Press release Karlstad, Sweden, 5 August 2021 Embracer Group acquires Easy Trigger Embracer Group AB (“Embracer”) through its wholly owned subsidiary Coffee Stain Studios AB ("Coffee Stain"), have entered into an agreement to acquire 100 percent of the shares in Easy Trigger AB ("Easy Trigger"), the studio behind the critically acclaimed title Huntdown. “We have worked with Easy Trigger for a couple of years already on the Huntdown game and are impressed with talent within the studio. Background and rationale Easy Trigger is a development studio founded in 2016, with headquarters located in Trollhättan, Sweden. The studio consists of 5 employees that have collaborated with Coffee Stain on the development and release of the critically acclaimed indie title Huntdown. Easy Trigger is led by co-founder and CEO Tommy Gustafsson, and co- founder and lead programmer Andreas Renberg. The company was wholly owned by the two co-founders who will remain in their current roles post-transaction. Through the acquisition, Coffee Stain onboards a talented team that will boost the development of 1st party IP within the group. Playing with Puppets: Foucauldian Power Relations in Bioshock and Borderlands 2
| Izabela Tomczak PLAYING WITH PUPPETS: FOUCAULDIAN POWER RELATIONS IN BIOSHOCK AND BORDERLANDS 2 Abstract The article investigates whether power/knowledge relations observed by Foucault in real life could be possibly applicable in the video game context. Two blockbuster titles, BioShock (2007) and Borderlands 2 (2009), are analysed to discuss the following aspects of Foucauldian theory: the existence of docile bodies, the creation of a dominant discourse of truth, and the maintenance of the created system. With regard to the creation of docile bod- ies, the perspective of two antagonists (Andrew Ryan and Handsome Jack) is centralised, and their role in creating a hierarchical system is presented. The Foucauldian rules of enclo- sure and rank, being crucial to the concept of docility, can be seen in the representation of the city of Rapture and the planet of Pandora. To develop the argument further, the rules connected to establishing and upholding the regime of truth, such as dissemination of knowledge, laws, monitoring and distribution of good, are analysed. TV series, YouTube videos and blogs are reshaping and re-evaluating the state of the contemporary society, which in turn leads to greater confusion in their interpretation. One of the flour- ishing genres that challenges traditional modes of analysis are videogames. ABSTRACT An exploration of how characters develop identity through language use in a video game’s narrative, specifically in video games that do not allow for players to make narrative-altering choices. The concept of literacies is used to create a critical framework through which to view video games themselves as a literacy, as well as to view them as a discourse. This thesis analyzes how dialogue is used to develop and showcase gender, sexuality, personality, moral identity in characters in and out of the player’s control, as well as how dialogue builds the narrative world in which these characters exist. This thesis includes two case studies, on the Borderlands video game series and the Halo video game series, approaching each series from a perspective that showcases how its unique world and characters are created through language. Each series has a specific facet to its narrative that is examined in depth; in the Borderlands series, the importance of storytelling to world-building and moral identity, and in the Halo series, the significance of speech itself as an act. -

Embracer Group Acquires Appeal Studios, KAIKO, Massive Miniteam and FRAME BREAK
Press release Karlstad, Sweden, 11 May 2021 Embracer Group acquires Appeal Studios, KAIKO, Massive Miniteam and FRAME BREAK Embracer Group AB (“Embracer”) through its subsidiaries THQ Nordic GmbH and Amplifier Game Invest AB have entered into four acquisition agreements to acquire 100% each of Appeal Studios S.A., KAIKO GmbH, Massive Miniteam GmbH and FRAME BREAK AB. In addition, THQ Nordic is today also announcing that it has founded Gate 21 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aggregated day one purchase price for all four acquisitions amounts to approximately SEK 71 million on a cash and debt free basis. THQ Nordic has made the following acquisitions: Appeal Studios SA: THQ Nordic GmbH has acquired Belgium-based- Appeal Studios S.A.– the original creators behind Outcast (1999). Appeals Studios was founded in 2018 and is currently engaging 55 employees. The team is currently developing an innovative Open-world sci-fi action adventure that has not been officially announced.
