System 3: April, July, and November Manure Application. -

The Hasid-Writing upon the Wall, a caricature in colour, published by James Gillray in 1803, depicts Napoleon and his wife, Josephine, sitting at a table with members of their court, enjoying the spoils of England after the " invasion " by the French. A hand has written "liens, tnene, tekel, upharsin " on the wall, and the King's crown is outweighing Despotism to a cry of" Vive is Boi " Among the viands and wines shown on the table are the Bank of England, St. James's, The Tower of London, together with the Roast Beef of old England, Maraschino, and some red liquor in a bottle labelled "Maidstone ". Thella.raschino, a liqueur made from the small black mamma cherries, was manufactured in England at this time, and might have been the forerunner of Maidstone's famous Cherry Brandy, as according to Walter Rowles' "Kentish Chronologer " of 1807, cherries were first planted at Teynkani in Kent by Richard Haynes in 1520. Also, Evelyn records that " It was by the plain industry of one, Harris (a fruiterer to Henry 'VIII) that the fields and environs of about 30 towns in Kent only, were planted with fruit to the universalbenefit and general improvement of that County to this day." • The bottle labelled "Maidstone ", however, was obviously intended to represent the well-known Maidstone Geneva, which was a very pope OT gin made in Maidstone at this time. -

In the midst of the Great Depression in the 1930s, the government took considerable actions in an attempt to control the questionable and troubling practices of business to help prevent a similar crisis from ever burdening the nation again. What it created was the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), which today continues to bear primary responsibility for the administration of securities laws and enforcement actions against violators. Moreover, the SEC has increasingly gained enforcement capacities over its lifespan. Today, it can not only impose professional bars on violators, but also force them to forfeit any ill-gotten gains and even pay monetary fines through civil and administrative proceedings. While not conventionally thought of as criminal, these white-collar offenses can have a tremendous and harmful impact on their victims and the larger market. -
