The feast of the Blessed Trinity needs to be understood and celebrated as a prolongation of the mysteries of and as the solemn expression of our in this triune life of the Divine Persons, to which we have been given access by Baptism and by the won for us by Christ.

The feast of the Blessed Trinity was introduced in the ninth century and was only inserted in the general calendar of the church in the fourteenth century by Pope John XXII. But the cultus of the Trinity is of course, to be found throughout the liturgy. Constantly the church causes us to praise and adore the thrice-holy who has so shown His mercy towards us and has given us to share in His life.

The dogma of faith which forms the object of the feast of Holy Trinity is this: there is one God and in this one God there are three Divine Persons; the Father is God, the Son is God, the is God. Yet there are not three , but one, eternal, incomprehensible God! The Father is not more God than the Son, neither is the Son more God than the Holy Spirit. The Father is the first Divine Person; the Son is the second Divine Person, begotten from the nature of the Father from eternity; the Holy Spirit is the third Divine Person, proceeding from the Father and the Son. No mortal can fully fathom this sublime truth. Only in shall we properly understand what it means, in , to share as sons in the very life of God.

The feast of the Most Holy Trinity be regarded as the church’s gratitude over all the blessings of the Christmas and Easter seasons. For this mystery is a synthesis of Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, Ascension and Pentecost. Every Sunday is devoted to the honor of the Most Holy Trinity, that every Sunday is sanctified and consecrated to the triune God.

The mystery of the most Holy Trinity is a basic doctrine of faith in Christianity, understandable not with our heads but with our hearts. We believe in this Mystery because , who is God, taught it clearly, the evangelists recorded it, the Fathers of the Church tried to explain it and the Council of Nicaea and Constantinople defined it as a dogma of Christian faith.

Importance of Holy Trinity in Christian life: 1. All prayers in the church begin in the Name of the Holy trinity and end glorifying the Trinity. 2. All are administered in the name of the Holy Trinity. 3. Where Church bells ring thrice daily, they remind us to pray to the Holy Trinity. 4. We bless ourselves, and the priest blesses us, in the name of the Holy Trinity.

Let me conclude with the Trinitarian formula of blessing: the grace of Jesus Christ, the love of , and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. St. Martin de Porres, Pray for us! Fr. Lijo Kallarackal I want you to think back to the times in your life when you were really hurting or when you felt as if life was just too much to handle. We all have such moments and are not all dealt the same hand. Life can be hard for each of us and not just once in a while, but often. I know that when I think about the times in my life that caused me the most pain or the greatest amount of sorrow, there is a common thread that runs through all of those moments. Maybe the same thread runs through your most painful experiences, too. In each case, the times when I was hurting the most were the times when one of my relationships was suffering. Do you find that to be true in your life, too?

I don’t mean to suggest that we can’t suffer in other ways. Many different things can cause us anxiety and pain, not just wounded relationships. Yet, when my relationships are strong, it feels as if I can weather some pretty serious storms. But, if my relationships are weak or being tested, the rest of my life can be nearly perfect and I am still unhappy and unsatisfied. I guess you could say that even if I “have it all” in many areas of life, but don’t have loving and life-giving relationships, it sort of feels as if I don’t really have much of anything.

There is a very good reason why that is true. Strong relationships actually lie at the very core of our in God. We believe God is, in His very essence, encompassing the deepest and most profound sort of reality. The God we believe in – Father, Son, and Spirit is precisely who He is because of the relationship of love that exists between the three persons. God is not immovable, static and impenetrable. No, God is communion. God is dynamic. God is lover, beloved, and love itself.

If your crosses are heavy and if the cards you have been dealt make up a pretty bad hand, don’t despair. There is some level of peace that can be found amid the storms of life. But that peace will ultimately have less to do with the “fixing” of our problems than it will have to do with the strength of our relationships. If our relationships are in disarray or broken, if we don’t take the time to work on them or treasure them, it won’t matter much what the rest of our lives are like. We will still find life somewhat empty and without much meaning. But, if we continually find ways to love others and let them love us too, we will be able to bear much. We will never feel far from God. We will never feel that we are making this journey through life alone.

Father, Son and Spirit – relationships of love who show us who God is and who we are. May this profound truth help us see the importance of the relationships in our lives as spouses, children, parents, co-workers, and friends. As we struggle to work through the difficulties and challenges which come our way in this life, may we at the same time pay close attention to the ways in which we relate to others, knowing that when we love and receive love, we are profoundly close to the very heart of God.
