  • Pedestrians Analysis and Design for Taiwo Road Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria
CARD International Journal of Engineering and Emerging Scientific Discovery ISSN: 2536-7250 (Print): 2536-7269 (Online) Volume 2, Number 4, December 2017 http://www.casirmediapublishing.com Pedestrians Analysis and Design for Taiwo Road Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria Braimoh O. S. & Gana A. J. Department of Civil Engineering College of Science and Engineering Landmark University Omu-Aran, Kwara State Email: [email protected], [email protected] Corresponding Author: Gana A. J. ABSTRACT Designing for pedestrians is a research work carried out as a result of the inadequate availability of pedestrian facilities resulting to increased accidents and other environmental and human hazards resulting from intermodal competitions for spaces vis-à-vis Highway capacity. This has helped to consider the possibility of pedestrian facilities for transportation in Taiwo road. The presence of pedestrian in Taiwo road has been investigated and found to be 538 per hour. In this research, Pedestrian facilities were designed for the Ibrahim Taiwo road in Ilorin city which is 3900m distance (from Taiwo salee junction to the end of the road at General Hospital roundabout). The design was done by carrying out pedestrian count on the Sidewalk and Crosswalk for the road in two hours for three days. The Sidewalk designed is 2.0m while the distance between the crosswalk markings is 0.6m and the thickness of the zebra crossing line is 0.6mat 3800m, 3200m 2150m, 650m and 200m from the origin of the road with 3m width, the Island height is 0.15m, the height of the signs above the ground is 2.0m and the Bus shelters are located at 3800m and 650m from the origin.

  • Informal Microfinance and Economic Activities of Rural Dwellers in Kwara South Senatorial District of Nigeria
International Journal of Business and Social Science Vol. 2 No. 15; August 2011 INFORMAL MICROFINANCE AND ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES OF RURAL DWELLERS IN KWARA SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT OF NIGERIA IJAIYA, Muftau Adeniyi Department of Accounting and Finance University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria E-mail : [email protected], Phone: +2348036973561 Abstract Rural areas, like urban areas have increasing demand for credit because such credit reduces the impact of seasonality on incomes. However, formal financial institutions have maintained low presence in the rural areas. This has affected the rural dwellers’ access to deposit savings and credits that can improve their economic activities. This study examined the influence of informal microfinance on economic activities of rural dwellers in the selected rural areas of Kwara South Senatorial District. Using a multiple regression analysis, six hundred (600) questionnaire was administered on members of informal microfinance institution in the study area, the study found that fund provided as credit facilities for transaction purposes, funds for housing and combating diseases have significant influence on the economic activities of the rural areas. The study recommends group savings and group lending in order to increase savings and credits to the rural dwellers. Government should also provide improved infrastructural facilities that would enable rural dwellers have more access to their economic activities Key Words: Microfinance, Informal, Economic Activities, Rural, Kwara 1.0 Introduction Africa‟s development challenges go deeper than low income, falling trade shares, low savings and slow growth. They also include inequality and uneven access to productive resources, social exclusion and insecurity especially among the women (Pitamber, 2003). However, more specific concern is raised in Nigeria due to rural-urban disparities in income distribution, access to education and health care services, and prevalence of ethnic or cross-boundary conflicts.

  • Succession Under Esan Customary Law in Nigeria: Grounds for Disinheriting an Heir from Inheriting His Deceased Father’S Estate Under Esan Customary Law
www.ijird.com August, 2018 Vol 7 Issue 8 ISSN 2278 – 0211 (Online) Succession Under Esan Customary Law in Nigeria: Grounds for Disinheriting an Heir from Inheriting His Deceased Father’s Estate under Esan Customary Law Paul Okhaide Itua Senior Lecturer, Department of Commercial and Industrial Law, Ambrose Alli University, Nigeria Abstract: In Nigeria, there are three main ethnic / tribal groups; these are Hausa - Fulani, Igbo and Yoruba. Apart from these major ethnic groups, there are about 371 (three hundred and seventy-one) other ethnic groups with diverse languages and phonological structures, which are some time noticeable even within the same socio cultural setting. Majority of these ethnic groups share a lot of historical and deep cultural relationship between them as evidence mostly in the application of customary law that regulate their private life on one hand and the relationship that exist between them on the other hand. Apart from these rules of customary law, the common law and statutory law equally plays a major role in the regulation of these relationships. Some time these rules of customary law are subjected to certain test as prescribed by the common law and the statute in other to determine their validity and applicability. These regulatory mechanisms, also apply to the people that constitute Esan ethnic group. They presently occupy Edo Central Senatorial District consisting of five local government areas in Edo State of Nigeria. Historically they share cultural relationship with the Edos in the area of customary law, however with some noticeable differences in its application in certain areas. One of such area is succession.

Ethnicity is functional to political stability because it provides the basis for political socialization and for popular allegiance to political actors. It provides the framework within which patronage is institutionalized and related to traditional forms of welfare within a state which is itself unable to provide such benefits to its subjects.
