WHO’S THE ‘ROSS’?: fi nished the 2015 campaign with new career-highs in and after he went 10-12 with a 3.26 ERA (71 ER, 196.0 IP) and 212 strikeouts against 84 walks while limiting the opposition to a .237 batting average. • His total fi nished the season ranked 13th in the Majors, sixth in the National League and second on the team (Shields, 216). • Ross’ 212 strikeouts were a new career high, surpassing his previous best of 195 SO set in 2014…Ross was the second in franchise history to record 195+ strikeouts in consecutive seasons, joining who did so in three straight seasons from 2005-07. • He also posted a 9.73 strikeouts per nine innings ratio (212 strikeouts/196.0 IP), the second-best mark in franchise history by a starter, trailing only the 9.87 mark (189 SO/172.1 IP) set by during the 1994 season. • Ross’ 196.0 innings pitched in 2015 was one more than his previous record of 195.0 IP set in 2014…he was the fi rst Padres pitcher since Jake Peavy from 2005-07 to record 195.0+ in consecutive seasons (Peavy did so in three straight seasons). • Ross allowed just nine home runs in 196.0 IP, good for a 0.41 home runs per nine innings ratio, the third-best mark among qualifi ed Major League starters, trail- ing only Jake Arrieta (0.39) and WSH Gio Gonzalez (0.41)…it was also the seventh-best mark in franchise history and the best since Kevin Brown had a 0.28 HR/9 (8 HR, 257.0 IP) during the 1998 season. • Posted a 100.0-inning streak without allowing a from April 28 - July 29, the longest by a Major League pitcher in a single season (in terms of both starts and innings pitched) since Mets starter Sid Fernandez went 16 starts and 111.0 innings pitched during the 1992 season…was the third-longest in terms of innings pitched in franchise history, trailing only Dave Roberts (123.1 IP from 4/30-7/20 in 1971) and Padres Hall-of-Famer (107.1 IP from 7/3- 9/11 in 1978).

Tyson Ross 2015 212 Ian Kennedy 2014 207 BEING THE BULLDOG: James Shields threw 202.1 innings in 2015, making him the 69th pitcher in Padres franchise history to reach the 200.0+ innings pitched milestone and the fi rst since Ian Kennedy threw 201.0 innings in 2014. • Shields now has nine consecutive seasons with 200.0+ innings pitched, having reached the milestone every year since 2007…Shields is the only Major League pitcher with 200.0+ innings pitched each of the last nine seasons (Mark Buehrle had a 14 season streak of 200+ IP snapped this season). • His nine seasons with 200.0 innings pitched are the second-most among all active Major League pitchers, behind only Mark Buehrle (14 seasons). • Shields posted a 13-7 record and 3.91 ERA (88 ER, 202.1 IP) with 216 strikeouts against 81 walks while limiting the opposition to a .248 batting average over 33 starts… Shields started the 2015 season 7-0 through his fi rst 14 starts of the season (until June 14th), a new career-best streak to start a season…he was just the second pitcher in Padres history to start a season 7-0, with the only other to do so being , who began the 1985 season a franchise-best 11-0 in his fi rst 12 starts.

UPTO(W)N FUNK YOU UP: Justin Upton fi nished the 2015 season leading the Padres in both home runs (26) and stolen bases (19), making him one of three play- ers in franchise history to fi nish a season as the team leader in both homers and thefts, joining Reggie Sanders in 1999 (26 home runs, 36 stolen bases) and Dave Winfi eld in 1976 (13 home runs, 26 stolen bases)…Upton was the only player in Major League Baseball this season to lead his team in both home runs and stolen bases and the fi rst Major Leaguer since MIN Brian Dozier, MIL Carlos Gomez and LAA Mike Trout all did in 2014. • Upton fi nished the season with a .251/.336/.454 (136-for-542) line with 26 doubles, 26 home runs, 81 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 150 games for San Diego… he was one of three Major League players with his combination of home runs and stolen bases, joining BAL Manny Machado (35 HR, 20 SB) and ARI Paul Goldschmidt (33 HR, 21 SB). • Belted 15 home runs at Petco Park in 2015, tied with Will Venable in 2013 for the highest single-season total in ballpark history…all-time, owns a .282/.360/.519 (125-for-443) line with 25 home runs and 61 RBI in downtown San Diego, the fi fth-best batting average, the third-best on-base percentage and second-best in ballpark history among active players with at least 150 at-bats at Petco Park. • Among Padres players to have played at least 75% of their games in a single season in the outfi eld, Upton’s 26 home runs this season were the seventh-most by an outfi elder in team history and the most since Reggie Sanders also hit 26 homers during the 1999 season…even further, among Padres players to have played at least 75% of their games in a single season in left fi eld, Upton’s home run total is the third most in club history and the most since Greg Vaughn hit a team-record 50 home runs in 1998. • Upton hit .343 with six home runs, 23 RBI and nine stolen bases during the month of May, joining Ryan Klesko as the only player in Padres franchise history to hit six or more homers and steal nine or more bases in a single month during the season (Klesko also did so in May of 2001). • Justin Upton recorded his 600th career RBI with his single on August 21st, making him the 61st active player to reach that milestone...additionally, having reached the plateau at 27 years and 361 days old, he is one of seven active players to reach the 600 RBI mark before turning 28.

CINCINNATI KID: Upton made his third career All-Star Game appearance on July 14th in Cincinnati as he was named to the NL squad by Bruce Bochy as a ’s selection…he entered the game as a defensive replacement in right fi eld in the seventh inning. • Upton singled to left fi eld off Kansas City’s Wade Davis in his only plate appearance in the eighth inning and immediately stole second base…Upton was the 13th different Padres player to get a hit in an All-Star Game (20th time) and fi rst since Adrian Gonzalez did so in 2008. • Upton was the third player in franchise history, fourth time, to steal a base in an All-Star Game and the fi rst since Tony Gwynn did so in 1989…Gwynn also stole a base in 1984 and stole a base in 1981. • Upton joined Tony Gwynn in 1984 and 1989 as the only players in Padres franchise history to have both a hit and a in an All-Star Game. • Upton was the 10th outfi elder overall in Padres history to represent San Diego in the All-Star Game (also: Tony Gwynn – 15 time selection and once as hon- orary guest, Dave Winfi eld – four time selection for SD, Cito Gaston, , , Steve Finley, Greg Vaughn and Rondell White).

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE: Craig Kimbrel posted 39 saves in 43 opportunities, the fourth-most saves in the National League, trailing only PIT Mark Melancon (51), STL Trevor Rosenthal (48) and NYM Jeurys Familia (43)…also posted a 2.58 ERA (17 ER, 59.1 IP) as well as 87 strikeouts against 22 walks while holding the opposition to a .185 batting average. • Among National League relievers, Kimbrel’s 87 strikeouts were tied for the fourth-most, trailing only CIN Aroldis Chapman (116), MIL Will Smith (91) and STL Kevin Siegrist (90)…his .185 opponents batting average was seventh-best in the National League and 11th-best in the Majors. • Kimbrel posted a 13.20 strikeouts per nine innings ratio (87 SO/59.1 IP), the best mark in Padres franchise history by a . • Kimbrel secured his 200th career on June 8 vs. Atlanta in what was his 318th career game…with the save, Kimbrel became the quickest pitcher in Major League history to reach the 200 save plateau, 41 games faster that Jonathan Papelbon, who was the previous record holder with 200 saves in 359 career games…he was the 47th player in Major League history to reach the milestone. • Kimbrel, who turned 27 on May 28, is the second-youngest pitcher to ever record 200 saves, behind only Francisco Rodriguez, who reached 200 saves at 26 years and 239 days old…Huston Street is the next youngest pitcher to reach the 200 save plateau, having done so at 29 years and 52 days old. • Recorded at least one strikeout in 21 consecutive games from May 2 - June 26, tied for the second-longest streak by a reliever in team history, trailing only the 26 game streak by from July 14 - September 14, 1998. • From May 25th until the end of the season, posted a 4-1 record and 28 saves with a 1.44 ERA (7 ER, 43.2 IP) and 64 strikeouts against 17 walks while limiting the opposition to a .155 batting average. SAN DIEGO’S BEST “IPK”: Over his fi nal 22 starts of the season since the start of June, Ian Kennedy went 7-10 with a Strikeouts Post-ASB, Padres History 3.41 ERA (49 ER, 129.1 IP) and 137 strikeouts against 38 walks while limiting opponents to a .248 (122-for-491) batting average…posted a 9.53 strikeouts per nine innings in that time, the seventh-best mark in the NL. Player Season SO • Since the second half of the season began on July 17, Kennedy posted 98 strikeouts, tied for the fi fth-highest total in the Kevin Brown 1998 SD 135 NL and tied for the 10th-most in the Majors…his 98 punch-outs following the break are tied for the fi fth-most in franchise Jake Peavy 2007 SD 115 history after the “Mid-Summer Classic” (see chart). Jake Peavy 2004 SD 112 • Over a 12-start stretch from June 13 - August 21, Kennedy allowed at least one home run in each start, allowing 14 Clay Kirby 1971 SD 111 total in that stretch…according to ELIAS, the streak is the longest ever by a Padre pitcher in a single season (previous Ian Kennedy 2015 SD 98 nine-straight by in 2009 and in 1998). 1996 SD 98 • During that span he went 4-6 with a 2.63 ERA (21 ER, 72.0 IP) …per ELIAS, since earned runs were fi rst recorded in both leagues, Kennedy is the only Major League pitcher to have allowed a home run in 11-or-more consecu- tive games and maintain an ERA less than 3.00 in that time…only one other pitcher has had a streak of at least 10 consecutive starts with a homer allowed while posting an ERA under 3.00 during the streak: Roger Clemens for the in 1986 (2.64 ERA in 10-straight from 4/11-6/1), the year he won both his fi rst career Cy Young award and his fi rst and only MVP award.

HELL’S BELLS: The Padres posted a 62-0 record this season when leading after eight innings, one of two National League teams and one of three teams in the Majors to be undefeated when leading after the eighth inning joining the (81-0) and Nationals (74-0). • Since the start of 2014, the Padres are 125-1 when leading after eight innings…the club last lost when leading after eight innings on July 5 of last season when they dropped a 5-3 game to the Giants in 10 innings that they were leading 3-2 after eight…the Padres have won 93 consecutive games when leading after eight innings, the longest such streak in the National League (STATS, Inc). • Since the 2010 season, the Padres own a 396-10 record (.975) when leading after eight innings, the best record in MLB in that time.

ENSHRINED IN THE PADRES HALL OF FAME: On August 7th, the Padres honored and Garry Templeton as they were inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame during a special pregame, on-fi eld ceremony… the election was made in conjunction with the San Diego chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), local sports media and the San Diego Padres front offi ce…Santiago and Templeton are the 10th and 11th members to be inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame, joining , , , Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Randy Jones, , and Dave Winfi eld. • Santiago was the fi rst catcher inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame…the backstop made his Major League debut for San Diego in 1986 and was unanimously named National League Rookie of the Year in 1987, the fi rst in franchise history. • A fi ve-time National League All-Star, four with the Padres (1989-92), Santiago played seven of his fi rst 20 Major League seasons for San Diego, hitting .264 for San Diego with 124 doubles, 15 triples, 85 home runs and 375 RBI over 789 games from 1986-92…the Puerto Rico native also received four Louisville Silver Slugger Awards (1987-88, 1990-91) and three Rawlings Gold Gloves (1988-90) in his career, all with San Diego. …his career-best and franchise-record 34-game during his rookie season in 1987 still stands as the longest hitting streak in Major League history by a rookie as well as the longest ever by a catcher. • Santiago ranks among catching leaders in franchise history in the majority of offensive categories, including fi rst in home runs, triples and runs scored (308), second in RBI, games, hits, doubles and at-bats and third in walks (137)…his four starts behind the plate for the National League All-Star team are the second- most starting nods at the Mid-Summer Classic in franchise history behind only Tony Gwynn and his 12 starts…his three Gold Glove Awards and four Silver Slugger Awards are also the second-most in franchise history behind only Gwynn (fi ve Gold Gloves, seven Silver Sluggers). • Templeton, who played 10 of his 16 Major League seasons with San Diego from 1982-1991, was the fi rst inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame…the switch-hitter hit .252 with 195 doubles, 36 triples, 43 home runs and 427 RBI over 1,286 games for the Padres. • Templeton ranks second to Tony Gwynn among franchise leaders in several offensive categories, including games played, at-bats, hits and doubles and ranks fourth in triples, seventh in RBI and eighth in runs scored…he was named a National League All-Star for the Padres and team MVP in 1985 and earned a Louisville in 1984…over his 10 seasons in San Diego, he posted a .965 fi elding percentage at shortstop, the best fi elding percentage in franchise history by a shortstop.

OH MY!: Padres and Fox Sports San Diego play-by-play man Dick Enberg was the recipient of the 2015 Ford C. Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum for excellence in broadcasting. • Enberg was with the award during the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Hall-of-Fame weekend on July 25 and is now one of two individuals to have earned recognition with each of the Baseball, Football (Rozelle Award) and Basketball Halls of Fame (Gowdy Award) (Curt Gowdy also did so). • Enberg also has been inducted into the National Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame and the National Sportscaster and Sportswriters Hall of Fame as well as the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame. • Enberg announced in September that he will retire following the 2016 season.

MILES AND MILES OF HEART: The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) named Derek Norris the Padres recipient of the 2015 Heart & Hustle Award… the award honors active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and tradition of the game. The Heart & Hustle Award is also the only award in Major League Baseball that is voted on by former players. • The MLBPAA formed 30 committees, comprised of Alumni players with established relationships to each tea…as the season draws to a close, fans, all Alumni and active players will vote to select the fi nal winner from the 30 team winners. • The fi nal winner will be announced Nov. 10, 2015, at the 16th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner in New York City…this event is the primary fundraiser for the series of free Legends for Youth baseball clinics…these clinics impact more than 15,000 children each year at 120 clinics, allowing them the unique opportunity to interact with and learn from players who have left a lasting impact on the game of baseball.

WEATHER REPORT: The Padres experienced their fi rst home game postponement since the 2006 season on July 19 vs. Colorado after the game was postponed due to playing conditions and continued inclement weather in the forecast…the game was later played on September 10th…the Friars also had a rain delay at Petco Park on May 14th vs. Washington (1 hour, 56 minutes), the first at Petco Park since April 8, 2011. • July 19th’s rainout was just the second in Petco Park history and the fi rst since April 4, 2006, a span of 820 games (nine years, three months and 15 days or 3,393 days). • Overall, the postponement was the 17th rainout in San Diego’s history and just the third since the 1990 season (April 4, 2006, and May 12, 1998)…it was the fi rst rain incident (postponement/suspension/delay) during the month of July in San Diego’s baseball history. • The delay, due to the postponement, is not an offi cial rain delay…however, the delay did last two hours and thirty minutes before it was postponed and would have been the second offi cial rain delay at Petco Park this season (May 14 vs. Washington). • There were 25 games at Petco Park between the two rain incidents at Petco Park this season…prior to this short stretch, there had been 337 games between rain delays in downtown San Diego.

SO HOT IN SO CAL: September 10th’s fi rst pitch temperature at Petco Park of 93 degrees was the warmest in ballpark history and the hottest game played in San Diego since another 93 degree day on August 30, 1998 at Qualcomm Stadium. • September 9th’s game against Colorado was 89 degrees, the warmest night game temperature in Petco Park history. WALK IT OFF: The Padres recorded four walk-off victories this season, three of which occurred during the month of September…Derek Norris recorded a game- ending on May 29 vs. Pittsburgh, logged a walk-off fi elder’s choice on September 8 vs. Colorado, Jedd Gyorko had a game-ending single on September 23 vs. San Francisco and Alexi Amarista had a walk-off single on September 24 vs. San Francisco. • Since Petco Park opened in 2004, the Padres have recorded 99 walk-off wins, tied for the second-highest total in baseball in that time, trailing only the , who have won in walk-off fashion 104 times in that span.

THE SALAMI IS GRAND: Derek Norris tallied a career-high and a Padres season-high fi ve hits in fi ve plate appearances on July 30 at New York, logging four singles and a grand slam in the seventh inning…Norris was the fi rst player in Padres franchise history to record fi ve hits and a grand slam in a single game, the fi rst Major Leaguer to do so since NYY Russell Martin on August 25, 2011 at OAK and the fi rst NL player to do so since SF Tsuyoshi Shinjo on July 2, 2002 at Colorado. • Before Norris, the only other Major League players over the last 40 seasons to go 5-for-5 or better with a grand slam were (1977), Toby Harrah (1986), Carlos Delgado (1998), Torii Hunter (2005) and Russell Martin (2011)…prior to Norris, the last NL player to go 5-for-5 or better with a grand slam was Steve Garvey on August 28, 1977 vs. STL (STATS, Inc). • The slam was the Padres’ fi fth of the season, their highest total since also hitting fi ve during the 2010 season…fi ve grand slams ranks tied as the second-highest total in the National League, trailing only the Giants, who led the Majors with nine home runs with the bases loaded.

THE ‘GRAND’ FINALE: Derek Norris belted a two-out, walk-off grand slam in the ninth inning on May 29 vs. Pittsburgh, the Friars fi rst walk-off victory of the sea- son…it was the sixth walk-off grand slam in Padres franchise history and the fi rst since Adrian Gonzalez hit an opposite fi eld walk-off slam against the Mets in the 11th inning on June 2, 2010… other players to accomplish this feat were on August 7, 2009, Rondell White on June 20, 2003, Steve Finley on April 10, 1998 and Bip Roberts on May 20, 1995. • Having also struck out four times in the contest, Derek Norris was the fi rst player in Major League history to strike out four times in a game before hitting a walk-off grand slam…prior to Norris, the last player to strike out four or more times and hit a grand slam in the same game was Mark Teixeira on May 25, 2003. • Norris was the fi rst catcher to hit a walk off grand slam since Jeff Mathis hit a walk-off grand slam for the Marlins on June 30, 2013 vs. the Padres.
